Forerunner are extinct, they have not lived to see the Flood in action therefore they don't know if they are dangerous or not.

who said there was flood on the ring in halo 2? The ring is probably just an amplifier for instalation4 (halo). Maybe the new rings have no life.

The purpose of Halo is to contain and study the flood. There is no proof that instalation4 was any different than instalation3 instalation2 or instalation1. We must assume that every Halo contains flood.

Guilty Spark says that the Halo that was destroyed was "installation 04". That implies that there are at least four installations.

Reply to #1
Because The Forerunners placed them on an installation that was sure to wipe them out (indirectly) if they were to break free.

In that way, they could study this magnificent biological weapon and still be able to stop the experiment if it went out of control.

You could then ask yourselves why they chose to leave Halo 04. Maybe your questions will be answered this fall, maybe not :(

To find a cure for the Flood disease; because that's all the flood really is, a virus or illness.

Guilty Spark says in a cut scene"this intalation has an efective reach of ...lightyears but once the OTHERS follow suit..."Plus they said there would be another ring in Halo 2.

Installation 04 was built to study and contain the Flood, any Flood that escaped and was left in space with no air, water or food and that might land on another Installation or Planet would just get burned up in the Atmosphere. They don't need 2 Installations to study and contain the Flood therefore there is no more Flood.

I don't. I think that the humans are the Forerunner.

The flood doesn’t need to escape, they are a virus, they can spread. We must assume that the Forerunner saw the flood as a very real threat, so much so that they made their Halo rings capable of destroying the universe just to stop them. Why would you just have one weapon to stop the flood? That would mean suicide, if that one installation was somehow compromised, the universe would fall to the flood infection.

Even if the Forerunners are Humans, the actual race known as the Forerunners are extinct. By the way I really don't think the Forerunners are Humans. I think they are their own race that got extinct like the years they lived in. They never evolved into anything they simply just died.

I don't recall reading anywhere that they are extinct, just on hiatus.

They have survived for over 100,000 years on Halo, with no food, so maybe they can survive in vacuum. Perhaps the carrier forms are able to keep the infection forms inside themselves alive somehow, maybe hardening their skin to form a protective shell. Then a Covie search and rescue team might accidently pick them up and give them a ride somewhere.

No matter what they need or don't need, once Installation 04 was blown up, wherever the Flood went they would die.

But it is possible for them to fly into other planets, because in the end movie, a bunch of pieces of Halo flew in diferent directions. One could land on a planet or something... wait a minute... nvm... teh piece would prolly just destroy the planet or something... forget i said anything...
