If I was to buy a 12 month Xbox Live Starter kit does that mean 12 free months of Xbox Live or do I have to pay for those 12 months?

You can get 2 months free or you can get the 70 dollar starter kit and it has a 12 month card and you have you pay 6.00$ or somthing like that a month!

The only real advantage of the 12 month kit is a copy of Mech Assault and a slight discount for a longer membership. I say get the 3 month subscription kit instead, unless your a big Mech Assualt fan or whatever.

And a free headset along with not having to pay for a year. Plus a game comes along with it. Actually, haven't they started bundling Crimson Skies with the starter kits now instead of MechAssault?

I'd recommend a 12 month kit. That's a year of not being billed. You'd still need to enter your credit card info, though. Premium content downloads will still cost you, as will games that you must pay to play- Phantasy Star Online, for instance.

Edit:
You know what I find funny?
