Holy -blam!-!!!

Damn... that is a lot of stuff... I take it you would know what is a classic and what is not. Well... tell me this, do you think that Halo and Halo 2 will be known as classics in the future?

(I certainly do)

Wait a second, you don't own a Xbox? NVM... I missed it, you have Halo one... nice...

Anyways, if there is going to be a second age of gaming, I'm fairly certain it will come from Nintendo.

I think Nintendo is dead or dying. Their systems are aimed for the younger audience, also the President of Nintendo said recently, and I quote; "Videogamers are not into online gaming." He went on further saying that online gaming is a trend which people are not going to buy into. This means that the next generation Nintendo machine might not have internet capability. I prefer First Person Shooters as opposed to RPG's. That is why im on this forum right now as opposed to Playstation or Nintendo forums.

There are no irrelevant quotes of historical figures here. Neither will you find any links, chain posts, memes, clan advertisements, self-promotions, or the tiniest of ASCII pictures.

So go away.

How will it come from Nintendo if they still say it isn't time for online console gaming? Explain that.

Edit: Right now, it is my belief that Nintendo is behind in the evolutionary chain. Times change, and because Nintendo was the greatest in the past, doesn't mean it will remain. Look at Sega as an example.

You must learn to see beyond the hardware. The hardware of today will be outdated in another few years, but good games and genres do not die so easily. If Nintendo is finally out of steam (which it may be), then those of us who enjoyed their classics, will see no second Golden Age of gaming.

Ya, I already mentioned that. And I agree, for FPS's... Playstation and Nintendo can hardly keep up. When was the last time that Nintendo made a decent FPS, Perfect Dark?

FPS are all about PC and Xbox. How I see it, the other two cannot even compete. And apperantely, Xbox is started on the racing and RPG area too...

I totally agree, gamning isn't nearly as good as it used to be, which is why I think I like Halo so much, because it is the only truly great game thats come out in years. There are good games, but there are games better than good, games that are now too few and far between. Halo is the best game to have come out since the days of N64. Thats all my opinion, of course.

You people do not EVEN want to get me started.

I do, I do!!! (btw... whose side are you taking, the "Golden Age is started" or the "Golden Age has ended?)

Either way... I do!!!

The Atari Age 1976 - 1983 The First Great Age Everyone got into games during this time - everything was original and fun because there was nothing else it could be.

The Golden Age - 1985-1993 Also the Nintendo Age. This is the most innovative era ever in gaming. And Many Original games during this period from which games are still judged today.

The current age is good - but is NOTHING compared to the Golden Age -- More people were waiting to get Super Mario 3 then Halo 2 - ;)

Thats why new games are created. Oh no! The Matrix and Lord of the Rings and Star Wars are coming to a close! Is this the end of good movies?! No. Good movies (and good videogames) will be created. Just like Halo or Final Fantasy. They had to begin as something. In 5 years there will be other great games that we could not believe we lived without.

Actually I have a few XBoxes -- and I believe that Halo will be considered a classic. Halo 2 will be considered better - but Halo will hold a crown - I'm almost certain.

My friends and enemies, we all share a liking for halo, and games nowaday, but nothing is like it was those many years ago...

Halo is an amazing game, and halo 2 could just be the best game of all time, but are there that many others?

Halo 2

Half-life 2

Doom 3

Fable

Ninja Gaiden

The golden age is gone, the diamond age is here.

Also, Microsoft owns Rare, which they bought from Nintendo. Rare made lots of great N64 games...Goldeneye...Perfect Dark...Banjo & Kazooie...Donkey Kong 64...etc. I think that we are going to see alot more Nintend-esque games in the future. Don't believe me? Look at games such as Kameo by Rare and Fable. Fable reminds me of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Diamond Age?? Hardly -- the only game on that list that can truly be considered innovative is Fable, and that one not by much -- They are undoubtedly good games - but not destined to be classics -- and Doom 3 already is getting dissapointing fanfare...

I know what you mean. Back in my commodore days, sega days, nes days, snes days etc, i can barely remember a bad game, every game a played was an instant great fun classic! No-a-days a good game comes once in a blue moon.

New games and good games will always be here and there, but to say that such rarities can alone rival the Golden Age is fallacy.

But how I see it, it is just that we have higher expectations due to better technology and the such. Games could be much easily created then because they were expected to be simple.

I just think that the platformer age is gone, and the FPS age has come. You cannot deny it, now is the "diamond" age of the FPS.

I also feel nintendos priorities need to get straightened out. Their statements saying online is a fad are just was out in left field. They havent realised yet the crowd buying the most software is us the older crowd that USED to play mario games. If i was nintendo i would have their main franchises but go with them in different directions. Mario sunshine was terrible i watched my ex gf play that and it pissed me off.lol Their games anymore are just rehashes with exception of metroid and zelda those are both still pretty cutting edge. And to the dude stating the n64 was the start of better games i think you need to wake up. The n64 had mario 64,goldeneye,perfect dark, legend of zelda. Thats all the decent games they made on that system. Nintendo in their desire to go the opposite direction of the other companies stuck to cartridge which even at that time was out of date. I mean they cost more to make then they had to initially charge more to buy them. They have crappy sound and very limited storage. Notice with the gamecube they made a step not a leap and made the mini cds. All i am saying is nintendo needs to start supplying more mature games also. peace

And herin lies the problem -- With the few games that they spend the time on today the stock is dropping. Unfortunately a few games can't save an "Age".
For every game like Halo 2 or Fable, there are 10 like Simpsons: Hit and Run and Kakuto Chojin.

thats all opinion. Halo 2 is innovative, sure it has similar ELEMENTS that other games have JUST AS MARIO 3 DID. Its just that both of these games did what other games couldn't do. You mentioned Fable, but I bet thats the game you know least about!

And I must say, the last couple of years, games have been lame with some few exceptions. But that is just how it works, one year the games will be excellent, another they will suck. There are only a certain number of ideas and good ideas are not found easily.

But every year the bar is raised by games. While I agree that the quality of game plots are dropping...where are the days of good old Final Fantasy/Halo and Zelda and Mario etc.? But now if you would take N64 games and have them rated, they'd get really bad ratings because the graphics wouldnt be up to par, the sound wouldn't be good, and how the heck could I hold that N64 controller when i was 13???
