Interesting update. Not sure what I think about the rank cap not being lifted yet; I'd like to see the new ranks in the game, but I really don't care about ranking up that much either.
Also super stoked that Infection is getting its own playlist. Can't wait to see what the MLG and Grifball organizations come up with this time for Reach.

I cringed when you said it you'd bet the cap will be lifted in a month or two, I was hoping for a week or 2 (3 max) from now.

I could care less about the cap. I'm enjoying the game and besides, you keep earning credits when you hit it anyway.

I would, however, like to know HOW the cap will be raised. I wouldn't mind working towards that already.

Next week, fingers crossed :)

Raven
I am ACRaven. I play stuff. That is all.

Useful Stuff: Skull Guide, Forum Rules, Armor Gen.

I am one of the few and proud to have the Monument Achievement. I can share some of what I know that I think could help.

1. DMR vs Needle Rifle: Though these two weapons are very similar, they do have their differences. One of these is the fact that the Covies hate one of them with a passion: The Needle Rifle. They will dodge those pink shots over and over again, however they will take the DMR in the face. That being said, I would suggest the DMR over the Needle Rifle in many circumstances.

But there will be those times that the DMR is nowhere to be found, and nothing more than a Needle Rifle can be found. This can be frustrating, but overall kills can still be obtained if done with care. For one, take out the lesser enemies before going for the big boys (Grunts over Elites; Jackals over Brutes). Headshots are recommended for most of these enemies. In fact, here's how I would shoot each:

Grunts: Headshot
Jackals: Headshot
Skirmishers: Headshot
Brutes: Headshot (needle weapons are very effective on them no matter where they are shot, though)
Drones: Headshot
Elites: Take their shields out, then headshot
Hunters: Better get a new weapon :p But if it is necessary the neck and back areas are effective

Just remember: Enemies will try to dodge your shots, so be patient and take aim.

2. Good weapon combos: The key to any good run is to have good weapon combos. Here is what I believe would be good for awesome runs:

Primary

DMR
Needle Rifle
Sniper Rifle
Magnum
Plasma Pistol

Secondary

DMR
Needle Rifle
Sniper Rifle
Magnum
Plasma Pistol
Fuel Rod
Plasma Launcher
Rocket Launcher
Needler
Assault Rifle
Shotgun
Focus Rifle
Spartan Laser
Target Locator

Note: You can't have two of the same named weapon, so use your brain when it comes to this.

Having two of the suggested primary weapons is okay as well. The reason I listed the primary weapons was due to the fact that I believe a player should always have at least one of the primary weapons, whereas the secondary weapons have a bit more options for the player to use. But when it comes down to it use what is available.

3. There is no shame in running: Sometimes a player has exhausted all ammo during a level, and when they reach a point that is going to be a large battle there is very little hope of winning in a battle. This is when the option of going around the enemies may be needed. During some parts of the game, players can simply go past a group of enemies rather than have to fight them. Just sneak around (crotch plus walking) and see if the coast is clear. It can work, but remember this option is not always available.

Another version of this is to make a mad dash for where it is that the player is going. Instead of sneaking, running can be a better option (and can be easier if the player has the Sprint ability). Again, this option is not always available.

Heck, I would suggest this even if the player has full ammo. Why? To save ammo (and possibly a few bruises) for a battle that is required and not waste it on an unnecessary battle that can be avoided is why.

4. Snipe: Literally, it is a wise idea to just pick off enemies from a distance than rush in like a Rambo-wannabe. It will take time, but at least a player won't put themselves in a position that they cannot get themselves out of due to being trapped.

5. Teh Dropshieldz: The Dropshield is one of the greatest AA's in the game for campaign. It will save players a lot of frustration of not having access to a health pack that are in need of one. Other than that Jetpack and Sprint should be used.

6. One at a time: There will be times when there are more than just one uber enemy waiting to take out the player as a squad. This calls for some "divide and conquer" strategy. The trick is to lure one enemy away from the others, or position them to make it easier to pick'em off one by one. Just make sure to use the environment to the player's advantage. Sneak when need be; run if more than one takes notice.

I would refer to the weapon combos I have listed to see what would be a good idea to use, though the player will have to make their own decisions on that due to the infinite amount of situations that can occur when doing this.

I hope that helps, and hopefully others will cover what I have not. And of course, if one has already posted what I have, please don't feel threatened that I too have posted the same info. Think of it as reassurance that the tip must have worked if two or more users have posted it :)

Solo Legendary Tip:
Could be considered cheap, but exploit vehicles as much as possible. Grenade that revenant over that barrier, use Kat as a ramp over this barrier, push ghost through that hallway, etc. Makes some areas much, much easier.

Also,
Specifically for last level, at the end when you're defending the lab, use a grenade launcher to drop a banshee and jack it.

[Edit]
And assassinate sleeping grunts, just for funzies.

-Delta0Medusa-

Solid update.

  • 10.08.2010 5:20 PM PDT

I Finished the Campaign on Legendary on Solo about a week after the game came out.

The main tips I can give is:
The noob combo works marvels on Elites an overcharged Plasma pistol follow by a dmr shot.

Also keep you distance you will be eaten alive if you try to take the fight up close.

Also learn you enemy's week spots i.e. head shots in most cases the bottom left of a Jackal shield so you can hit them then get a head shot. Also Brute super combine on three shots from the needle rifle which makes 3 shots to the body more effect at taking them down than 3 to the head.

On Long night of solice when storming the Bridge I found the best way to do it was to use sprint to get up close behind as may Elites as possible and assassinate them you can generally kill about 3 or 4 before they realise what your up to and make sure to priorities the most powerful first.

On the Package when you have to hold out against the phantoms at the end use a grenade launcher to emp a banshee and jack it. You can use this to get out of harms way and allow the A.I to take the brunt of the assault while you strafe.

Also use the A.I. to you advantage noble team is invincible so allow them to take the damage while you hang back.

On Nightfall take the invisibility right at the beginning of the level this will help you get into position to snipe without the enemy noticing.

I hope that this is of some value to anyone looking to get the achievement. PS always go for head shots only use automatic weapons when nothing else is available.

Happy hunting

I completed the Legendary solo run and it taught me to be methodical about my actions, Plasma pistol methodical. Especially with learning where enemies patrol and will pop up.
It also spurred me to get out my Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3 and ODST and doing them all legendary solo :D

If you want to complain about the cap, PunkPirateAFO, earn your Lt. Col. without repeating the same section of ONI Sword Base to kill 5928 campaign enemies with heavy weapons. I seriously doubt that any of your friends earned their Lt. Col.'s without boosting either.

Even if I hadnt FARMED those few campaign commendations, the fact of the matter is I would be at the cap anyways. I dont see why so many of you insist on believing that the ONI thing gets you anywhere but maybe a grade and a half.

Im sure playing 1k+ games has nothing to do with reaching that level cap. No, thats just silly.

1-2 months before the level cap gets raised!? In my opinion there shouldn't be a level cap in ANY game. If you play the game more than somebody you should not be held back so everyone else can "catch up".

Going out with a fail.
Definitely the most disappointed I've been in Bungie ever.
"Punish" your most loyal and hardcore players.

Maybe you should stop spitting the word 'noble' into your projects.

Freedom has two parts: potential and resolution; as metaphors have two parts : form and interpretation; of course, the two are intertwined. Metaphor lines the road to freedom, as symbols and words are the bricks and mortar of meaning. Freedom being the briocoleus, the mason.

What i found most helpful was to use the drop shield frequently, stick near corners and doorways in case you need to strafe away from enemy fire, and also noob combo is still your best friend, use it when nothing else works.

so is bungie just -blam!- blind or stupid. i wanna say both! these game modes suck and so do you. also -blam!- you on the cap lock too

Legendary on Reach did seem more difficult than any other Halo game. It was a lot of fun though.

  • 10.08.2010 6:05 PM PDT

As far a solo legendary goes, just take your time. Let your fellow spartans do some work while you hold back and assess the situation. Look for helpful weapons near dead unsc and covenant soldiers. Don't underestimate the smaller weapons like the spiker or plasma pistol. Kill as many lower-class covenant as you can first. An elite with no backup is much easier to take down.

  • 10.08.2010 6:05 PM PDT

woooh top 1% in ranks and only 5% of ppl who beat the campain solo

and the jumping off the cliff to kill the elite *correctly* was more of a pain then the solo campain

-tip on lvling up quick is daily/weekly challenges help alot
-tip on solo take it slow keep moving and keep hidding, take out the little guys from far and keep your distance
-tip on the "cliff jump" achievement i assassinated the elite on every difficulty a thousand times like every one else. the way i FINALLY got it (is on my fileshare) i noticed a little ledge sticking out behind the big bolger on the right side well i jumped from there 2nd time i finally got it.

So about the Forge Commmunity Maps...when they're being considered for matchmaking, what exactly is being considered?

I made a rather tits Millenium Falcon in forge world along with other goodies thrown in there that make it a fun map to play and not just something to look at.

Anywho, I was just wondering how to pimp that mother out to the masses.

  • 10.08.2010 6:13 PM PDT

I legged out Legendary Solo on my second play-through. Best advice is to keep your wits about you, use lots of cover, use a variety of weapons and grind, grind, grind. Don't wimp out, you got a job to do.

Also let friendlies do some of the legwork. You have to remember that even though this is in every manner a HALO game, there are other Spartans. Use them.

Good Hunting.
