I am one of the few and proud to have the Monument Achievement. I can share some of what I know that I think could help.
1. DMR vs Needle Rifle: Though these two weapons are very similar, they do have their differences. One of these is the fact that the Covies hate one of them with a passion: The Needle Rifle. They will dodge those pink shots over and over again, however they will take the DMR in the face. That being said, I would suggest the DMR over the Needle Rifle in many circumstances.
But there will be those times that the DMR is nowhere to be found, and nothing more than a Needle Rifle can be found. This can be frustrating, but overall kills can still be obtained if done with care. For one, take out the lesser enemies before going for the big boys (Grunts over Elites; Jackals over Brutes). Headshots are recommended for most of these enemies. In fact, here's how I would shoot each:
Grunts: Headshot
Jackals: Headshot
Skirmishers: Headshot
Brutes: Headshot (needle weapons are very effective on them no matter where they are shot, though)
Drones: Headshot
Elites: Take their shields out, then headshot
Hunters: Better get a new weapon :p But if it is necessary the neck and back areas are effective
Just remember: Enemies will try to dodge your shots, so be patient and take aim.
2. Good weapon combos: The key to any good run is to have good weapon combos. Here is what I believe would be good for awesome runs:
Primary
DMR
Needle Rifle
Sniper Rifle
Magnum
Plasma Pistol
Secondary
DMR
Needle Rifle
Sniper Rifle
Magnum
Plasma Pistol
Fuel Rod
Plasma Launcher
Rocket Launcher
Needler
Assault Rifle
Shotgun
Focus Rifle
Spartan Laser
Target Locator
Note: You can't have two of the same named weapon, so use your brain when it comes to this.
Having two of the suggested primary weapons is okay as well. The reason I listed the primary weapons was due to the fact that I believe a player should always have at least one of the primary weapons, whereas the secondary weapons have a bit more options for the player to use. But when it comes down to it use what is available.
3. There is no shame in running: Sometimes a player has exhausted all ammo during a level, and when they reach a point that is going to be a large battle there is very little hope of winning in a battle. This is when the option of going around the enemies may be needed. During some parts of the game, players can simply go past a group of enemies rather than have to fight them. Just sneak around (crotch plus walking) and see if the coast is clear. It can work, but remember this option is not always available.
Another version of this is to make a mad dash for where it is that the player is going. Instead of sneaking, running can be a better option (and can be easier if the player has the Sprint ability). Again, this option is not always available.
Heck, I would suggest this even if the player has full ammo. Why? To save ammo (and possibly a few bruises) for a battle that is required and not waste it on an unnecessary battle that can be avoided is why.
4. Snipe: Literally, it is a wise idea to just pick off enemies from a distance than rush in like a Rambo-wannabe. It will take time, but at least a player won't put themselves in a position that they cannot get themselves out of due to being trapped.
5. Teh Dropshieldz: The Dropshield is one of the greatest AA's in the game for campaign. It will save players a lot of frustration of not having access to a health pack that are in need of one. Other than that Jetpack and Sprint should be used.
6. One at a time: There will be times when there are more than just one uber enemy waiting to take out the player as a squad. This calls for some "divide and conquer" strategy. The trick is to lure one enemy away from the others, or position them to make it easier to pick'em off one by one. Just make sure to use the environment to the player's advantage. Sneak when need be; run if more than one takes notice.
I would refer to the weapon combos I have listed to see what would be a good idea to use, though the player will have to make their own decisions on that due to the infinite amount of situations that can occur when doing this.
I hope that helps, and hopefully others will cover what I have not. And of course, if one has already posted what I have, please don't feel threatened that I too have posted the same info. Think of it as reassurance that the tip must have worked if two or more users have posted it :)
