I'm actually writing a Legendary Campaign Walkthrough for the MJOLNIR Battle Tactics Strategy Guide. Unfortunately, I forgot to save videos of the first few levels, so I have to redo them. The jetpack video was pretty epic too.

I beat the campaign during the first two days on Legendary, (I figured out it prepares you for Multiplayer online play and gets you used to the controls faster then just jumping in). I also as of two days ago got all the achievments which yes means I hit Lt. Colonel I have a lot of time to play but I'm also pretty good to. Anyways mainly what I'm doing now is buying up the armory and finishing commedations. A big helpful tip for matchmaking, mess with your look sensitivity and find out which one helps you aim best for each playlist. For Swat I've been playing from 6-8 and for Slayer I've been using 6 and sometimes 7. The better you aim the quicker the body count goes up guys, nade spamming just isn't cutting it anymore sorry.

Shade-0117, out.

You asked for some solo Legendary play-through tips in the weekly update? Here's some that my friend, Cyrax002, and I have come up with. First off, we beat the game co-op Legendary system-link the first night it came out (With our Legendary Editions FTW =-D), then about 4 days later I got A Monument To All Your Sins, the same day Cyrax did. On Co-Op, we found it was very useful for one person to be a suicidal maniac and run in Assault Rifle blazing, while the second person sat back and picked off long range targets with the DMR spawning the maniac when he died (Quite often). On Solo you obviously can't do this, what I found worked was sitting back with a DMR (Or another long range weapon; Sniper, Needle Rifle, Magnum) and slowly picking away all the big targets that present themselves, then move to smaller and smaller enemies. Patience is a virtue. It is also a good idea to make mental notes of when you pass different ammo racks, that way you can always run back and get more (Particular moment that pops into my mind is the rack of DMR's on the ship that is in the multiplayer map "Boneyard" during "The Pillar of Autumn" mission, head up the stairs on the left, then act like you're gonna run straight to the catwalk to get into the facility proper, should be a rack full of DMR's, I think I used the whole thing). Another good idea is to (When the mission permits) let Noble Team do most of the work for you, cause, ya know, they can't die =-D. One last tip I have is to take note of 'Easter Eggs', like on the last mission, where you have to hold the landing pad for Cpt. Keyes, if you run behind the building and smack the wall an ammo rack FULL of DMR's falls out. I didn't know this when I did my playthrough and it made killing the Zealots when you go to get on the MAC gun very... lets just say I died and cursed alot due to the lack of ammo laying around. Cyrax's tips for a solo Legendary play-through are similar to mine, he took it slow and tried not to rush enemies. Also, conserve ammo, don't shoot at what you cannot hit. And don't waste Sniper ammo on Grunts.

Give me a holler if you want more specific tips for specific parts of the campaign, I'd be more than willing to replay through a mission(s) to find the best ways to get past them. Always been more into single player, see you on Firefight.

Yay I am in the 5% of people who beat Legendary alone! As for a tip use ranged weapons and keep your team alive even those marines. Give them some heavy weapons(they get unlimited ammo).
Oh and almost always have a plasma pistol for elites and needler for brutes and or needle rifle. Hunters are difficult but needler and neddle rifle helps, get those supercombine kills.

  • 10.08.2010 6:44 PM PDT

My Best Bungie moment: finally beating all the Halo games on solo legendary.
My Worst Bungie moment: not seeing giant stuffie grunts in the Bungie store.

I'm still working through my legendary play through, I didn't think it was much harder. Compared to some of Halo 1 or 2 it is a cakewalk. I'm just taking it slow, one level every few days.

No blame required for Stosh, that last video was sick.

ULLAL!

Have 1000/1000 gamerscore. Worst part of Legendary for me was on the last level where you have to face off against Hunters/Jackals. Emile got knocked off the map so I didnt even have a distraction to help me out. Must have died 15 times before I got by it.

What percentage of the population have 1000/1000 GS? If 5% have Solo Legendary, and 1% have Make it Rain, how rare is it to have both?

I earned my "A monument to all your sins" achievement.

All i can say to all those who dare to take this journey alone, becarefull even when you cleared your path, will be camos elites awaiting for you to low your guard or hidden grunts ready to stick you a grenade on your back.

Don't mistake my kindness for something else

edit: well at least someone read my ramblings but they were intended for the fine folks at bungie. But since you consider yourself such a hardcore fan, why don't you do your part and tell bungie what you like or don't like about their game and what they are doing to it/with it.

My original comments follow, reposted by my biggest fan.

Oh and if you want some advice on getting through on Legendary alone, all I can offer is- don't rush in. Stay back, close to something you can step behind to avoid enemy fire. Try to always have a plasma pistol nearby, if not as one of you weapons, at least on the ground near you to pick up and use on elites. Use grenades to finsh off enemys or to take out a group of grunts so you can save ammo for the tougher enemies. There are lots of vids on youtube but it's best for you to form your own playstyle while trying to play as conservative as possible. Don't rush in, take a little at a time and try to single out which enemy you are going to take out before you jump in the frey. Just take it slow.

So more lies and more b.s.

Starting to expect it now.

So no level cap removal for another 2 months? This is how you repay us hardcore fans? I bet I could start a new gt and make it to the level cap before you lift it. All the Don can say is that he is really disappointed in you and that he may not stay loyal to the company he helped make rich. You basically told us that casual gamers mean more to you than the hardcore fans do that made your campany rich with our money. Disagree? How many of your casual player buy 3 or 4 copies of each of your games? How many casual gamers buy all of the books or figures? How many casual gamers play this game every day for hours on end? NONE! Yet we true fans have to wait on them to get their levels up before you let those of us that have been true and loyal to you wait? Not only is it unfair but I hope you realize based on the data you have that the masses aren't flocking to this game and about a third of your base hates this game and prefers Halo 3 to this. I hope you also realize that most of the people with those low levels won't be back to get them any higher. Don't believe me? Just go browse the forums. I still love you guys but as of late I hate what you are doing. And I'm tired of the lies. Acoording to this last lie filled update, I am the greatest Halo player that ever lived because that is the only explanation for the people you put on my team if what you said about the true skill matching up players is true. Always quiters and people who go -19 while 1 or more players on the other team go +20. Not to metion you connect me to the moon to some of the worst hosts I've ever experienced in this Halo universe. Here's a thought- try taking a box to somewhere else in the country or even the world and play for a little bit so you can see what I am talking about with the latency and lag. Then maybe you will gain a little insight into why so many people think your game is trash and your network model is garbage. Go read the forums. A lot of people mistake the horrible latency and lag for people cheating. There is no reason why you should let people with NATs that are anything but open play. It doesn't only affect voice, it affects how the game connects. And if anyone says it doesn't, they are lying. I am so fed up with the connection issues and the way people that play this game talk to each other and the fact that nothing is done about it or about the jtags and people that lagswitch that I am about to give up on you guys. I'm sure you don't care seeing how you already got my money. I can see you guys wanting to anger your hardcore fans so they will go away and you won't have to put as much effort into maintaining this game, but if that is the case you are no different than that money whording monster you got away from. Nothing but disappointment here. And that's coming from a lifelong (it's life, not mine) Halo fan. Please fix these things.

Thanks and take care
The Don

Wow chill out.

P.S. from a hardcore fan.

If true skill is running in the background, how hard is it really to just have it running so everyone could see their own rank per playlist then?

Bungie, should really consider having it out there makes it easier for us to know what Rank we are. As of right now, I see absolutely zero reason to stay playing. Because when I started at Halo 2 I wanted a high rank, same with Halo 3. But now seeing as there isn't any Ranking system, other than area there is no purpose for the playlists.

My idea is to keep the Arena system the way it is, Daily ratings, and Seasons. But also halo a Ranked Number in there as well and also for other playlists.

Question Mark?

I beat solo legendary with a couple tricks. Always carry a plasma pistol, and if you can, a DMR or magnum. ALWAYS take cover when getting fired upon, this will allow you to regain shields. Use drop shield or sprint, unless another armor ability is needed. Against brutes, if possible, use a needle rifle, it takes 3 needles and then KABLAMMO! Those tricks really helped me A lot.

Hmm, I beat Reach on Legendary alone the first week, not so tough if I must say, I mean if you have the time, know NOT to rush, and use a plasma pistol when needed(DONT WASTE DMR AMMO BULLETS ON ELITES!!!!!!--I hate seeing that, it takes like 16 shots to kill them sometimes lol, use a plasma pistol). And just try not to die. It took me three days after beating it on co-op. Anyway when I got to the lone wolf level at the end of the game, I just went out and purposely got killed by a bunch of grunts, BAM, I was done. Proud to say I'm a Lt. Grade 3 and have every achievement so far. n.n'

Come on, you know you guys are going to raise it to Commander at the end of the month so we can all rock the Halloween helmet on the 31st.

A couple of months, give or take.

Read the entire Update before you ask obvious questions, please.

Aside from all the Legendary tips that everyone has mentioned so far (noob combo for elites, needles for brutes, etc.), I think the best piece of general advice is to know what's coming and plan ahead. If you know what enemies you'll be facing later in the level, you can make things much, much easier on yourself by saving weapons or AAs for that situation.

For example, in the last level, there are a ton of rockets right at the beginning, but it's worth saving them for the hunters later on, even though you have to carry them around forever. Likewise, it's probably worth saving the sniper ammo from the boneyard portion of that same level for the end with all those brutes & elites.

Second, be creative. If your strategy isn't working, think outside the box - can you just run past everything, for example? In the level where the four hunters are guarding that switch, you can just skip them altogether by jetpacking past them, hitting the switch, and jetpacking away again.

Also, don't waste power weapons on wraiths, just do this: First take out the gunner (usually a grunt, so he dies easy). Hit it with an overcharged plasma shot or two so it can't run away, and just hijack it. (You'll probably have to kill everyone else in the area first.)

I think they got rid of the visible ranks because people got too wrapped up in it as a status symbol. That's what led to rampant second accounts, derankers, etc.

They're discouraging that by having the incentive be to play more - it's based on credits and cool armor, which isn't there if you get a second account and start over.

Obviously it won't eliminate that stuff (people will always want to beat up on noobs regardless of if they lose some cool armor effect) but it will probably cut down on that stuff.

@Helveck

Just an Average Joe...

Great update Sketch, I really enjoyed the part about Legendary.

Many difficult encounters I faced were made a hell of a lot easier thanks to our friend the plasma pistol. EMP'ing the Elite's shields and then cracking out a DMR or pistol made short work of the vicious groupings of Elites.

Also when facing SEVERAL encounters, before I would come up on whatever large grouping of enemies, I would NEVER run, charge, or attempt to find cover in that general area in which the enemies had already occupied. My tactic which I'm sure many others used was simply to hang back in an established safe area, and ping off from a distance as many enemies as possible.

Clearing the areas of Grunts and small infantry is absolutely paramount. They're weak, but the damage they inflict is enormous and if you leave them be and attempt to focus on the bigger fish first, you'll end up likely being done in by the little guys combined fire compared to a single Elite that you may be attempting to face.

j grizzly14 is a beast, trust me i know him.

legendary tip-plasma pistol-dmr take out any elite in two hits.

Rebellion in small things to let the world know I haven't surrendered.

What's the deal with "If they came to hear me beg"? I've tried this about 100 times on Pillar of Autumn, and can't unlock. I did see that you have to disengage Sprint, so I've been doing that. It still doesn't unlock. Do you have to disengage it before you even jump? Because I tried that once or twice and couldn't even get near the Elite.
I also tried it on The Package. I skyjacked a Banshee, flew high into the air, jumped out, manuevered with my Jetpack, and then fell on an Elite. I tried this quite a few times too, and it still doesn't unlock. Obviously there's no Sprint involved, so that's not the problem. Is it only unlockable on Pillar of Autumn?
