"If you want peace, Prepare for war." - The Punisher

Ive been having the same trouble. Did you ever figure it out after posting?

"If you want peace, Prepare for war." - The Punisher

haha the same thing happened to me, felt like I spent 4 hours in that mission.

  • 10.08.2010 9:26 PM PDT

Ok, that explains the rank cap, but why the hell are per-kill credits turned off with higher level commendations?

I imagine it's something to the effect "oh, we want to make sure that the player is given the opportunity to play each and every game mode by giving them other incentives to spend time with whatever they don't play so much" but who are you to try to dictate what we choose to play? If I want to spend time in campaign instead of matchmaking, well then you should respect that and not throw me off my path to Lt. Colonel just because I've grinded through more than the "recommended" amount of missions to earn my silver badges.

i beat it alone about 3 weeks ago and another really good thing to remember is ur objective sometimes isn't to kill everything but activate a switch or destroy something , ex on tots there is a point where i had to destroy the second aa gun but theres 2 hunters in my way and all i had was a plasma pistol and a needler rifle with no grenades , what did i do, did i die a million times fighting the hunters?!? well of course but then i had an Epiphany i used my little flatbed truck and drove it to the side of the cliff/hill where the aa gun was located behind the hunters , jumped on it jumped on the side of the cliff got behind the hunters destroyed the aa gun n ran like crazy. the hunters then instead of staying still moved out of their narrow chokehold area into a wide open field and it gave me enough room to move behind them and kill them

I beat Legendary in 3 days (Took me the entire third just trying to kill the Cruiser legit with the MAC :P) after release. One thing I can say... You've got to vary your encounters. One thing the DMR doesn't retain from the BR; it doesn't work at all ranges. And the Shotgun was my best friend during the Reach Campaign, whenever I could get it.

But the most important thing; If you can't beat a part, you're not doing it right. Bungie has made sure to give you EVERYTHING you need to beat every level, even if it's not completely obvious where to find it at first.

to address the solo legendary topic, here's some of the stuff i did to survive it as someone who used some of their credit ban time last weekend to complete it.

- be patient. you will die a lot. if you start to get mad, it's time to take a break.

- when faced with multiple hard enemies (elites, brutes), hide and take them out one by one while you work on the lesser enemies (nothing worse than a grunt zapping your shield while youre fighting a brute)

- respect the wraith.

- after dying multiple times in various spots, memorize the enemies' likely patterns and classes

- when you run across a heavy weapon, save it. cant stress this enough.

- know what weapons work better on certain enemies. sounds obvious but it took me a minute to figure it out in certain spots.

- you cannot depend on the AI allies for a damn thing. they are useless (while the spartans are immortal....???bungie). that includes all the non-spartans, civilians - dont bother trying to save them. SPOILER (lol) Reach is going to fall no matter what and you are going to die in the end anyway.

- backtrack. backtrack to get checkpoints, to get a breather, and backtrack to equipment and health. I couldn't tell you how many times I backtracked to the DMR ammo near the wraith battle at the beginning of Pillar.

- space level/mac gun sequence, the banshees will -blam!- everything up. dispatch of them quickly when possible.

- when applicable, try to stay far away with whatever ranged weapon you have (or the warthog with the rockets in that one level). this will help tremendously in whittling down groups of enemies and sometimes they will be stupid enough to stand still and take most of your shots.

- run away. im not ashamed to admit I ran right past those giant beast things and all of those hunters in the nightclub while shutting down the covie jammers.

think that's it.

Why is everyone complaining about the level cap? Lt. Colonel and up is only about 1% of people. If you've reached the cap buy some armor or armor effects for gods sake.
P.S. If you play offline there is no level cap.

Hehe I saw you on 'Pillar of Autumn.' I almost sent you a message, laughing at your time. But that would be mean.

Burrito's Solo Legendary Protip: Never melee. Always keep a plasma pistol, but never try a full charge on brutes.

  • 10.08.2010 10:06 PM PDT

For the achievement "A Monument to All Your Sins," a tip here would be to ALWAYS have a DMR or NEEDLE RIFLE when you can or a sniper rifle, and only waste DMR/NEEDLE ammo on ELITES and BRUTES or far ranging jackals with rifles.

"Tank beats brute......Tank beats ghost......Tank beats everything" - enthusiastic marine after you kill/destroy the mentioned things with a scorpion on the Ark.

I completed the campaign on day 4 of Halo: Reach's release. One thing that I found helpful was to use the members of Noble Team everywhere you get the chance. They are more useful that most people realize. True they don't charge in, but if you get close enough to the group of enemies that you're having trouble with, they will run in with guns blazing. This allows you to run in and either assassinate or beat down the group of enemies (usually Elites) easily. Also, if you don't have a sniper, rocket launcher, laser, target locator, shotgun, or energy sword, or plasma launcher, PICK UP A PLASM PISTOL. They are more useful than any other weapon againts Elites. Always have a precision weapon or magnum on you for those quick and easy head shots. And finally, shot from a distance whenever possible or when you're alone. The more you snipe, the less the non-sniper class enemies can shoot you. And this applies to the 9th mission as well, whether or not you are going for the scorpion acheivement. Those revenants can really pack a punch. These are all of the strategies I had to learn and apply in those first 4 days of Halo: Reach. And if you're wondering why it took me 4 days instead of 3, it's because I went for a lot of the campaign acheivements during my first runthrough, as well as playing it on legendary. Not exactly my definition of fun. :) Also, I messed around on multiplayer matchmaking on the second day.

O_db. dub is the path
O_qp. dnb is the gate

"This is cake"?......THE CAKE IS A LIEEE!!!

My tips for winning on lgendary alone is simple. Admit to yourself that you are awesome. And make it look nice. Another thing thats very important is the two best weapons. The plasma pistol and the DMR. It is the noob combo of reach. And since theres so many of them you always have spares. Also the two best armor abilities are hologram and camo. Anything that decieves the enemy is worth more than gold. And dont get too close to the enemy. Any weapon they use will shread you upp more than Shredder would with his crazy claws. Just take it slow and dont rush in without thinking. If you have 3-4 elites left to kill you can plan an attack if your coming in from behind. Always go for the assassinations. The ones where you use your knife in an awesome way. Chances are low that one measily hit will 1 hit kill em. But this will also alert the remaining elites so sprint is an awesome way to get out of crossfire. "Live to fight another day" as written in my bible called "The fall of Reach". Dont be afraid to run away instead of dying and being humiliated.

Always go for the grunts first. They are just as dangerous as the elites (if not more) because of their numbers and the insane damage and speed they shoot at. Also, STAY AWAY FROM THEM! Those suckers are AI and dont care about throwing away their virtual lives in a kamekaze fashion.

One weapon thats not worth much in solo legendary is the grenade launcher. You might as well pick up rocks and chugg em at those nasty hunters. Which brings me to the most feared enemies. Hunters.....Wow. Bungie realy outdid themselves in making those slimey worms fearfull. I HATED seeing them from affar thinking "-blam!-!!! I got a magnum and plasma pistol. Might as well have a rock and a stick" The rockets are a givin for weakening them. If you have (Usualy) 4 shots with it dont waste it on 1 of them. go 50/50. fighting one alone is a bit harder imo. They rage like rageguy. Getting up close is a challange fur sure. And realy fun actually. But if you value your virtual self stay as far away as possible. Its easier to dodge the plasma than the hammer(of dawn :P). Use your spartan team, Kat, Emile, Jun, Jorge or carter to grab the hunters attention and run and gun then hide when they seem pissed off att you and turn around. On the final mission I found a way to get passed the last two hunters by jumping and crouching through the window. If you feel like it go ahead and run away leaving Emile to fight with his knife. But remember that every ounce of manly/womanly pride will disappear from you if you do.

One realy tough mission was the space mission. (SPOILERS)

If you know that you are boarding a covi ship then you should go with Romeos logic of being in close quarters. A shotgun or a sword cant go wrong. But dont forget the DMR. There will be times when its hard to get close. Therefore get the dropshield as you go. It Will let you circle around and get more stable cover. And maybe a flanking opportunity If you managed to keep one or two poor soldiers alive to cause a distraction. And never forget to say "Dig My Rifle" as you headshot those squeakers into the digital kill chart.

THats about all I can give in my hungover state of awesomeness. Time for some noodles.

Tell 'em to make it count.

My tips for Legendary solo:
1)Use ranged weapons at all possible opportunites; less danger to you, and no loss in danger to the enemy.
2)Use the Plasma Pistol. Its overcharge ability can be combined with Sprint to jack tough vehicles likes Wraiths and Revenants; it can also be used in tandem with a DMR or Magnum to take out heavily shielded enemies with ease.
3)Be patient. Take your time when dealing with any enemy, from Grunt to Hunter. Wear them down slowly with hit-and-run attacks if you have to. but no matter what, never rush. You'll be punished for it, I promise you.
4)Put yourself in the suit. Don't just play the game, be IN the game; play your character as if each death was really your own; try not to get hit at all, as if you didn't have shields. Nothing can kill you if it can't damage you.
5)Remember: everything but Scarabs can be killed with even the smallest amounts of damage adding up; this includes AA guns (great for Tip of the Spear; take a Rocket Hog or Revenant and blast it from a distance) and even Phantoms.

Great update. Can't wait for more playlists. I have 2 achievments to go before hitting 1000/1000 and they are of course make it rain and a monument to all your sins(i have the hardest time with this one). However, i am determined to and will get these soon. Legendary solo was pretty tough and in fact many many deaths were required on my part in order to beat it but in the end i triumphed. That said, it still didn't top the absolute weeks long struggle i went through with halo 2 (i played through the second shuttle bay more times than i care to remember). On the matchmaking front i want firefight classic. The current playlists are fun are a great break from competitive multiplayer, but most of the firefight gametypes are too easy. Sometimes i really want a challenge and firefight classic would be a perfect playlist to challenge firefight enthusiast like myself. It would be that much more fun to try and top the scores of your friends. Glad to hear MLGplaylist is somewhere down the line which should cool off the slayerPro enthusiasts. Unlike most i agree with the decision to remove it from TeamArena. It and the people who play it differ from the regular slayer oriented people like myself who both embrace and love armor abilities. I do agree with them on one thing however and that is slayerPro should be on a playlist of its own. That way we can all stick to what we like and sometimes cross over when we are craving something different. That said if slayerPro is the only gametype that you like on this game then why are you even here. Go back to halo 3 or something else that better suits your taste. If you play a game for one small aspect(and lets be honest one gametype is a pretty small reason) then you are doing yourself a diservice. If not then do yourself a favor. Play some firefight or some campaign. Do some forging. Play another game. Bungie isn't going to forget about you, but at the same time they have a lot of other things on their plate. You are not the only people who play halo.
One last thing. Please bring the whambulance back. I thouroughly enjoy reading the pathetic excuses that cheaters cook up. BANHAMMER FTW!

Best Offense Is A Good Defense.
Gamer Tag : Wongnim

"For example, in "New Alexandria", Dan Miller will throw more Banshee patrols at your Falcon as you fly around the city..."

Ha, a few more? You will practically always be under attack by them, thank goodness they seem to do far less damage then they probably would otherwise be expected to do, you are more likely to get killed by a turret then a flock of banshees, or your falcon running out of health and blowing up on you, which leads to my tip, if your ship is on or about to catch on fire, replace it. Simply land and ask for another one.

Also, Solo Legendary is evil, it is a real pain to do. In the level at the part where you're underground, and you don't feal like putting up much more of a fight, simply hijack a banshee and avoid the fight altogether. Unfortunatly, they didn't make some consequence for failing at defending the spot.

I support PORYGON.

"Try speaking American, it's the only language I understand"-Bandit Keith

"Alas poor Yorik, I knew him... IN AMERICA."-Bandit Keith

Great read, very informative and funny.

Some tips (Even though most were said anyway)

1. Noob Combo: Sure, people can call you names on Xbox Live, but what can the AI do? Nothing, so use that against Elites. It works well and the plasma pistol has a better lock on.

2. Needle Rifle: Sure when you use it the enemies will dodge and roll away unlike when using a DMR, so just use it on Brutes. 3 shots and their dead. Who needs headshots when a lovable pink explosion can do the trick on those hairless ape-trolls.

3. Marines/Troopers: You're probably saying right now that they suck on Ledgandary. True, but when you give them that Rocket Launcher, it makes things easier. This is especially helpful when you are driving Warthogs or any veichle with a passanger seat. Slap that comrade on there and enjoy yourself. The Heavy weapons like the Rockets lock on enemies EVEN those not on veichles. I don't know how they do it, but who cares! Don't think they're useless now huh.

4.Bait: Pretty self explanatory. Just let the Spartans take damage and shoot the enemies from afar. They'll be more focused on them as long as you are not too close. Remember Spartans never die, so they will be fine.

I started playing the Reach campaign for the first time on Legendary a little while ago when it was still 10/08/10. It is awesome so far. I have beaten levels 2, 3, 4, and 5 on Legendary. I've been playing for campaign for 4 hours and 53 minutes. Woohoo!

Also, this is random but why does my Bungie.net status keep going from Heroic Member back to Member? This makes me sad face.

I have beaten the Legendary solo but some of the things you said about it didn't happen to me. 4 hunters on Nightfall for example, nope I just had 2. I barely met any camo elites during the campaign, maybe thats just luck.

Advice for Legendary on Solo, don't go in to close quarter combat and always have a DMR or NR with you. Powerweapons are fun but never carry 2 of them, they are usually only good in certain situations and you tend to run out of ammo really quick.

I found that Sprint and Hologram is the best AA. Some battles you can run past, the first level winter something, I don't know how many bullets I fired but it wasnt many.

High level Elites, Plasma pistol and DMR to the head.

  • 10.09.2010 12:21 AM PDT

I agree almost entirely with Elite Predator. When it comes to beating Legendary on your own, these tips help.

1. N00B Combo, all elites. End of story. Plasma pistol + headshot weapon = Achievements.

2. Didn't really try this one. Although I prefer this weapon to the DMR, ammo can be scarce.

3. Just killed one of the loser grunts carrying the Fuel Rod Cannon? Take it and give to a marine, infinite ammo for them, 7 shots for you.

4. Let anybody and everybody draw their fire from you. Those guys are tough, its much easier if they aren't shooting at you.

And my bonus tip:

5. Long ranged weapons. I sat back and tried to avoid any close range combat because an elite can kill you with a single melee. Get headshots on grunts to conserve ammo and wither down the bigger foes with slow, accurate fire from afar. DMR, Needle Rifle, Sniper Rifle and pistol, the most valuable guns in single player Legendary.

(Additionally if you pop their shields, do everything in your power to kill them quickly. Those shields recharge and you don't want to waste another clip trying to get past their thick candy shell.

  • 10.09.2010 12:26 AM PDT

Here's a good piece of advice on Legendary. At the last point when you are on the cannon in Pillar of Autumn, DO NOT go straight into the cannon. Wait until you hear from Keyes that you have to fire now. The Phantoms will not attack you. At least not until you get into the seat. And at that point, you only need to make one shot. Easy.

Legendary is just Trial and Error. If you put your mind to it, you can slog through it.

Like the part in New Alexandria, i just gave up trying to kill the hunters, it just was not happening. I ran in, activated the jammer, and hauled my ass out of there.

The most frustrating part for me was on PoA. Two Hunters standard formation. I had a Plasma Repeater and a Shotgun. It was hell... I would always get one down to turn around and see a hunter shield flying at my face.

My advice is, "Learn from your mistakes, your gonna make a lot, trust me... Just see what you do wrong and adapt your strategy."

Proud to say I beat Solo legendary in just around 9 hours.

As much as I hate to admit it, SpartanMk18 is right in saying that Legendary solo is all trial and error. Try and Try again until you get to the next checkpoint.

This method has led me through 5 games on solo Legendary.
