Just a small tip on beating Legendary. At the end, when you are supposed to get into the big cannon, DO NOT get into it. Hang back just below it and wait for the Cruiser to get into position. When Keyes says that you have to fire now, hop on up and get into the cannon and fire at the target. The Phantoms will not fire at you until you get into the cannon. By that point, it will be too late. Worked for me.

I simply want to say thank you for this update of information. Hopefully this will lower the amount of "Derrr when da rank cap be lifted?" posts that keep popping up every other five seconds on here lol.

I've been stuck on Lt. Col Gr. 3 for almost two weeks now. I just checked my offline rank - I'm 20,000cr from Colonel, having already leveled through Commander.

This update is a solid bit of fact. No speculation. Can't wait to see some new Forge variants!

Spartins never die, they are only MIA

I can honestly say that the hardest achievement i have gotten was A monument to all your sins, my tips for completing this not so small feat is simple, aim for the HEAD!!!!!! there is no quicker way than head shots, as stated before noob combo dmr/plasma pistol works wonders, saves dmr ammo and gets enemys killed. keep your distance and take your time, if you find yourself short of ammo backtrack to an ammo drop. Some parts i found myself sprinting compltly past until i reached a checkpoint. Hunters are best killed with the shotgun and hide strategy, get 1-2 shots off run away and hide 1-2 shots off runaway and hide, you will find this helpful as you will not be beaten down by the hunter hammering you. Take out grunts and enemy's without shields first as they tend to be very annoying when fighting tougher enemy's. Avoid wraiths and other enemy vehicles when possible. Needle rifle is a great replacement when low on DMR Ammo. Grenade's can be great for taking out grunts and enemy shields when placed right. Power Weapon's are there for a reason don't be afraid to pick them up and save them for later on in the level.

(SPOILER******)

In the final mission when you face the elites at the end, make sure to take out the elites on the bottom floor i found it easier to do that then run across the other side under the stairs to the DMR Ammo, then take out the engineer so that the other 2 do not have over shield. Finally take your time dont get frustrated and learn the patterns of enemy patrols!!!!

A pretty dry update, though lots of exciting news to come (hopefully).

Within two Gruntpocalypse games I'll be within that very small percentage of Lt Colonels. Nice.

"Monument to all my sins" may have taken me longer, but it caused me a lot less grief and frustration than "if they came to hear me beg"... too me days of trying, over and over and over and over and over and over. Every time I scored an assassination my heart stopped, wondering if the achievement would pop; it took a week before it finally did. So frustrating.

Level cap oh level cap. I buy halo reach trying to reach a high rank, acquire some decent armor, and listen to people tell me how i have no life and haven't kissed the ladies, but to only to find out this will not be happening soon.. That the cap might not be raised for months.. I leave for basic military training in 1 month.. So i ask you Reach universe.. Will you sit stuck at the next level cap, and wait. Wait till i finish BMT. I shall be back to reclaim my position on top. k thanksss:D

i hate how you say your updates are not going to be very " informal", and then they're just epic ! congrats on ur " monument". I have Pillar of Autumn left to conquer on solo, and mainly because im just saving it for a rainy day. I'll miss my bleep bloops when they're all gone.

IMO, leave the cap on for much longer, until at least 50 Percent reach it. In all honesty and without trying to argue reaching it without farming and taking advantage of the credit system is not an easy feat and im certain many would agree.

I usually don't read every word of the updates, but this one was largely informal, "thank you bungie" for the ranking chart/graph.

good work, Urk.

Why is it that Bungie is so insistent on rewarding people who weren't big enough fans to buy your game day one-- or who weren't big enough fans to play it regularly-- but punish the hardcore fans who have already reached Lt. Colonel Grade 3.

The only thing this rank cap is doing is taking away the enjoyment of leveling up. It's not discouraging boosters, since once the cap is unlocked, the rank catches up to what it should be anyway. I don't know about the rest of the community, but in "A MONTH OR TWO" when I turn on my Xbox, I don't want to see that I'm already an Inheritor, and say, "Well, damn, I guess I already did everything there is to do." I've already skipped over Commander entirely, I don't want to skip the rest of them.

It seems like the only way to miss out on things in the game... is to stop playing the game.

Finally, Someone with a reasoned, fair argument regarding the level cap. All the kids ranting, threatening to leave of CoD don't help. I totally agree with everything this guy says, I don't want to stop playing Halo, but I don't want to miss out on a load of ranks. Why punish the people who play the most and love the game.

And by the sounds of it, the cap is "being raised" not removed. This is the first time I've felt let down by Bungie in 10 years.

  • 10.09.2010 3:27 AM PDT

omg! i thought i was the only one that thought this, seriously what is bungie thinking?! i waited patiently for this game, payed in full, bought three month live gold (its bad enough MS is raising the damn price) and for what? the content is on the disk already, why cant i have what i worked hard to pay for?! they say theyll lift the cap "in a month or two", like it aint -blam!-. And this is laughable, bungie decides to launch campaign matchmaking a month after it has been released...ill just let that sink in for a moment....what use is it now?! is bungie f*in high? (they most likely are, given their status)
you know, after 10 years of being a loyal fan, i too, feel let down. y should we wait for others to catch up? if they cared enough to rank up they would have done it along with the rest maxed out players. this is a result of poor planning in how they structured the ranking process and it shows in their actions as developers, i expected this from a developer like Electronic Arts but never from Bungie. bungie has committed a huge betrayal (pun intended)

Dear Bungie, I have a question I hope you could answer.

WHEN WILL WE HEAR ABOUT THE LEGENDARY ENDING?

Surprising that less than 1% is patiently sitting at the level cap. I've been capped for almost a week and it hasn't slowed me down. Thank you Bungie for letting us continue to earn credits toward future ranks.

I hope I'm not the only person who finds it ridiculous that some of the same people previously complaining about their inability to rank while capped are now complaining that they will be ranking too much when the cap lifts. Seriously?!

Also surprised that only 5% have beaten the game on solo Legendary. Here are my two cents (because I'm sure you're just dying to know what one more person has to say about it):

Cent #1 - Collect ammo after every battle. Ammo boxes, dead marines, enemies... you'll find plenty scattered around. There's nothing more frustrating than trying to hold off seven waves of Covenant with a Needler and an empty Spiker.

Cent #2 - Anticipate your next shot. Enemies follow specific evade patterns, so learn them and line up your shot as they dodge.

It took me about 10 hours to finish the game alone on Legendary (after a 7.5 hour run on Heroic). My best advice? Learn to use active camo effectively. I was able to sneak my way through large portions of Nightfall without killing any Covenant and it's invaluable for taking down the Shade turrets at the end of the level. It's also excellent for making your way to the pulse generators in New Alexandria.

Love the game. Love the post release dedication. Keep up the great work.

(FYI: Your Facebook page doesn't mention this weekly update)

The actual Rank-up system is very -blam!-. in Halo 3 you're lvling faster then in reach and that makes me depressed. And for those who have a daily Job it's even more frustrating to hang arround with the rank for example Warrant Officer. I'm missing the glory times when i unlocked cool Armor and i was proud of it to have it then. But the Creditsystem brakes this "feeling". Every kid now has a good armor cause of playing in their daily time and "farming" cR's. This sucks very much. The actual Bootingsystem is another Story of -blam!-.

When I got Halo: Reach the first thing I did was jump into Legendary. It was a sort of way to honor Bungie and the Halo franchise's last real Halo game. Most parts I found to be relatively easy while others were plain evil. Now, as I was playing I kept it real slow and steady. I didn't want to make a habit of trying to speed through it as I knew it would have made the game slower than waiting. When it comes to fighting, I find that if I let the other NOBLE spartans do my work, lower shields, or kill enemies, then I don't die. However, in times where I am by myself I took charge. Never take an Elite or Brute on in close quarters. If they have full shields then you will die. The only exception to this is the Shotgun. The weapon is powerful, but the enemies can easily topple you and that power weapon over. When it comes to AAs, I ALWAYS stuck with Sprint. Unless the game forced me to use something different, I always used Sprint. NEVER take anything else. That extra speed boost can and will provide additional time to running and kiting away from the Covenant.

Hey, I've completed the campaign on legendary solo and co-op, but I haven't gotten the achievement?? I ask you o-mighty Bungieman if you could help me in any way.

my achievements:
http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/Achievements.aspx?player=Sc atman%20NOR

Anyway my tips for the campaign is just to always carry a plasma pistol and a precision weapon, take down any shields with the plasma pistol, and headshot any unshielded enemy with the DMR or the Magnum. Also, the plasma pistol is very effective against brutes if you spam the trigger.

Walk to close you get burnt
stray to far away you freeze

Legendary alone walk-through
have cowbell, grunt birthday on (you can have iwhbyd on if you want to laugh at covey silly fear)
For the nightfall mission:
my suggestion is to make sure you don't alert the first 8 enemies and let Jun pick them off ( you should be able to run and assassinate the elite on the cliff if you fall restart and try again)and then you can sneak with you back to the wall. The first building to the left should have camo in it rush down the stairs and hide till an elite walks in then out (or go straight for the camo but make sure to take the high road and try to give your camo time to recharge
I have my play through recorded I didn't have to fire a bullet
Also that forklift is actually helpful if you place it at the end of the bridge where the hunters drop you can shot it with plasma launcher shots an kill both hunters with 4 sticky extremely helpful.
Also what ever level you see the Big gray ox monsters (Guto) let them take the covey out the stand back and kill them quick because they won't hesitate to kill you.

First the first level make sure when you get to the over look part you stick left and sprint if done right you shouldn't have to kill any one till the part with the marines and at that point you can just camp and hide and let your teammates do the work
2 levels 0 bullets

For long night of solace if you sprint to the base grab shield and wait till you team clear covey out then steal any marines missiles and shotgun go to ship easy start
then, flying is easy once you shield drop go behind base and take cover till fully healed in once your at the corvette kill the elite with that shotgun from the marine. spin around once to take all marine in to your fire team.
when in side stick to the middle of the base grab the shield
make sure you have 2 missiles left when reenforcement come through the door and light them up!!
its standard shot shot take cove till the control center once in control center let the elite get to his station the assassinate him assassinate the one behind him their are 2 more elites and 5-7 grunts assassinate the general if not detected by enemy ( detected rush shottykill the general) then go for mister swordy) then shot swordy guy block his lunge then finish him off. grab his sword kill the reenforcement with needle rifle after setting coarse. its easy from their on out.

for the second mission only advise is to go left first kat will be of no help this mission (when did it i got out of the wart hog she got in and drove up the mountain got blown up and i did the rest solo no help at all) but that mission easy any way.
if any one request i can put up clips of hard point on my file share

So I am not going to read all 8 pages to see what people said about their Legendary solo experiance, so I am going to tell you all my number one and number two trick.

I beat the campaign on Legendary solo within the first week the game came out. I am a achievement hunter and only one away from having then all. Currently I am Major Grade 3 and about to get the last one when I become a Lt. Colonel.

Tip 1: Be a little girl and RUN!
The best thing you can do during the campaign is use your sprint ability to get past all of the annoying parts in the campaign. I recommend that you don't try and sprint through all of the covenent. Run around the edge and sneak past most of the annoying fighting that takes place.

Tip 2: I need a medic!
The drop shield or "bubble shield" as we all know and love it for can be your best friend during the parts of the campaign that you can't simply run past. A lot of the time there are no health packs around and a well placed drop shield around the corner can be your infinate health pack. In a large field of covenent your drop shield may break. Best used when you picked off a lot of eliets but your about to die.

Just remember that this will take you a long time. Do one mission a day so it doesn't get too frustrating if you want. Hope this helps all of you hungry achievement loving people out there.
