I'm not sure as to why the True Skill is per playlist and doesn't count across everything?

What I mean is that, it's annoying to play a gametype such as objective against someone who is 10x more skilled than me.

In Halo 3, I could see their skill. They were a level 50 in.. whatever playlist (lets say Slayer) but because they barely played Team Objective, I got stuck playing against them because they were only level 20 in that mode. Surely if they can reach a level 50 in slayer, they would have no problem carrying a flag or planting a bomb so why wouldn't they be a 50 in everything?

If they can kick so much butt they made it to a level 50 in the first place, they should only be playing with and against other 50s in every mode they play. Not go play something they never play like Objective just to feel good about themselves.

I understand drastically different modes like SWAT because so long as you're quick and aim right, it's pretty easy to do well in SWAT so I could see someone being really good in SWAT but not necessarily that good in normal Slayer or Objective. Couldn't there be maybe two or three groups for different levels instead of it being different for every single mode?

I call shenanigans on the level up chart. Its problem is that it shows everyone who has ever played Reach, including people who only rented the game or who have already sold it back and moved on to other stuff (it's been out nearly a month already.) It doesn't reflect the active playing community who are going to keep playing Reach over the next few months and beyond. I'd bet money that most of the people in the first quartile will never play Reach again, and many of those in the second quartile will never advance to captain.

I'd like to see a chart of the ranks of those players who have earned credits on two or more separate days in the past week. I bet it will be skewed much more heavily to the ranks found currently in the third quartile.

I understand why the level cap was in place: to put an artificial block on infinite credit boosting. The community has now tried and failed to find an easy way to boost credits that will keep working indefinitely. I applaud Bungie's game design. It rewards players clever enough to work out glitches and boosts, but puts a cap on credit farming so that very soon these players have to return to normal play or work out a new way to boost. The system works, time to lift the level cap.

Some Legendary Tips (these apply to every Halo game):

1. Plasma Pistol Overcharge: Enough people have already mentioned this

2. Instant kills: Some things are instant kills on any difficulty: headshots to unshielded infantry, plasma sticks, needle explosions, etc. Use these methods of killing whenever you can. There are a few enemies, mostly high ranking elites, who need to be double killed (i.e. two plasma sticks.)

3. Abuse the vehicles: You generally deal out a more damage at longer range while being much harder to kill in a vehicle. Stay in vehicles every chance you get and use them to combat infantry. An example of this would be hosing down buildings with Falcon fire before you enter on New Alexandria.

4. Checkpoints are your friends: if you get a checkpoint right before a tough fight, it's your chance to rush out there and do a supercool combat move (usually an assassination, grenade stick or something where you expend rare ammo for a power weapon) to end the fight quickly. If you miss your attack, just reload the last checkpoint and try again. If you haven't seen a checkpoint in a while, play conservatively. Don't risk dying or wasting precious ammo.

5. You don't have to kill everyone: Many difficult fights can be avoided by driving or sprinting through them. If you are playing co-op, you can send your buddy ahead while you wait to trigger the events that cause more enemies to appear. If you die, you'll respawn on the other side of the fight and can keep going. This works really well when disabling the jammers in New Alexandria.

The only thing I will say about solo legendary is ... take your time. You can not try and rush through this, you will die quick. Even the grunts take your shield and health down quick.

Having fun with the time I got left, let's hope the call doesn't come. Or I'll hit you with my Cadillac! Proud 11Bang Bang Hooah!

In Legendary, I always watched the covenants patterns so I could figure out what to do from there. I always take out the small threats first (grunts and snipers) with head shots and move back into cover. Just attack in short bursts, wait for a few seconds then assault again.

If there is a bloodless option to move forward take that. Let the others in Noble team distract the big enemies (insanely tough elites, plasma happy brutes). If you see a window to take out an enemy go for it. Thats all I got.

Advice for anyone who gets stuck on the level Nightfall or the 7th level inside the Corvette, the main key is to use INVISIBILITY!! After beating the game on Legendary alone and not receiving the achievement, I went back through and beat the game again. I was able to beat Nightfall with only 2 deaths by using invisibility and casually walking passed all of the enemies.

Yeah, because its possible to get 1 million points in firefight matchmaking which only gives you one set to score on, on heroic which is only a 1.25 multiplier.

The needler is your friend!

Believe me, you'll find ammo everywhere, and you'll kill everything.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I'm glad Infection will get its own playlist, now I might be able to play something else in Rumble Pit.
Loved the Achievement Stats!

  • 10.12.2010 9:08 AM PDT

That would be interesting to know. I personally have all but one achievement and that is to upload a file. I would have done it but I cannot access it for I am restricted and I do not understand why. I have learn others have this problem and it would be nice if Bungie would take a look into this problem.

  • 10.12.2010 9:31 AM PDT

i love playing halo! and i would love being a bungie beta tester but my biggest dream would be working with bungie to make new kick ass video games!

Legendary alone, some tips i have are:
1)Be Patient.
2)Always Flank(meaning dont go right into the enemies go around)
3)Plasma Pistols are AWSOME agaisnt elites.
4)Shoot for the head.
and finally make sure you take some water breaks or something yo clear your mind and then go right back into it.

  • 10.12.2010 11:32 AM PDT

So the gap between ranks decreases when you hit captain?

Good news to me.

I have the monument to your sins achievement. My advice, patience. I died at least 80 times per mission I think, but eventually I would stumble through. I did about 2 missions per day so it took me less than a week.

  • 10.12.2010 5:54 PM PDT

I was in the middle in the autumn break, so I had lot's of time to play :D

I did try to send you (Sketch) a private message but I'll be public with this as well in case you do not see my message as I know your busy. Currently I am in the process of finishing one of my many Halo: Reach projects up by completing the Halo: Reach Campaign on Legendary solo without dying at all. This project will consist of an all but meticulous guide to beating the game without dying. On my file share you will see that I have all missions completed solo Legendary with no deaths except for the last mission, Pillar of Autumn. I have analyzed the methodology of the "how" to beat the final mission without dying in rally point segments and it is safe to say it will be only a matter of at most a week that I will have this done. Anyone (emphasizing Sketch) feel free to contact me for my expertise via XBL or download my files on my file share and learn on your own. Sincerely from a gaming priority one Bungie fan, XBL:ARCTIC ZEROMAN

I am maxed out AND have 'a monument to all your sins'. I feel special!!!!! top 5% BABY!!!!

ALSO - the easiest way to get that achievement for me was WEAPON MANAGEMENT . You can usually find a power weapon on every map if you look around or take them off the covenant. As long as you keep one of the following (rocket launcher, fuel rod launcher, shotgun, needler or sniper rifle) with you at all times it should really help get through the harder areas. I prefer the Fuel rod or the sniper because they hold the most ammo of any of the power weapons. save it for the ends of the Missions when it is the hardest and use sparingly though out the missions making sure not to use all your super weapon ammo on easy enemies.
This REALLY made the game on legendary much easier for me. there are weapons hidden all over these missions. GOOD LUCK & AIM STRAIT!!!

  • 10.13.2010 11:16 AM PDT

that sound good and all but if you don't get any achievement for beating the game without dying why torture yourself??? you will have to go so slow in order to insure not dying.
you could name that achievement "beating your head against the wall" cause thats what it's going to feel like for anyone who tries that after getting "a monument to all your sins"

  • 10.13.2010 11:22 AM PDT

I beat Reach on Legendary - alone. Heres some tips
- Spiderbite: Legendary campaign walkthrough.
- Take your time. Let noble team take the damage and you sit back with the DMR.
- Against multiple elites; take out the grunts and jackles first then Plasma Pistol and DMR combo them.(Thats how to get past the last section of "The Pillar of Autumn" mission.)
- Finally, Save the Spartan Lasor on "The Pillar of Autumn" Mission for the two hunters.

I completed each mission in about 45mins to an hour tops.
