There was also the website that connected to the myth metaserver. :)
In the beginning, there was Myth (and Myth 2). They had multiplayer, and used a service called "bungie.net" for matchmaking (also known as a metaserver). A website was created to hook into this to show stuff about your Myth playing... this website was also called bungie.net.
In Novemeber 2001, Halo was released. Along with it, bungie.net was reborn, free of the Myth roots, as a news/community site with Fanclubs - the 7th Column was born. Eventually, forums were added, and much spamming ensued.
About a year later, the Overlord (me) decided that Halo 2 would destroy the small little codebase that was bungie.net, and thus the "new hotness" was born. It was unleased on April 12th, and its full potential realized upon the release of Halo 2 and its many stats.
Thus the circle was completed - from Myth game/web interface to Halo/web interface. And Bungie saw that it was good, and then banned a bunch of people for cheating, just like before.
Wow, it's like reading a passage from the bible, but I can actually understand what it means.
