Ok so I just recently got a new pc, and im hoping to use the "old" computer as a dedicated server. So, I downloaded the dedicated server and the 1.06 patch, got it up and running and was playing on it within a matter of minutes...

...now its 2 days later and i'm having some trouble. the server is running on the same network as the computer i join into it with, yet the server doesnt show up in the LAN list in halo pc. furthermore, it no longer shows up in the internet server list either. however, xfire still detects the server, and I (along with other friends of mine) am able to join the server through xfire just fine. so the server is running and people can join through direct IP or through xfire, but it doesnt show up anymore in the halo pc server list. ive completely turned off the windows xp firewall and completely re-forwarded the ports in my router (80, 2302 and 2303). the server is functional, it just doesnt show up in the server list...and it did just the other day. if anyone have any input that could help it is greatly appreciated.

Keep your shorts on. Make sure you have the sv_public=True line in your init file. sv_public=1 is used for CE and won't work for PC. Some people get those confused. LMK if it works

im able to get the server to show up in the LAN list now, as well as xfire. i have forwarded ports 80, 2302 and 2303 in my router, and turned off windows xp firewall. when i put in the sv_public command, its as if the dedicated server program doesnt register anything. there is no confirmation of whether the command was executed or not, nothing happens at all. sv_public seems to not get recognized as anything

usually when you put in a command you get a confirmation either saying

rcon command finished
or
"command" cannot be executed now
rcon command failed

i dont get either of these with sv_public. i dont get anything at all...

I'm not positive but I think the sv_public command only works if you put it in the init.txt file that the dedicated server starts up with. Have you tried that? There are a couple command that won't work on the rconsole. not 100% sure.

yeah i think you're right about the sv_public, and yes i did put it in the init.txt file. when i originally setup my server i did that and it worked fine, but now the server only shows up through xfire and on LAN, but not on the internet servers list. anyone can join it through direct ip, so it is functional, but invisible to the public. im still having trouble figuring this out so if anyone has anything more to say, please do

edit: everything is working fine now
