I think its Mars or some other moon of a near by planet of earth. I love the fact that there going to have multiple planets to explore in Halo 2. Well at least thats what the rumor is so If you would like to comment on my post feel free too! I like to hear what other people think.

Another theory was that it looks like the moon next to halo....I think it's called threshold, or is that the gas planet? I dunno, but yeah, they thought it might be that moon. And Bungie said that you'll be able to go to at least one moon.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

Yes, I never really thought about it that way but it does look like Mars. Although it has been sugessted from people that have bothered to read the books that it also looks like the flood homeworld. *GASP* That would be a scary single player level.

The Master Chief emerged from his code. After seeing his dynamically lit realtime shadow, he went back for 9 more months of development.

Behold the power of the Originals, the Gods Axeone-Neurone.

Here is a link to my opinion of where that is.

The ScreenShot looks like a barron wasteland like the Gas Giant Threshold.
The moon that you speak of is Basis.

If it that screen was taken on either, it's Threshold.

There is no surface to a gas giant it is gas. Plus the gravity would be too great.

Flood Homeworld? I've read all the books and didn't see any mention about a 'Flood Homeworld.'

Better yet, what are those trails of energy? Is it weapon's discharge? If so, it's a weapon we've never seen before.

It is not from the Halo books. It from the Vang series by Christopher Rowley one of the inspiration for Halo. Look at my post on Burial Mounds and it will explain the similaries.

It's gotta be something smaller than the earth, given how high one of the blue spartans is jumping.
