To corny22385...man your name says it all, corny. thats what that post was...

you stated...DO NOT REMOVE ALL RANKS:
Though it maybe true that cheaters will greatly decrease if ranks are removed, it is also true that players in general will greatly decrease. It is not a valid argument to make ranks invisible, because ranks are one of the things that made Halo 2 so popular in the first place.

thats totall bull crap. like i said before, have you ever played on a tunneling service where there are no ranks? virtaully cheat free and the playing community is growing everyday. thats why most of these guys cheat, for that lilttle number by their names. also with the tunneling services they have dedicated arenas for modders and hackers which kinda makes cheating pointless. it IS a VERY valid argument(not to make ranks invisible but to remove them totally). if the ranks where to be removed the player number wouldnt decrease, it would increase significantly due to the fact that gamers that quit due to cheating may come back now that the cheaters are thinning out. who cares about a number by your name, your playin to have fun and just game...not for some number. and by no means is ranks a reason for halo 2's success...have you ever heard of a game called halo ce? thats the reason for halo 2's success.
i personally think it is to late to fix the cheating problem for halo 2 though since halo 3 is so close to coming out, once it is released the same thing will happen with halo 2 as did halo ce, most people will go to halo 3. i believe that this is all preparation for halo 3, to make it much better than its two predecessors (especially the online part of it). i really hope bungie learns and there are no ranks at all for halo 3.

Well said Vladoosch. People did not start playing halo2 becauce of the fact that they can increase a number next to their name. Peolple began playing halo2 becuse they enjoyed aspects of its predecessors Halo1 and Halo ce which did not have a ranking system. My level ranges from 35 to a 30 and keeps varying depending on whether I will get cheated on. Levels mean nothing!!!!! They are not going to get you a better job or better grades or that hot chick down the street. The number next to your name is used to match players with similar skill levels. And since MOST of the extremely high levels don't have skill, It seems pointless to me to have visible ranks so that the cheaters can brag about how they cheated to get a meaningless number. I know Several people that quit because of the cheating that occurs and I have been back and forth ready to hang up my halo controller again. Removing the reason why cheaters cheat will reduce the number of cheaters and maybe bring back some of those legit players that just play to have a good time. If removing a number next to my name means that I will actually play in a fair match, then get rid of them, like I said It's a meaningless number

i actually agree i mean it is worth loosing the 33 next to my name cause now that i think about it i wouldent spend so many nights screaming at the tv cause one guy is spawn killing during a slayer match. maybe instead like the players average position like mine is 3rd place right nowand out of a few losses in big team battle and some goofing around in team tranin thats not too bad but still i have my vote along with the others on getting rid of the ranking system.

ok today i got on and well i was in a room with people with i think 49's and really i wasnt impressed just cause i mean hell they were bragging about cheating people.

also they need to do somthing about bridging and the secondary stand-by thing i mean its undetectable by the mod catcher and when the accounts get suspended its not for long enough. and when they get banned the players use those two month free trials i mean cant they ban the box itself some how.

i dunno im just rambling but these are things that need to be talked about

Sucgie is an idiotic company that does not under stand what it even created. I get modded a minimum of 3 times a day even when I only play a couple hours. Bungies game gives host the the crappiest people ever some times even when bridging is not involved. One game both teams where complaining about the -blam!-nes of the host when I know my friend has an excelent host. I know that the idiots that designed the game try not to give host to one guy all the time but if they got the connection for it give it to them damit. WHat the -blam!- is with all the -blam!- crap that people do with host and without. Shared host ??? WTH. Team host ???? WTH I am a Legit 36. How did we do it? Very VERY carefully. No cheating detectable of undetectable involved. I know more about cheating than the whole of bungie and my friend who has done every kind of cheating imagenable knows more than me for sure. My friend has a 44 in double team that only got blacklisted. Thats just sad bungie. That Prooves how stupid you are you should completely ban any acount over 42 because they had to cheat one way or another either bridging of boosting witch meen they only care about rank so they shouldn't be able to play this game anyway.

Its about time! Man, the leaderboards were a kingdom of modders and standbyers. Now that they are all gone mabe the LEGIT players will have there time to shine, with no modders getting 50 just to be on the leaderboards. thats rediculous. PLAY LEGIT YOU MODDING -blam!-S!

I'm pretty sure Bungie's tired of all you neophytes (newbs) grousing(complaining) like little girls. Be a man and grow a pair balls! You cannot expect Bungie to get rid of cheating just like that. This is supposed to be a unified Halo community, yet no one wants to cooperate. Think outside of the box for a while, and you will find that it's a lot easier to get rid of not just cheaters, but also pussillanimous (cowardly) people that cuss or talk offensively. Still haven't figured it out. Well let me say this first. I was a legit 37, but I got cheated down to a 34 in team slayer.
Cheating = deleveling, stand-bying, modding, etc.
Ok, I really don't care about my team slayer rank; I'm a rumble pit guy. 35 legit! But I pay money to play, and I just want a legit game.

By the way I'm not going to tell you my idea. It's too long. I'll just e-mail it to Bungie and let them post it up. Hopefully.

RANKS NEED TO BE INVISIBLE!!!! I was a legit 31 two days ago and I have been modded and stoodby so many time in the last two-three days it is ridiculous. I would say anywhere between 20-30 times. Bungie needs to ban xbox's not the account, that is stupid. I can get online and get a free two month account for $5 anytime I want to. Banning credit card #'s won't work either, most people have 2-3 cards or more. I am fed up with the cheaters. I was modded 5 out of 7 games last night by different modders!! I have even been modded in training. wtf?? Bungie needs to make the levels invisible to everyone except the owner of the account. However, doing this is not going to stop modders completely so what Bungie really needs to do is think of a way to ban the modders instantly, not hours later. Also wtf is with all the standbyers now, most of that had stopped but it is worse than ever just like modders. I am pissed off because I paid $50 for the game $60 for live and I can't even play a legit game. It is just wasting my time and I don't have all day to play like these little 13 year old kids, I actually have a job and crap to do. Hint to bungie: DO NOT MAKE ANYMORE NEW MAPS, THAT IS FUEL FOR THE MODDERS, STUPID!!!

Hopefully this will discourage cheaters to play legitimately. I noticed several players think we should have invisible stats but then that might discourage legitmate players from playing there best to reach the next level. Competition is part of the game so we cant just make our stats invisible. However I do think a players stats shouldn't be based on individual game types. There should be just one general level a player can reach based on the way they play on any given game type and thats the level they are no matter what game type they play, particularly based on kills being this is the most major factor of the game. This way matchmaking will more accurately match a player with opponents at their true level. Instead of going into a new game type with a level 35 player as a level 15 player and get slaughtered since your both fresh to that game type. Thats not too enjoyable for th players who love Halo but don't quite have their mad skills fully developed.

Hello again I have chilled a bit now. Bungie is still stupid as hell.

It is sad being called a cheater by the modder that has me spawn modded and unlimited sticks. 30 secs into the game he calls me a cheater and I say look at my games and he says he is and calls me a cheater again. This is my tag and its on the 3rd or 4th page atm and if bungie reviewed my games from the last 3 days they would find at least 10 modders.

If bungie would just flat ban anyone played with modders they would fix the problem instantly. I was at a friends house who had a modded xbox and played a lot of games for 2 days befor the bannhammer and I got a 2 day ban i think. I have learned my lesson and don't socialize or play with my friends when their accounts are expiring and they mod eachother up a fuw lvls.

As we first mentioned two weeks ago, the Halo 2 Leaderboards are officially gone from Bungie.net. This is something we've discussed at length for quite a while and ultimately we feel that the Leaderboards are not worth keeping. Unfortunately the leaderboards ended up being a shrine for cheaters and hackers and for the most part did nothing but cause legitimate players pain.

We don't have the resources to manually investigate and monitor every single player on the Leaderboards nor do we feel that is warranted. That is time and energy better spent on creating new playlists and making the core online experience better for everyone. Keep in mind that only a tiny percentage of actual players are affected by the Leaderboards - only 1,000 of several hundred thousand ever make the list. The amount of work required to cater to this small minority compared to the overall return for the community just isn't worth it.

We sincerely apologize to the few players out there who have played hundreds of legitimate games to work your way up the leaderboards. You will still keep your rankings and your stats as a token of your l337 skillz. Unfortunately the reality is that the vast majority of people who do appear on the leaderboards have only got there through some form of cheating.

Your rankings and player stats will remain unchanged and there will be no noticeable difference in Halo 2 other than the absence of the "Top 1000" lists on the Bungie.net stats page.

when there will be no more cheaters bungie will re-introduce the h2 leaderboards???

Nah, I'm sure the leaderboards are gone for good. Not much of a big deal, anyway. I'm sure it took too much effort to keep the Leader Boards alive. Hopefully, we'll see the likes of new stuff from Bungie like Team Hardcore because of this.

(Not likely, but it's nice to be optimistic!)

I like that the leaderboards are gone. I've not gotten modded in about a week only a because i dont have the maps so i dont worry about it anymore. A modder basically told me how to not get modded.NO IM NOT MODDING I JUST HAVE A SECRET WAY OF NOT GETTING MODDED.Now my biggest problem is NETWORK BRIDGERS they are nuuuuuuuuuubzzzzzzzz the thing is to not get bridged u have to get empty boxes when u enter matchmaking which is a waste of everyones time so all i have to say is learn how to bridge just bridge for host NOT TO STANDBYor lag people out, and to get bridged
I play TS with only myself and my friend Dont Miss Twice. WE OWN!!!!!!!
we can play most lvls legit and own them like noobs.
xDASHx Legit 34 Dont Miss Twice Legit 35

Doesnt host BR OWN!!!!!

Good call, Bungie. Stop wasting your resources to stroke the egos of cheaters. And if you got to the leaderboards based on your own solid skill, more power to you. You know you're a badass :)

suggestion, get rid of free trial cards that way a gamertag will have a greater value. that might persuade cheaters to re think using a mod and all that other cheating garbage.

i think that taking away the leaderboards is not a good idea although admittidley it will help with modders not cheating. now our ranks are not displayed and we cannot check our games modders will think as the rank is unimportant they will simply do it for fun. as a legit player i was once a level 33 and i am now a 26 due to modding etc, but as much as i love to play i am less persuaded to play as i will not be able to strive towards my goal of being on the leaderboards, as i always have. now the only way i am going to be able to tell if i am in the top players in the world is to become a stupidly high level, and i only wanted to be able to say i was in the top 500 or something.
modders are PATHETIC if they were really good they should play legit. i owned a modder in head to head an he couldnt mod 4 his life! pmsl @ that.
get the leaderboards back on bungie please!!!!!!!!!!!!! give us something we can look forward to, i have a group of friends and we always have competitions to c who can get to level 30 or 35, i started this with liquid fireball when we were 10's and neither of us thought that we would get past 20, unfortunately after getting to 25 onwards he was succumbed by cheating and at one point tried to mod his xbox and broke it. since then he has been modded to a 50 on that account and has got upto a 40 in t.slayer and i am just as good if not better than him and he cannot play at that level because he will get owned. the leaderboards helped us strive towards that goal and we would always check if we were 1 or 2 games off our level and it helped us.

PLEASE SOMEONE BACK ME UP.................. it ste hulk legit 33 now 26 :(
