Subject: Halo Reach 2 is more likely than Halo 4

Posted by: nofatchicks6921
Why make a Reach addition? The story would only take place between the few days between Reach and CE. Plus, Jun is the only living member of Noble remaining. I think it would be a lot easier to make Halo 4 or Halo: Contact Harvest.

It may be easier to continue the trilogies storyline than Reach's but that is not the point. The point is that if they did continue the trilogy's storyline half of the Halo population would not understand the storyline.

The alternative would be to remake Halo CE,2 and 3's campaigns as DLC for Halo Reach.

That would be a complete waste of 343's time. Instead, put Halo 2 in Xbox Live marketplace, and buy the games there. There would be no point in remaking the campaigns as Reach DLC. The only thing that I would accept would just be refreshed graphics on 2 and CE. And also, we wouldn't know how good or bad the remade campaigns would be since 343 is an unproven developer despite the fact that they do have former Bungie members there.

343 is probably going to continue halo they have made statements hinting this plus a continuation of halo reach storyline would completely stuff up the halo timeline unless they did it from a Spartan II POV although this would make for an extremely short game unless they continued on the story until MC returns to reach because their is quite a lot that could have happened between halo CE and MCs return but it would be a lot more difficult and they would risk making a lot of fans unhappy

Halo Reach 2 = Halo Combat Evolved...

"Some people think they can outsmart me. Maybe. But I have yet to meet one who can outsmart a bullet."

I think you're overlooking the fact that Halo games all have a certain base build of story:
1) The Main, Basic, Story
Ex. Stopping the Halos from being Activated in Halo 1-3, Saving what you can in Reach before the planet gets completely blown to hell.
2) The Overlaying Universe Timeline
Ex. Everything else.

In other words, you don't need to know all the intricate details to get some story out of a Halo game.

When you've tasted excess everything else tastes bland.
The unreal is more powerful than the real. Because nothing is as perfect as you can imagine it. Because it's only intangibles, ideas, concepts, beliefs, fantasies that last. Stone crumbles. Wood rots. People, well, they die. But things as fragile as a thought, a dream, a legend, they can go on and on.

It makes Halo 3 the sequel to Halo 2, yes. But there cannot be a sequel to Halo: Reach, because it is a prequel.

You get me? A prequel of something already made cannot have a sequel. Because said sequel...is already made.

I'd like you to meet my friend The Star Wars prequel trilogy.

Damn someone beat me to it. Oh well.

Did my post get eaten? Hell, here's the gist of it.

Halo 3's ending destroys the status quo of the Haloverse. No more Covenant. The Flood is on ice. The humans are trying to rebuild.

Any continuation of the story from Buck/Halsey/The Arbiter's viewpoint would "start a new fight" - detail what happens to the various factions in this scenario.

Any continuation from the Pov of the Master Chief would start with him being alone and out of the loop for at least the first act. A new goal - discovery of forerunner secrets. A new conflic - new species to serve as antagonists, what have you. Would be expected as a matter of course.

This is all wishful thinking, of course. If 343 were to maintain status quo - which, hell, they probably will - and open H4 with Master Chief getting rescued by the UNSC Dues Ex and sent off to Cappa through Omega Halo's in games 4 through 7, then, yeah, you would have a point.

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

I don't think that you've really got the point. I think less than half of the current halo population have played the entire trilogy and so do not fully understand the original stroyline which is very complex. I think it would be a better idea to make a completely new storyline that does not require one to have played the trilogy to understand the stroyline.

So you want 343i to just say -blam!- the fans who have been around since 2001 and completely remake the story that has spawned one of the greatest franchises in gaming history?

That is a fantastic idea. You lose half of your fans and destroy the story that got the game to where it is. The new generation of gamers seems to care much less about story anyway so why should they be pandered to?

Brains beats brawn get used to it

Fear the Red Comet

Variety is the spice of life.
Long live games.
Death to all fanboys.

I can easily see 343 make a killing by delving more into the Battle of Reach. We've only been in New Alexandria and some barren fields housing some mining structures for the majority of the battle in terms of massive open conflict. There's still other major cities in Reach along with other territories. Reach could possibly be the Halo equivalent to Hoth from Star Wars or D-Day in World War II when it comes to revisiting a battle over and over.

Smerious!

I don't know. Bungie said they want Halo: Reach to be a stand alone project so I don't think it will happen. 343 will probably just make their own spin-off.

  • 10.17.2010 5:38 PM PDT

A Ghosts of Onyx is more likely than both of those.

why doesnt 343 juss make games of the book or another halo wars or continue mc's story fighting the forerunners

Why would he fight the Forerunners?

  • 10.17.2010 5:48 PM PDT

I started with Halo 3. The internet has all the info I need to catch up on the story. Halo 4 will work the same way.

Wassup this is ultrakill74 and i want to call out to all my friends

incorrect, reach was glassed but not entirely the covenant can only glass for about 15 seconds which means that it take many MANY years to glass reach with the small enough fleet they used.

A lengendary data pad stated that with the covenants entire fleet to glass earth or SOL would take 30 years to glass the ENTIRE planet including oceans and poles, so the word glassing for the convenant means carving a ancient word used by the forerunners which represents the planet has been claimed. What the UNSC or ONI didn't know was that the covenant couldn't glass a entire planet so they left Reach, Harvest, Arcadia, etc. to their doom till the war was over. It also means that life does continue on that planet just after a certain amount of time the planet will regrow and whatever refugees left will also repopulate so in terms there is always hope for all the "Glassed" planets.

Meh, I think Bungie did a great job at finishing Master Chief's story. Cliffhangers are always great ways of ending stories. They're mysterious, and since they're mysterious, they bring up conversation.

I think it's a good thing Bungie left with such a cliffhanger, because nobody (except those on the inside) know what was planned. Heh, maybe even the creators don't know what happened to Chief, and they want the community to think of as many possible answers as they can, just to see what kind of stuff the fans can dig up.

Although, I wouldn't mind playing as Kurt in the next game, if it was about Onyx.

Thats when FIRST STRIKE comes into play- play as Red team( Fred, Kelly, Joshua and the other SPARTANS) Defend the generators, attack covenant bases, and uncover the Forerunner structure underneath CASTLE BASE- where Halsey is. Who know maybe we will even get to see what happened to Jun :D

Yeah, MC's story is fine the way it is :) But before Ghosts of Onyx we need a First Strike game right?
