All it took was a stew of whoopass.

I'd keep the old graphics (but that's my nostalgia talking), but I'd also like to see the achievements. And I'd also prefer no online Matchmaking, it wouldn't feel right for me. But online Co-op with friends could be a plus I suppose.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

As long as absolutely nothing changes about it but the graphics.

R.I.P. Halo 2
11/9/04 - 4/15/10

- B( )B

I have a feeling that if they do this, it's going to completely lose the Halo 1 feeling.

The weapons probably won't behave anything like they do in Halo 1, and they will probably forget to add something or they will just be too lazy to put it in. They might even make some unwanted "improvements."

Please Bungie, redeem yourself w/ Reach.
Halo 2 and 3 both stink out loud.
In the immortal words of Mr Horse: Halo 2? No sir, didn't like it.

Not going to get my hopes up yet again. But....

if this happens all I'd like to see is:

- XBL support including Reach's very good netcode
- A map maker (even if PC based)
- The original physics emulated somehow (grenades felt so good to throw)
- And NO changes to gameplay, maps, etc except for uplift in looks.

I'd pay a LOT for this since it would be the only game I'd ever play on the xbox.

~telengard

you forgot medals. I think the only thing missing in halo CE was the multiplayer medals. every other halo since then has had them, so why not put them in?

Totally OK with that. :)

As long as no changes to core gameplay/maps.

Does anyone even look at B.net sigs?

It should still have the same feeling, only in higher resolution, less pixelated and sharper.

Leave the physics alone (Except Grunts should move when you melee their dead bodies.

What about multiplayer?

I can only hope they do an actual 1 for 1 remake of the levels. I like the improved AI from REACH, but they had no Flood assets or AI to my knowledge. Storywise, the Flood is not supposed to very intelligent after initial release in HALO CE. On the other hand, I would like to see them implement some of the combat forms from HALO 3 in a HALO 2 revision.

As an apology for the truncated story in HALO 2, it would be nice to have elements of HALO FIRST STRIKE adapted to gameplay as a new starting point for HALO 2. That could amount to 3 new chapters and 4 or 5 new cutscenes.

BUNGIE AND MICROSOFT FAILS HALO 2 VISTA.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Are we forgetting Halo 1 PC and Custom Edition?

I don't see Halo 3+ODST or Reach for PC, why would they re-remake a game?

Halo CE is already the best Halo IMO, if this was only a graphic remake, maybe with some XBL support I'd but it for sure, and it would truly be the best Halo to date.

Your 'beliefs' mean less than dick to me.

The PC edition was pretty laggy. Most of us have not played Halo CE on any sort of online service so remaking it is a pretty logical decision and the fans obviously want it. I'm surprised it took this long, I don't know who wouldn't shell out for this.

Graphics aren't a big deal to me. They're fine as is, maybe a general touch-up/fresh coat of paint here and there (mainly in the level Halo, to fix some funny hill-lines and give it real sunlight). It wouldn't feel like CE if it was on Reach graphics. Keep all the player/enemy models the same, all guns the same, the environments pretty much the same, etc.

Obviously we need online play. With some kind of matchmaking, however primitive. With ranks, the Halo 3 system would do fine. Have ranked and social playlists. And online campaign, obviously. Forge I don't care about, the Reach forge is more than enough for me. Maybe be able to port custom edition maps over (I have none since I never owned that), though I can see some logistic issues with that.

Bring everything over from the PC version. Fuel Rod, Flamethrower, multiplayer Banshee, the PC maps. Aside from those keep all the original weapons/vehicles. No new stuff. Not even driveable wraiths.

Wouldn't be opposed to having a couple of new maps as well as long as the old ones are kept. Bring Paradiso over maybe? I get a real Halo CE vibe from that map every time I play it. Maybe some other post CE classics/favorites too (Lockout, Midship, High Ground)?

Fix the weapon-in-limbo thing where dropped weapons would twirl in the geometry and make all sorts of noise. Other than that keep all the glitches. :)

Give us medals!! The Halo 3 medal system would be great, I don't like how you get a medal for everything in Reach. The running riot sniper-sword-shotgun medals are cool but other than that no.

Bump the campaign difficulty up just a bit. Or make a new one above legendary (mythic?). Having owned the game for so long I can beat pretty much any level on legendary with my eyes closed, with maybe one legit death per level (couple of fluke deaths here and there). Time for a new challenge.

Skulls would be cool. One per level. Although most of us know these levels like the back of our hand so finding them wouldn't be too hard (hopefully they would take this into account).

Achievements too. An achievement for beating each campaign level on the highest difficulty, bunch of others. Maybe 43 would be a good number?

All I got for now.

Ok. so i got my first xbox the year H3 came out and H3 was my fist xbox game. i loved it so i went back and played Halo:CE and halo 2. I loved them to but i stuck with halo 3. i made some friends who were around to play halo ce when it originaly came out. (by around, i mean they had an xbox, im not seven :P) anyway theyve told me alot about how much fun CE multiplayer was and now im pumped that it might be re-released. I just hope they keep everything the same way it was, new graphics or not. somethin tells me that with new graphics, it wont be the same. i cant really vouch for the original but i hope they keep it the same regardless.

They would change something other than graphics.
Not sure what though. A tweak on the maps, a patch to an old but fun glitch, dialouge not the same... something.
I have the sneaking suspicion if they do they'll try cleaning it up, but end up dirtying it too much.

I really hope they find a way to not alter gameplay too much. I want it to be the same game, just with better graphics. (And some of the 'bad' glitches need to be fixed) I'm sure Frankie knows what we want, and hopefully we won't be disappointed.

Also, I will keep this thread updated as the story progresses, and will post all new information in the OP.

Good players work together...and no matter how good you are, you're not physic. - blade6321

I'm disgusted. There's no reason to remake either Halo 1, or 2 other than to add Achievements, fix minor bugs and possibly add LIVE functionality to them. Let's just assume they can pull this off in a year, much like Bungie did with ODST (Building on a solid foundation, now that the engine is already made). That would be two years (Again, best case scenario) of production just to replay the same games with better graphics. There's no doubt in my mind that 98% of the community believes that Halo 1/2 are the best in the series...but in my honest opinion, it's a gross waste of time and resources. I would much rather play a new game, and immerse myself in a new story than try to relive nostalgia in a simple cash in. I don't believe that 343 will actually go through with this but if they were too, it would just be a let down. That being said, I would not abandon the Halo Universe. I would still go to the midnight release, etc... But to put it into perspective, it would be opening a Christmas present and getting a Wii when I would have much rather gotten a 360 or PS3.

I just want Halo CE on live. How they do it is immaterial as long as they don't change the formula too much.

When I grow up, I want to be just like goofenhour.

Actually, I would do quite the opposite of what they are doing.

I would take the Halo 1 engine, and just upgrade the graphics and networking (to support online play/co-op). I would take the all the original models and just upgrade the looks of them. I would import original geometry of all campaign missions and maps, and re-texture and re-model them (to an extent of just adding more polygons). This way, it will keep the exact same feeling of Halo 1 completely, but just look better.

The End

I can't say I'm surprised, 343 need to do something in the downtime between Reach and their next Halo project, what better way that to prove themselves able, and make a good bit of money in the process, than remastering Halo CE? I am completely skeptical and I'm sure those who grew up with [and might even still be playing, like me!] Combat Evolved, know there is no way they'll live up to the original; no remakes ever do.

How do I feel about this though? I am slightly concerned, though mostly indifferent at this time. The game would probably cut Reach's life span by a year, perhaps two. It is also likely Microsoft will not permit further DLC for Reach from that time, so not to draw the population from their game and also to encourage all of the Reach population to migrate. This could place some pressure upon Bungie, although I am sure they will have something up their sleeve to maintain the interest of their fanbase.

Judging the game on potential merit I'm sure it will be enjoyable. They will need to ensure they do not nerf the CE staples, preserving a 3 shot rifle weapon for example is a must. They should not get away with calling it a spiritual successor, otherwise we'll merely end up with two Reach disks (just for clarification I <3 Reach), each with different campaigns and multiplayer levels. They will need to do it justice, optimising the game for online play, making movement a bit more fluid, refining the graphics but overall preserving everything that made CE, especially in terms of fast competitive play.

The gameplay must remain intact in every way. If they want to give a fresh coat of paint to the graphics (the character models should have the same general look too), fine. If they put in bloom or some other crappy attempts to 'modernize' the game, I would kill the entire company myself.

I mean is it really that difficult? Start with what's already there, update the graphics, give it online play, keep the gameplay, physics, characters, dialogue, weapons, and even some glitches in there for old time's sake. Bungie's already done the grunt work, just don't get too cute for your own good.

  • 10.23.2010 6:23 PM PDT

I agree with all. However games have grown in such a way that two versions of Halo CE could be made. The first being true to original and the second adding all the neat little gazmos... Just a thought.

  • 10.23.2010 11:54 PM PDT

I, for one, would love to see that game in better graphics. Making a new halo game is one thing, but sharpening the look on a classic is another. As long as they only changed the graphics, and not the actual gameplay, id buy the remastered version in a heartbeat! And every halo fan I know has said the same thing.

If they are going to remake this then I want it to be more like the Custom Edition PC version rather than just a shot-for-shot remake of the original Xbox version.

You guys are gullible. Why would this be posted only on a Italian website of all places? And have you noticed the "Halo- Remastered in HD' sign is from Halo Wars? You guys need to get out more.

I never wanted them to remake it. They should just leave the game to rest as a classic, instead of meddling with it. Gladly this is just a rumor, and I hope it does not become a truth.
