Halo 2 was the greatest of the series, I never ventured to multiplayer because I never had Xbox Live for the original, plus I only got into it just before the release of Halo 3, so without a 360 and the game, it was pretty boring. But the Campaign is still as funny, scary and breath-taking as before.
I think this should be a new thing for the Halo series, considering the fact that Combat Evoled IS perfect as it is, but a new perspective of it would be great.
Plus in Reach there wasn't the Flood, so that should make something new for us at least. The campaign is still awesome, and just as right 343 should remake it after the prequal of Reach, why not? It makes sense. Maybe there'll be a Halo 4 (but I really doubt it, there's no where to fit it in), but Bungie have pulled it off before. Halo 3 (and ODST) came out of no where in my opinion and made no clear sense from picking either of them up and playing the storyline after a long time.
If there's no major changes, i.e.: there was no Battle Rifle/DMR or any of the other weapons distingtively new to Reach, the Spike Grenade was as quick to go as it was to be made, Brutes were introduced in Halo 2, and armour changes was newest after H'3 release.
The Forge and Firefight are also highly new, so unless they mix in some of that (OR leave it out), anything goes. The Combat Evolved remake is a brilliant idea and so soon should make even new Halo fans shiver in delight. 343 is an outsider to us and to Bungie; it's literally their game now.
As long as it's not £45, and with multiplayer achievements: it's the perfect game.
