Imagine this: Halo Reach ODST. The game would be about various ODST squads that have been deployed to missions all over Reach
New Weapons: Silenced SMG (like from ODST), Silenced pistol (like one from Reach only with a silencer), Silenced Sniper rifle, Silenced DMR
Note: Un-silenced variants also included
Armor Abilities: Sprint/Evade, Hologram, Jetpack, EMP (disables the HUD of nearby enemies while active)
The game would start out with the first ODST squad. You start inside the UNSC ship (like in Prepare to drop on Halo 3 ODST). You can chose a weapon or two but you're timed so you'd have to choose quickly. Then you go through a drop similar to Halo 3 ODST except without the crash. One squad member gets shot down. Then you land and complete a mission to secure an AI core or something. Then at the end of the mission you have to hold an area and then it's a "To Be Continued" type thing
The next Mission would be another ODST squad shortly after drop with the objective to assault and destroy a covenant base. You destroy the covenant base then evac to a UNSC firebase. Mission End.
Next would be yet another ODST squad aboard a UNSC ship repelling covenant boarders. Mission ends successfully. Then the ODSTs drop onto a covenant ship and throughout the mission various squad members die except at the end only one is left (players character) who steals a covenant banshee and the mission is aborted.
Back to the first squad. Remaining member from the third squad is reintroduced as the replacement for the dead first squad member. The mission is about rescuing and evacuating various groups of civilians from New Alexandria in a falcon. (daytime, not like New Alexandria mission in Reach, More ground based)
Back to second squad. The squad has been deployed on a reconnaissance op in New Alexandria wielding silenced sniper rifles. (night) You assault a couple of buildings then take a position in a partially destroyed skyscraper (no windows or anything and shoot at a covenant camp off in the distance.) Mission ends. Next mission you have to fight your way to the roof of the building you were in at the end of the last mission where you get to control the turret on a falcon. The falcon then gets shot down and crashes into the side of a building. You see a short first person cutscene of the players character looking around at the other ODSTs (some dead others wounded) then theres a loud rumbling noise, and a big red flash of light (covenant glassing the area like in Reach except all ODSTs in squad two die.
Back to first squad. cutscene of a pelican dropping them into a UNSC ship in orbit. Shortly thereafter you find out that an abandoned UNSC cruiser (in low orbit) has had a problem with erasing its navigation core data. The ODSTs make one final jump to secure the core. By the time they are done erasing the data there is only one UNSC ship left in system (UNSC In Amber Clad) The ODSTs find out that there is a longsword fighter and a couple sabre fighters in the cruisers hangar. While the ODSTs are traveling to the hangar, one dies. (cutscene) Mission end. Next and final mission is a space flight mission (like Long Night of Solace) with all 7 remaining ODSTs in ships (2 in each sabre and 3 in longsword) Player is flying a sabre protecting the Longsword and dock with In Amber Clad which then proceeds to make a slipspace jump to Earth
