Yes, I do have a purchased version of the game (I didn't download it). Anyways, I start up Halo, or Halo CE, or Halo Demo (I've tried all and have had no luck w/ playing online), try to search for games online (in the lobby nothing shows up), then after a while a message pops up saying something about how an error of some sort occured w/ gamespy. I don't understand it, why does this happen? Can any of you tech savvy guys help me out? I'd truly appreciate it.
Thanks

Have you downloaded the 1.07 patch? If that don't help you i'm sure someone will give you some advice.

Good luck

Your firewall is blocking Gamespy. Look at the Microsoft KB to find out what port it is.

Are you sure? I just tried turning off my firewall, period, and it let me see some servers, for a little while, and now, it's doing the same crap all over again :-( (sigh)...I dunno what else to do; can you guys suggest anything else?
Thanks

"An error has occured trying to contact the Gamespy Master Server [or something like that]"-->That's the message I get/keep getting; it's pissing me off very much so.

Gamespy, I really hate it..
Try re-installing or uninstalling and installing, or just plain uninstalling Halo or Gamespy might fix the problem. Also, your internet port (2302 or something) might be disfunctioning. Now check your filters, and you have 10% chance your Halo PC will work!

Turning off the firewall doesn't open ports. If you have a router, you may have to portforward, but I don't know how to do that.

I have tried re-installing/uninstalling and I still get the problem quite a bit so often :-(. I dunno wth the problem is! Man, darn it, this is quite infuriating seeing as how I actually paid money for this game. By the way: GameSpy definately sucks big hairy monkey b***s!
:-(
Any more suggestion/hints/ideas guys?
Thanks...

Hmm...well, I haven't got the separate GameSpy Arcade thingy installed, as I thought that it was unecessary to play Halo PC online (plus, don't you have to be a subcribed user to use that seperate stand-alone program)? However, I try to disable my firewall before I play...

Install Gamespy. It shouldn't cost you anything to do so, at least it did not for me.
Hope this helps.

I did, but it still won't work :-(. Man, I don't understand it...anyone? I even tried contacting Microsoft's online team or whatever, and those b-tards have yet to reply to my message...(cry)...I'm not even using any cracks or anything, and I'm still having problems. As I said before, I even paid for this game, so I see no reason for there to be any problems.

I don't really know what else to tell ya. Make sure on your port settings on the game (internet settings) are working with your router. Make sure those ports are operational.
As for Microsoft, Bungie, or Gearbox, they wont help. They never respond to us pc guy's.
We are your only hope.

Oh...Have you downloaded the 1.07 patch?

I find that wireless and Halo sometimes just DO NOT work try it wired to the router.

If it works then that is the problem.

it may be your router. my connection is straight to the internet, and I have gotten that same problem. I just close it out, reboot, and then try again. I didn't have to open up any ports, just reboot. good luck.

To end it all: You do NOT need Gamespy Arcade installed to play multiplayer. I have never installed it and I play...

I'm thinking that it's the router for your dorm. You'll have to figure out how to access the ports on it. Now, I don't know how cool your campus tech guy is with it, but you might be able to get him to open the ports for your dorm. Otherwise, find a nerd and get him to do it. He'll know or figure out how to access the router's setup in a heartbeat, although the password would be the biggest wall to get over.

Since it's more or less a 'public' router, it's sort of a grey area. If you find a way, you'll need ports 2302 and 2303 open for your dorm.
