Only the paranoid will survive!

Now, I know that when I explain this your first reaction will be "You elitist! That's a stupid idea!" But I don't see many real flaws with it. It would be a forum only open to people chosen by the mods. It wouldn't be small- the mods wouldn't need to be very selective, but it wouldn't be open to everyone. You would need to show that, at the very least, you play by the rules. This would help out in many ways. It would give the non members something to aspire to. It wouldn't be out of reach, but it wouldn't be something too easily gained. And once there in, they need to behave to stay in, because a mod could kick them out just as easly as they let him in. So people would be better members, follow the rules and such, in order to get here, and keep doing it to stay. The only problem I see is that for the real spammers they don't care if they stay, but that can't be avoided no matter how you look at it. So don't just call me an elitist please- think about this.

No matter what you do in life, you will disappoint someone.
No matter what you say, you will offend someone.
No matter what you think, someone will think you're an idiot.

Find and eliminate these people.

I don't think it's too bad of an idea, but then again I'm not the mod who has to come on every day seeing an extra 700 PM's all saying "OMG LET ME IN TEH FORUMZ!!!!!!"

Yes, that would be irritating, but perhaps the mods could issue a 7 day PM block from someone? Or mabye it could be an anonymous few members that do the choosing. Bungie will never tell anyone who does the choosing except those who are chosen. You could get an automated PM telling you that you were accepted.

I like it. It would be sorta an expansion of The septagon. A place for us all to talk about everything, but with at LEAST 51% intelligence...

The septagon still has the newer folk here visit and we cna only talk about the 7th column, although we generally expand it to bungie in general.. Just not game related.

I think it would be a cool idea, little hard to maintain but a thumbs up in my book.

I doubt that would stop alot of the people from PM'ing the mods like there's no tomorrow, it's not like they listen to logic or common sense (referring mostly to people in Zanzibar here. Not trying to insult anyone, I'm just saying...).

Although the PM block sounds nice.

Or you could make a group and run it the same way.

Getting people to not PM the mods is the easier part. You could have an automated message sent out when you join saying "Feel free to ask the mods questions, but they are not how to get into said forum. You are chosen by a set of anonymous members! Not the mods! The mods cannot tell you who they are!

And Captain K Mart- No I couldn't. This is more a way to keep members in line. If they are bad, it hurts their chances of getting into this forum. If they are good, though, they have better chances. It will make them think twice about posting that flame or spam topic, hopefully.

I know what you're saying, but I also know some pretty stupid people that would do it anyway.

Well then the mods get a few extra PMs. It's not like they weren't prepared for that when they became mods.

I'm thinking that if they're a bad member then they won't give a damn about getting in or not. This seems like a karma thing. Maybe Achronos can toss this idea in with the others as a reward for being a good member.

Heh. dmbfan- I may have exaggerated. But I'm sure that it wouldn't be too bad if there was an automated PM and perhaps it was stated when someone tried to enter the forum. A message would come up saying that you are not admitted and that the mods don't admit you. But also, you are the mods. You can take some extra PMs. Not 200 more a day, but I don't think five or six would be too terrible. And a bad member won't give a damn about anything. But this might be able to keep a few people from becoming bad members. It would probably make some new ones, but I think the result woulkd be more positive then negative.

I love the idea. It would be really great to have a private forum :).

The Karma rewards DOES sound like the perfect way to implement this. then the mods dont use extra time to choose people OR get unwanted PM's, well MORE of them..

Or, you could just make a group.

  • 10.21.2005 8:20 PM PDT

http://www.bungie.net/fanclub/atticus/Group/GroupHome.aspx

but it would have to be a group made by a bungie dude in order to advertise it on the forum..

And there are soo many members deserving of getting in that the one person in control would be overloaded. SO he would hand out control. And I dont think many would be happy if someone other than like achronos and the mods had power only. If they all even joined. Otherwise arguments start up about this and that.

I think just a private forum would be nice. The group just seems.. odd. and wrong.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Flawed idea

Like u said it elitist. Members of this forum would put themsleves above everyone else.

Why not make a group for you and all your super cool friends.

Cant wait til karma system, cause that post woulda put you down a few..

And the Karma system is leetist too! Those with high awesome karma will do that same thing you just said.

The thing is, its meant for the KOOL good people. Not the jackasses. So I doubt much of that would happen.

  • 10.21.2005 9:13 PM PDT

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

Because there already are lots of groups. The point is that the Private forum would be much larger than a private group could ever be. I don't think you understand his point, the number of people allowed in the forum would be be quite large.

I would like a seperate forum to be one of the rewards for Achronos' fabled Karma system, but there is no way that it would work before the Karma goes into place, it would be way too much extra work for the mods.

Wow didnt think what i said was mean in any way. That last comment was an obvious joke.

I guess theres a flaw in the Karma system right there. Difference of opinion could lead to good and bad.

Aha, but Achronos is smarter than that, he knows that letting everybody be able to give Karma points would not work at all. I am guessing that only mods and Bungie Staff would be able to dispense points. But I think we are getting off-topic.

I thought he said at first only a few could give out karma points, but once reaching a certain level otehr users can do it to. so it stay a mature thing. under control.

I do think having a private forum would be great as a reward when the karma system rolls around. However, right now its just seems like a waste of time because of the ability to create a chapter and then govern it in the same way as the forum. Plus, (right now) it would probably be the mods deciding who would be able to have access to the forum, and its not like they don’t have enough work as it is.

Oh yeah, on the karma system, somewhere I heard that Achronos and the B.net team were trying to get it to run completely automated.
