I agree with VII Toast, but some people do these to make things quick. OMG! = Oh my God Lol! = Laugh out loud. A tip: The longer the post, the less chance the Spam Filter will hit you.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Ok mod let me try.

The spam filter is a problem for everyone, shure its a great way to stop a spam attack, but its annoying for the average bungie member. I hope from thread to thread read what they say and post my 2 cents, but then i get slammed by this retarted filter. It says wait 30 seconds, i wait and click submit, it says wait 30 seconds, i wait and hit submit, I try one last time with no results. I say screw it and dont post.

The spam filter is hurting groups especially. People who dont have all day like the mods do cant be has active cuz the filter hits them when they try participate in threads. So what i am saying is that the filter may be making the mods job easier, but its pissing alot of people off who have no intention of spamming. Its protecting the main forum while oppressing the groups.

I had to get that off my chest.

The filter has never bothered me much. Of course, I've never had a moment where I absolutely had the need to post something within less than a minute. I believe the only time the spam filter bothered me was when it was first implemented and I couldn't edit my post right off the bat without it cutting me off, but that was thankfully fixed.

¶ ooo, I REALLY want that karma system to be here right now...

Dude, I think it was a 50 second timer on each individual post. And its a little longer when creating new posts.

Also, I believe achronos edited it as I used to have to wait an entire 50 -60 seconds after hitting submit, everytime. Now I just have to wait 50-60 from the last time I posted something and it took. So hitting submit repeatedly doesnt matter.

In reality, it takes 2 seconds for me to load a page. And 2 seconds for me to hit the thread I want. On average, 10 seconds to read a small, and I mean fairly small post. And I read fast. Mebe a 4 liner. Then it takes another 2 seconds to hit reply. Then at least 10 to write out a 1-2 sentance reply. Thats already 26 seconds gone bye. But then you think, about other replies that you may read. I dont often go into a thread with 6 replies, read the first, and reply immediately without reading those. It makes you look stupid doing that. So its another 10 seconds for each reply. Then there is the fact your previous post probably wasnt a 2 liner that took a few seconds, and if it was, there is still the 15 seconds to submit it. and sometimes more. So now your well over a minute in time and free to hit the submit button problem free.

The only times you would run into a problem would be when posting something less than 1.2 sentances long or just a quick "lol". If thats all there is, dont post it. Or quote someone, that will knock off an extra 3-4 seconds from your timer for you.

Other than that, only group things would get in the way. For example, creating new posts for a group. If you start a group, there are many stickies you must make, but how often does everyone start a new group? That needs more than 1-3 stickies to begin with? If you do, then just open a new window and watch something on the net, get something to eat, etc. Or go into IRC and chat whilst the time whittles down.

Yes, I have been hit by it in the group situation, but its not that bad. Have you seen any spam attacks since its creation? Just one failed attempt. Thats it. BIG cut from what used to be.

Dont whine about it, its not gonna fix it. Its here to stay. Learn to make better posts, and be PATIENT!!!

Also, I think the 7 new topic counter is for each forum. Cause I made 6 in a group then 2 more in another group then 1 in The Septagon and it didnt stop me in the same day.. So its really not that bad.

Achronos put it together perfectly. Just have some patience and learn to deal with it. ¶

I dont know how fast you type, but i get hit with it sometimes when i know its been longer then 30 seconds.

Its like it lingers on and follows me around.

And this is why everyone needs to make longer, more thoughout posts, so you 'dedicated bungie members' waist all the time inbetween posts actually reading a good post, instead of pushing the submit buttons multiple times.

87 WPM, but I take the time to proof-read my posts as well. That lasts longer than a minute for me because I read over it three or even four times. Even if it is just a short sentence, you want to make sure people will not interpret it the wrong way. It tends to happen a lot.

When I made my septagon FAQ I was somewhat worried that someone would post in between (it took 4 posts/4 minutes to post). Although it is concievable to come up with an example where it hinders users, the benefits outweigh the negatives hands down.

Well since I had like 10 mins to get it right. Just because you don't make a long post doesn't mean you don't post something useful.

I think some people should run a spell-checker or look over their grammar while they are waiting.

In "normal" operation, I never get hit by the anti-spam filter. The only time I do get hit by it (yes, the mods are currently affected by the filter) is when I first enter a forum and open a few questionable threads in separate windows. If I must leave a reply on why it is locked in all of the threads, I get caught by the filter.

It gets a bit annoying, but I was just asking how long it takes till you can post agin.

  • 10.24.2005 8:14 AM PDT

Well, you could have just looked in The Septagon's Frequently Asked Questions thread for that answer:

The spam filter prevents massive spam attacks that consume multiple pages of forums and stops other types of spam too. You cannot post more than 10 topics per day, and you cannot post a topic within 5 minutes of posting a previous topic. You can’t reply within a minute of posting a previous reply, yet there is no limit on how many replies you can make in a day.
10 topics per day actually means 10 topics per 24 hour period. People also seem to think that it is now 30 seconds between posts, but I don't know where that information came from (maybe I missed Achronos posting that somewhere). Anywho... there you go.

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

The specific times are 300 seconds (5 minutes) for topics and 30 seconds for replies. It used to be 60 seconds for replies, but I recently changed it (in the last five minutes or so).

In public forums, you are also limited to 7 topic posts per 24 period. Groups don't have that limit.

Aw, crap. Now I have to fix my post all the while trying to avoid the edit bug. Oh well.

By the way, is there any news on making any of those limits optional in groups?

Edit: It turns out that the question about the spam filter is in my first post which doesn't have the edit promlem. Yes!!
