I've been playing for over a year quite a bit. I have improved drastically. I probably play about 10+ hours a week. I try to play on Bungie servers where I believe there is a level playing field. I need advice in a few areas from anyone willing to comment.

1. Plasma Grenades. It seems that you have to aim a little to the left when you throw them. I feel like people stick me at close to mid range on every throw. I rarely get one to stick even at close range unless I'm right on top of the guy. What's the trick here?

2. Shooting at people in vehicles. It seems as though people take me out very quickly as I drive by in my hog, ghost or whatever. OTOH, it seems like it takes me three clips to take someone down in a hog when I've seem to have registerd about 12 hits or so. Are people actually aiming for my head while I'm in the vehicle? How many hits with a pistol does it take if someone is just hiiting my hog?

3. The Noob Rod. I've tried to piss people off with this but I am not much of a threat with it. I see guys get on maps and kill me with one shot everytime from these. I have to unload like crazy and pretty much need to sneak up on you with it. Guys take me out with a pistol versus my noob rod quite a bit. I notice people jump when they shoot these. I'm guessing a direct hit with this gun is the key. Are they shooting at my feet and splashing the ammo all over me or are they shooting at my head with these. I also know you have to lead quite a bit because the projectile shoots relatively slow.

4. Is there any cheating going on on Bungie Servers? Is it possible?

It sure makes me wonder when one guy has 50+ kills and the next highest guys are in the 20's. I also imagine that lag is an issue. My pings are normally under 100 and when all this crazy stuff is happenning I check pings and they are normally games with most people under 200.

Aby comments and advice are appreciated.

1. You are right about the plasma grenades, in that if you are both strafing in the same direction in a sort of plasma war, the one who will stick the other will be leading off quite a bit in the direction that you both are traveling. This takes practice, but learning to consistently stick people will dramatically change your game. Of course, if you're ever in one of these plasma wars you can change the rhythm by whipping out a pistol or some such and giving your friend a couple bullets to the head.
2. Can't help you with this, I have the exact same problem and have no idea how it works. Making sure you don't go into sharp turns that'll slow you down will definitely help present a harder target, though.
3. I'm sure a noob rod headshot is a one-hit kill, but I don't find it something that you want for long distance sniping per se. Maybe you have been unlucky and have run into the 3 people on earth who can easily pick someone off with a single rod headshot, but the average person is better off using it as an anti-vehicle (rocks against warthogs!) or a base invading weapon.
4. I don't even know what a Bungie server looks like. Does it have a special name? Cuz if it's just Bungie or whatever, it doesn't show on my multiplayer lobby.

Bump to see if I can get some assistance. Anyone else?

Can someone link me to another great forum that may address these battle questions?

First of all there is alot of cheaters on Halo at this time. Bungie servers get their share. I am on the Bungie servers every night and sometimes I am first and sometimes I am not. With the heavy weapons I like to jump and shoot down on my opponents, this seems to be the most effective way. With the fuel rod, when your in the air pop off several shots down to your victim, this should do the trick. People may whine and cry about heavies but like I say, if its on the map use it. A good halo player wont mind, and should be able to handle the situation.
As for plasma grenades its all about timing. If he's stryffing to the right, throw the nade in the same direction but lead a little in the same direction. Kind of like sniping or anything else, you have to time your shots accordingly to the overall ping of the server.
Hope this helps a bit.

See ya in Bungie.

Dont aim for the head with the FRG, cause you will miss. Hitting the ground at their feet will do more damage, and is easier to do.

Killing people out of vehicles is tough. Aiming for the head does do more damage. Just remember that they are traveling fast, and your normal lead when you aim for them.

Plasma nades just have to be practised.

I was afraid the answer might be skill and practice!!!!!!!

I've been playing for so long --------- LOL..

Here's a factor that I haven't mentioned...I'm probably twice the age as the average HALO player, and then some. I wonder if the old reflexes just arent' what they used to be. Works pretty well in softball though.

I guess all those years of Donkey Kong and Tron couldn't prepare me for life on the HALO.

LOL....You and me both buddy. My favorites were Space Invaders, Joust, and Asteroids. Although the advantage we have is patience. (well sort of.)
It does take alot of practice, I play about two hours a night.
Remember.......Headshots, headshots, and more headshots.

Peace.

1) You don't have to aim for the left. Next time you have the pistol and some plasma grenades, toss one, and watch it move in-line with the crosshair (you have to be standing still to see this).

You do, however, need to lead your toss just like bullets, since the grenade does not appear right away like in campaign. Take note that nade don't travel as fast as bullets, so leading will need to be increased as your opponent get's farther away from you.

2) They are aiming not at the hog, but at your body through the open side of the hog. So basically, yes, they are aiming at your head...but from the side that they can get you from. You can't kill a person with 5 shots if you are hitting the windshield.

3) Seasoned halo players are very deadly with the pistol. Don't get so pissed just because you tried to challenge a pro.

Aiming at the feet is key for any weapons with splash damage.

4) Yes, there are various cheats out there. I know that there are mods that let you see though walls, see camoflagued players easily (players with high-end Nvidia cards already have this issue), and many other unfair advantages. Only one working aimbot exists (auto-headshots), but the creator hasn't released the threat to the public (to my knowledge).

Now I'm getting some good info!! Thanks. I was just actuallly doing what you said. Empty server, practice with the characteristics of the Plasmas. They are slow and you have to also aim really high because they drop fast.

Thanks for the time to respond.

hmm. i wrote a tactics guide thats here in tha Maw, if you've never read it (check my sig). Most of this stuff you probably already know, but there's always more to be added. I hope some folks will swing in there and freshen it up.

As for age, that is a factor in shooting. I can't remember when, but there was a study a long time ago that equated Computer gaming teenagers as having higher reflexes and hand/eye coordination that combat fighter pilots. I can barely handle the pistol with the sensitivity set above 7 anymore. Maybe you should adjust your sensitivity ratings to help your "shaking hands". Us old timers gots to stick together!

EDIT: about lag. there is a considerable difference between a player with 33 ping and a player with 99 ping. If you're getting the smack down and your ping is uneven, they may just be down the street form the server, instead of you being a mere two states away. Not much you can do about it, except go tactical; run, hide, be sneaky. You know, all those tricks you learned from your years of experience. Vehicles are your best friends against a low ping player. Heavy weps are a close second.

Keep in mind what you're fighting too. I don't know how many times i've killed people with the MA5B against a shotty only to be called a hacker. Truth is, the shotty doesn't have the range to fight an assault rifle at medium distance. And if they whip out a pistol at short range, close with your rifle and hammer the crud out of them. Be dynamic, keep moving unless you're camping (in some cases, keep moving WHEN you're camping) and don't ignore those heavies. If you''re no good with them and there's little to no chance your team will get to it before you die (worse, you know the rest of your team shuns them), waste the ammo and move on. Better no one has it than to give it to your opponent. But that last is just personal opinion.

I play with sensitivity on 2. I don't have shakey hands, it's just that it's easier to control my aim in a panic this way.

Thats retarted, next theyre gonna start callin rockets the noob tube (rocket tube) The fuel rod gun is basically the equivalent of a covenant Halo1 rocket launcher except it falls like a mortar after going far and the rockets go in a straight line
only difference

Dude, 2 isn't much of a difference from 3, but it's enough for me. I do get torn apart in a tank, but I don't care, because I try to impress the other players in other forms of combat.

Yeah, having a low sensitivity def helps when your under pressure like your both jumping around trying to kill each other with a shotgun, but I'm trying to get good enough that I don't have to even worry about that and just get used to staying controlled with a sens. of 10.

From what I've heard, the working aimbot is out there and it may account for you getting shot out of your hog. It may also account for the fuel rod kills and maybe also the nade sticking– I've never heard of it being used with anything but the pistol and sniper rifle, but it may work with all weapons.

Try keeping hills and other obstructions between you and your pistol poppin foes. Try to have a gunner to shoot back. So many people take off with no gunner. Oh, and gunners: Usually, eyes front– you should kill enemy that we are approaching before we're close enough to get naded, etc.... unless we're taking fire from a hog or ghost behind.

Hey Minus. I usually play on a sensitivity of 8 because when I first started, way back, I felt like that offered the best feel for me as far as looking around and turning around. I really didn't realize what it was doing to me during combat. I've been trying like hell to train myself to be good at that sensitivity setting.

After reading this thread, I tried to do it at 6. I had great improvement. Then i tried at 4. the jury's still out on that one but I think part of my problem (besides dealing with lag) was that my sensitivity was set too high.. I don't know why I never suspected that butt... you know.

I'll keep working! Oh, BTW read your tacticts thread. Thanks for the link and post.

Bad advice, that. the aimbot, I have learned, has a lock on feature. the player does not need to see you for the program to hit you. So they can jump up, pop you in the head, and not thing one you can do about it becasue that hill is in your way. i'm now of the opinion that you need to close with an aimbot to have a chance. Might be why they try to stay away from the big fighting, and prefer bigger maps.

Glad mouse sensitivity changes showed improvment. 6 sounds good to me, but I still like seven: it's fast enough to let me fight well in a vehicle, and slow enough for fine tuned movement. This is personal prefference on my part, and i'm not shy about saying so. i played with 5 once, but got creamed by a plasma weapon officianado. Couldn't turn around to save my life; litterally.

I guess I wasn't clear– I suggested that tactic for when you play against non-aimbot using players– there still are plenty of people who don't cheat but have good aim. Also, if you can get your vehicle behind a hill or base, it can give your shields time to come back up, whether or not your opponent has an aimbot. It's a technique that can help you sneak up on a distant foe to finish him off, as Minus Sign says.

If they have no line of sight, they can't shoot you with a pistol or sniper rifle– when they jump up, they get a line of sight that their aimbot can use, even if it's too brief for an honest player.

Well, it seems everyone's covered all topics but this one. So!

When someone starts a game, they're the only person there. If they stay with the game, and if the gametype allows 50+ kills, they could very well end up with a very high kill number. People who cycle into and out of the game don't show up on the postgame carnage/in-game stats list, but if they are brought down, the death still shows on the killer's kill tally. In other words, what kills you get are yours, even if the person you kill leaves. So people who stick with the game for a duration may very well end up with 50+ kills, because people constantly cycle in and out of games.

Hope that clarified some...

And sometimes, it's just luck. Last night I was in a game and I was doing unusually well at slaying in a CTF game. At one point I had 47 kills and the next highest player had something in the high 20's. I don't consider myself a slayer– I play CTF mostly and conentrate on getting the flag. But last night it seemed like I couldn't get killed and all my shots were hitting.
