Gold Team Rules!

We've all seen the Legendary ending to Halo 3 by now. If you haven't, heres a link to see the video.

The End to The End

The real question is, what really happens to him? What is that distant planet in the background? The covenant home planet? Some Forerunner instillation? Or maybe even something to do with the flood?

I realize, the questions been raised a lot, but i just wanted to see what the community thinks.

The covenant have no home planet, their dreadnought was their capital, the profits (their species name escapes me) are actually a small number who stole the dreadnought from their home world and left with it.

Upon finding the race (name escapes me) that are called elites and brokering a peace with them after a hit and run space based war, the covenant was created where by the elites were the sword for the profits.

all of the other races fell in much the same way, where by they were conquered, Humanity would have been given this option (death or submission) had we not been in some way related to and better able to use forerunner technology.

The covenant's religion which bound all species of the covenant to each other would have been broken or loyalties shifted to humanity, this is why the profits told the species that are called bruits to exterminate the humans on Harvest.

The profits were hoping that we were not as expansive as we were, this is why the war lasted for over 25 years, and caused such a strain on the covenant society. That and the fact that the profits lies caught up with them in the events of halo 2 where the bruits who showed more obedience then the elites did to the profits were rewarded by becoming the new top dog race.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

Given the nature of the final Terminal, Mendicant Bias pretty much tells you he's sending you to the world the Forerunners fled to (after they exiled themselves from the galaxy) so he can prove that he's atoned for betraying them 100,000 years before.

The Great Schism is still going on six years after Halo 3, the Elites are searching for a purpose in life - now that their age old religion means nothing.

ONI are tampering with Forerunner artefacts (The Return hints it's a fragment of Mendicant Bias), Halo Evolutions tells us that the Portal Artefact is still drawing power from somewhere.

The Flood are dormant, though this is not the end of them. As Gravemind put it: "Defeat is simply the addition to time to the sentence I never deserved, but you would impose."

The Prophets are now pretty much extinct, High Charity was the home of the Covenant, so when the Gravemind hosted his little tea party there most of them would have died as the infection spread.

actually if I am not mistaken the profits in the covenant are a small number from their home world, which means that they are not in fact extinct... however should their species make a come back, their role maybe much different, maybe allies to the humans as we have some kind of like to the forerunners?

The profits that may have survived high charity will be in too few numbers to continue on, they were bearly hanging on as it was given their few numbers and strict breeding laws that were in place to control inbreeding...

These laws lead to the political games men ship that allowed for the wrong profits to gain power and deem humanity an abomination when in fact their religion would have had the profits bowing at our feet.

The Stoics chose to remain on their homeworld, years later their planet's star went supernova and it disintegrated.

The Prophets would be too tired to carry on a war, it was only because of Truth that the others were seemingly indictinated into believing in his crucade against humanity. After their history of long and blood wars (Reformist/Stoic war, Sangheili First Contact war, wars inside the Covenant etc), the Prophets will just sit this one out.
