I liked the update, but there was one thing that concerned me. In your tips for utilizing the forge you more or less said it was a negative to construct your map inside a box. I'm concerned because I have a map that I have been costently perfecting and after getting some more opinions from my friends, was planning on submitting it. There's only one problem though, it has a roof. Now i can easily understand why confining the battle space to a box would become a negative espesially with visuals, and while constructing it I pondered many times wether or not to have a roof and eventually i came to the conclusion that the vision I had for the map and the overall design of the map required the roof, and may have actually impacted it negatively if i didn't have it.
I am simply voicing my opinion on the matter and apoligize if you think I am being rude or a smart mouth in any way.

I was actually looking forward to the chart showing how many players reached the cap and where the majority of players are at right now. Did you guys forget all about that?

The challenge tracker is currently somewhere around the area of 26 million challenges completed. So we're still quite a ways away. I had to do the math to find out the general area...

Unfortunately your math is wrong since we don't know how many the bubble at the end of the thermometer counts for. The update said it counted for the "millions and millions" of challenges completed before we knew how to lift the cap.

Wait, what? Just one week ago they said that the 117 million challenges would be completed sometime in November. There's no way that will even be reached in 2010... Otherwise, we got some serious grinding to do.

Don't freak out. Currently, our online engineers project that you're on pace to hit that milestone sometime in November. I'd wager to guess that you'll hit it early in the month, but hey, what do I know? Well, I do know that when you do cross that 117 Million mark, we'll celebrate by blowing the lid off the level cap! In the immediate aftermath, new ranks and armor will be magically available inside The Armory, provided you have the rank and credits required. Time to get to work!"

I didn't know community colleges gave out engineering degrees!

Well..i figured that meter would be a little higher..its gonna take longer than i thought if i had to guess which sucks becuase im currently sitting at level cap waiting anxiously. im not gonna complain though because i absolutly love the scense of community at Bungie and the whole idea of community goals is AWSOME and i would love to see more of it. Also i cant wait for the new maps they look great!

Dude that big circle at the bottom is the insane ammount of challenges we as a community have already completed..therefore the meter will rise according to that scale..so calm down it might still be a while but that thing will come up some each day

I sure hope you're right. If anything they should have made the thermometer a straight line for simplicity's sake. Then, not as much guesswork would be required.

Great update Urk. Some very cool features that you've thrown out there and I'm glad to see the 117 million challenge meter.

The Shadow has covered the Earth like a quilt.. All plants and flowers that were once bright and beautiful have begun to wilt.. This Darkness runs rampant across the Earth.. Anger and Passion gave this creature birth... He thrives in the Shadow, the Darkness continues to grow... The god known as Atonement is no more. He has now evolved into something that once hid beneath the core. He's here to revenge his martyrdom. The Darkness has come...

Right, which counts toward the 117 million. They didn't reset us back down to 0 after announcing what it's going to take in order to raise the rank cap. So unless the bubble is more heavily weighted than the rest of the thermometer, which I doubt it is, then my original math is right. If I'm wrong and the the bubble is more weighted, the current challenge count is more like 32 million give or take a few million. Either way, we still have a long way to go.

So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.

My Best Bungie moment: finally beating all the Halo games on solo legendary.
My Worst Bungie moment: not seeing giant stuffie grunts in the Bungie store.

Nice update, those forge art pics were pretty impressive.

Proud tester of the Halo 3 beta.

Oh God yes, I'm even more excited for Marty and the gang's music piece than the maps!

  • 10.23.2010 2:01 AM PDT

Cool, but any chance we could get a numeric counter next to that thermometer? Interested to see what we're at as a community already.

This is one of the most stupidest reasons I've EVER seen MS/Bungie enforce to restrict a gaming community.
The B ain't been completely right since the ownage.

I think the updates are going to be a little boring for the next year or two. At least I'll have Reach (and these new maps) to be entertaining me though.
Happens with every game B releases

What a hipster.

Great update. Some of those screenshots are fantastic and now I have another reason to blame Stosh. :)
