Absolutly, they are chalk-full of info about the Halo universe and most importantly the story.

I would recomend at least reading Halo: First Strike. It's my favorite of the three anyway. I would read it because it fills in a gap between Halo 1 and Halo 2. Halo: The Flood takes place during Halo 1. It shows familiar battles and all and a few things like whats going on at the Marines base camp and the Covenant's side of the story. But my least favorite of the three. Halo: Fall of Reach is the prequel to Halo 1 and shows the Master Chief in his child hood, his training, the begining of the Covenant-Human war, and the fall of Reach. My second favorite.
