today i have noticed that a few individuals have chosen to leave videogames and Bungie.net forever. This could result into encouraging other members of bungie.net to also leave the forums, possibly causing a downfall in members on this site. this may be an over reaction to the loss of a few members though. post what your opinion on this topic.

ok, nobody seems to care......ok. *goes back to flood*

  • 10.25.2005 6:29 PM PDT

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

sorry but people make threads like that all time in the flood. They do it to get attention. A week or to later they come back like nothing happened.

And true. As sad as it is, no one can resist the hope for a piece of the pie when Bungie dominates the world.

Indeed. They want attention. Also, a few members leaving won't do much. Soon, after a ton of members had left, the oldest members that stayed would become the "Older members", there would be new "Respected members" and so on.

You mean stuff like this?

It happens all of the time, and is hardly worth your time. If it makes you feel any better, I don't think I'll find myself leaving anytime soon. In fact, the only ones I see leaving are the ones who probably aren't the nicest guys in town anyway.

  • 10.25.2005 7:12 PM PDT

"You know what happens when you leave someone hanging for too long? They fall."

*Click* Psshhhhhhhh

That is all perfectly true about the attention craving. My group member Bejay posted something on the flood saying he commited suicide. He also said he had to talk in italics since he died. Obviously he was not dead if he posted, just another way for people to look at him. Theese are what I call LAM LAMs. It stands for: Look At Me, Look At Me. Thats really what they want, attention.

Some may in fact be true. If some one says they are leaving, and give an explanation why (if it's good) they may actually leave. Some one posted they are leaveing because bungie.net was consuming too much of their time, this is a good reason. If they truley left or "died" they will stop posting.

So many people are addicted to the excitement that Bungie brings with the announcement of a new game. Most people on these forums are dedicated to Bungie and don't really care about most of the Xbox360 things. There just isn't a whole lot to talk about on the forums.

Also, i think people are becoming more aware that they shouldn't just sit at their computer all day. So, with that comes the decision of a few to actually do something with their life other than talking with people who you don't even know.

Exercise!

And Bungie, Announce Halo3!

This kind of stuff started happening with the inauguration of the new hotness. Suddenly Bnet was the cool place to be and gave people a way of validating their egos. When intrest in their plights waned they made a last ditch attempt to bring their 'fans' back.

If you see any posts like this, do yourself and everyone else a favor and ignore it.

I remember a certain suicide claim that generated far more concern and discussion than it warranted, which is to say, none.

Suddenly Bnet was the cool place to be.

Always was, especially before the new hotness.

About the "I'm leaving" threads; they hold no certain valuable information and the one who makes a "I'm leaving" thread to get attention, should be blacklisted.

I think you're wrong about this. I mean in most circumstances I might agree but the fact is that this the easiest forum to reach bungie on when you're angry.
I for one often post reviews of people's games on their forums, and I'm more than happy to tell them that I'll never play their game again when it sucks, or something happens that just
causes the game to lose value to the point that it's just not worth keeping anymore.

If game producers do not take the feed back of their users, whatever form it might take, seriously then they are doing harm to their ability to produce games that their users will enjoy.

It's true that most people who post like that are simply self important and seeking attention, but just occasionally you'll find that someone will post an honest critique of the game with reasons why they will not play.

Personally I've come to a point that if the verbal abuse and the cheating gets much worse and there are no real solutions presented I'm getting rid of my XBL account. I won't pay to be insulted and verbally assaulted after work when i'm trying to unwind. Nor will I pay to deal with modders every fifth or sixth game.

I think bungie is doing what they can and most likely all of this will improve. If I didn't think that I wouldnt continue using the service. If it becomes aparent that they are not trying and that nothing will be done you can expect a "goodbye" post from me. I won't be around to see if I was black listed, so it really won't matter.

I don't see any "I'm leaving" threads that refer to the game or the services current state. All I see is attention starved teenagers who make up these kinds of 'justified' reasons to make topics like this. The thing is, no one needs to know if a single person is 'leaving forever.' No one deserves that much attention on a forum and it doesn't contribute at all to the community.

Bottom line, companies don't care about one person ditching the bandwagon. Sales numbers speak volumes and if something needs to improve, the numbers will relfect that. Instead of wasting time with "Game X sucks! I'm leaving forevar!" why not write a more useful topic discussing exactly what you feel needs improvement.

I've seen atleast a few posts by people who say they're considering getting rid of their xbl service and their halo 2 game cd. Most of them listed the same three reasons: too much cursing, profanity, and racial slurs; too much cheating; not enough effort on XBL and bungie's part in resolving either of the previously stated issues.

I understand why they feel the way they do. I don't agree that there hasnt been tons of effort put forward, but regardless if stuff doesn't change when the 360 and/or halo 3 comes out I'll be adding my post to theirs.

I've done that before and most companies could care less. They pay attention to the aforementioned "numbers" rather than the concern of a few users. The sad thing is that great companies of all kinds fall flat because those concerns mount and their number tank after a while. Just ask Disney. They ignored their base and their stock plummetted. No one thought that would EVER happen, but it did.

I don't think bungie's that stupid, but I've been wrong before. I defend bungie and XBL in most debates over online gaming issues. I will be sorely disapointed if I'm proven wrong and little is done to resolve these issues. I don't think that's going to happen though.

My point is, how will you posting that you're leaving affect anything? What will it accomplish other than agitate people? You already know Bungie is doing everything they can to improve things, so why add fuel to the fire?
You said it yourself, if you don't care about getting blacklisted, why would you care enough to announce your departure?

This kind of behavior needs to be encouraged. There are so many morons in this community it would do the forums good.

My point is that if you have a legitimate gripe and you voice it and the company tells you they're doing something about it and nothing is done and you don't speak up

it's your bad.

I believe very firmly that as consumers it is our job to hold those who sell to us accountable for the quality of their product. Bungie puts out a great product so I buy a LOT of stuff from them.

Capcom does not, so I don't buy much of anything from them and when I somehow manage to get one of their products I let them know what I think about it. Whether that's good bad or inbetween.

It's kinda like going to a restaraunt, and getting bad service. If you don't tell the manager how is he going to improve it? If you DO tell the manager and he does nothing about it are you going to walk out without telling him that you don't care for the service and won't be back?

You might. I wouldn't.
