If you don't have any overheating, and you don't notice any more instability in the system (unexplainable errors, glitches, bugs) than before overclocking, then everything should be fine.

It can be good and bad. Overclocking to any amount actually reduces the maximum life expectancy of your processor...imagine burning a candle really bright (overclocked) or burning it really slowly and dully (regular speed). Overclocked gets a brighter light (fast performance) but the candle runs out far faster than the duller (aka slower) candle/processor.

Then again, wax on your processor isn't good either. =D Just kidding.

Overclocking speeds things up for certain. If you go too high for your heatsink, your computer will probably just shut down as the processor overheats..or more likely in AMD, it will melt/smoke. But if you only did it a little, then that isn't gunna be a big deal.

Cheers,
Cr0sS

If you get a BFG vid card, they will even replace it if you burn it out by overclocking! Seriously though, your processors life is probably like 10-15 years. Over clocking might bring it doen to 8-12 and by then it will be time to get a new one.

Yeah, so get a nice heatsink/fan, and some nice Arctic Silver Thermal Paste, then you'll be good to go.

actually, expected life for most processors is 5 years. A consistently overclocked processor can degrade the life of the part to around 3 to 4 years, same as running it with the case open.

My recommendation; don't overclock all the time; just do it when you have to. There are programs that turn overclocking on and off like flipping a light switch. Some more advanced systems can actually do it for you automatically when you start up a process intense program, like Halo.

Don't know much more about it. I don't OC.

If you're worried about heat (and with AMD, you really should) use a program like MBM to monitor temp of your parts. If overclocking si a must for your system, consider buying newer, higher capacity heatsinks.

All in all, I don't recommend it. but its your PC.

I don't overclock my pentium 4 because Dell locked all those kinds of settings. I wouldn't do it if i could anyway.

I stopped overclocking my video card after i opened the case once, and it's heatsink was burning to the touch. Sometimes, you just gotta find out for yourself if you are pushing your system too far.
