Is it just me, or did the campaign just feel like an after-thought?
Yup, it also screamed "unfinished" at ever step. Which is too bad, because it's obvious it had so much potential. There were parts of Uprising that I enjoyed so much I forgot I was playing the Abominarbiter.
I mean, yeah, the multiplayer is fairly good, but the campaign is so boring. The exciting moments like taking out the Scarab take too long to actually finish. But in Halo1, the "30 seconds of fun" was almost always instantaneous. For example, you destroy the fusion cores, you see Foe Hammer die, you get in the warthog, dodge aliens and flood, and barely make it to the LongSword. All of which taking like 10-15 minutes.
However, in Halo2 taking out the Scarab was so bland and drawn out it took at least 5-10 minutes on its own. There's no feeling of desperation.
Nope. And you know that the Scarab isn't going anywhere or going to do anything once it reaches the water. It just sits there, allowing you to rain sniper and rocket fire on the Scarab crew with impunity. It completely destroyed suspension of belief for me, there are a LOT of Halo 2 moments like that.
Had that been a Halo 1 fight, you would have had until it cleared the last bridge to board it. THAT would have been awesome. Pity Bungie has made catering to noobs their top priority.
The humans in New Mombasa were all calm and aggressive. There wasn't any trembling human fear, or anything.
Where the hell did the civilian population of New Mombasa conveniently disappear to? It's not like there was time to evacuate an entire city. Suspension of disbelief shattered again.
There are a LOT of Halo 2 moments where you get yanked out of immersion and it becomes very obvious you are playing a game.
The Tarter Sauce Boss Battle was probably the worst one. It was like Boss Battles 101; "hit him while his shield is temporarily down". Why the hell does Tartar Sauce have this magical shield? Where did it come from? Who cares, just platform around until the Special Conditions Where The Boss is Vulnerable occurr.
You know, if they are going to give the monkey a giant hammer, the least they could do was give us exploding barrels to throw at him.
Other than the voice acting work of the Arbiter, there was no epic feel to anything.
Halo3 better be more of an emotional story. Just about the only emotion Halo2 gave me was "WTF THAT IS SO -blam!-" or my personal favorite, "WTF THE GAME IS OVER, WTF THE GAME IS OVER PLAY AS THE ARBITER -blam!- -blam!- -blam!-"
Halo1 > Halo2
Excitement > Dissapointment
