Since there apparently won't be Halo 2 for PC for a long time, how difficult would it be to take the 10 most popular and/or balanced maps from Halo CE and add them as actual options to play regular Halo for PC? I figure you could release an update, say 1.10 whereby the main file that lists the maps currently available is patched to add 10 new maps. The update would also include the 10 new maps to be downloaded. I figure this would require VERY LITTLE WORK from Bungie as they could simply use maps that gamers have already created, all that would be required is some basic code patching which is already done for updates.

The benefit would be a GREATLY renewed interest in Halo for PC, as well a return audience for Bungie. Quite simply, you would make A LOT of people very happy. If it's a matter of cost and human resources, give us a ballpark idea - we are open to raising the money to pay Bungie to do this little project.

At the very least, could you let us know if this is a possibility or not?

Thank you sincerely,

Bad idea. Bungie'd have to get the permissions from each mapmaker if they want to include them in an official update.

Besides, I'd rather play the maps on CE, with better netcode and slightly less lag.

And wouldn't you rather make a push for H2PC? Why settle for the slice of cheese when you want the full cheeseburger?

Permission shouldn't be difficult to obtain. Simply contact the designers (yes - they CAN be tracked down quite easity). I doubt that a designer would NOT want their creation featured as an integral part of the game.

With CE though - you're lucky to get a handful of people who have the same mappacks to match up to your mapcycle. At best, you're restricted to a close group of friends. Makes it difficult to set up matches, play games on the spot - and quite simply, there's a far smaller percentage of players who participate in HaloCE than in regular Halo for PC.

A big push for Halo 2 for PC? That's like a beggar on the street asking people if they can spare a thousand dollars. He can greatly increase his odds for a donation by asking for a quarter. I'd play the better odds.

How bout a perspective from someone at Bungie?

Great analogy, and I completely agree with you on this front as I really don't care if Halo 2 comes out for PC, since my system probably will not be able to play it anyway. However, I do believe that fixing the lag problems, and instituting a proper kick/ban system would go a lot further to prolonging the life of Halo (though I'm not sure this is what M$ really wants) and increasing the enjoyment of multiplayer in particular, than just adding some more playable maps.

I really gotta go with K putting a map pack in with the next major patch would be pretty easy and cheap. As for CE haveing less lag are you nuts there might be 3 CE servers out there that can run a full 16 player game with out people droping out as opposed to the 600 that regular Halo can handle. Besides alot of hard core halo fans dont like the multiplayer version of H2 because of the changes like no fall damage, homeing rockets, and sniper and pistol changes.

i also agree with K. Putting in new maps for Halo from Halo CE would allow players for a new experience. Most players play just halo and not halo ce. This would make it more fun fore more players to experience different maps and not have to download halo ce just to play them.

The only thing is, though, this is nearly futile. If we're going to make a push, we might as well make it aiming for the bigger prize: halo2pc.

No offense meant, but you've only been here for a few days. You don't know how things run around here. This is bungie's fansite, but bungie NEVER comes here. The closest you'll get is a moderator, but those are simply voulnteers, just like you and I. They're not official bungie employees.

Tear apart their site and their services. I doubt if you'll find some way to get in contact with them. We regulars have been trying for months on end without success. We can't even get bungie to release a patch against the aimbot. I sincerely doubt if they'll suddenly release an update that includes maps.

We do have a way to contact them that may actually be going to the people at Bungie, instead of mods or the webmaster. If you click "contact us" on the nice little toolbar that rolls down the page with the Monitor hidden behind a metal dome on it, you'll get a webmaster's e-mail, tech support, moderator e-mail, and this:

Bungie Studios
One Microsoft Way
Redmond, WA 98052

There you go, a mailing address.

me15ter, maybe if we organized our fellow Maw members and had them snail-mail this address, we could convince Bungie and/or MS to make Halo 2 for PC.

With enough mail sent in, maybe MS will see the market availible. Enough people mailing in will make a difference; I have seen things made or brought down by other large corporations with enough public demand.

Basically, I would like to ask everyone to write a letter to the above address and mail it. If you actually do it, we may make enough of a difference to change their collective mind. How long would it take you to write this letter, maybe five or ten minutes? You could even have someone else mail it for you if you knew they were going to the P.O. or nearby anyway.

me15ter, do you think I should start an online petition and then show Bungie via mail the undoubtedly large number of signatures? It could help turn the tide, too.

If you have actually taken the time to read this, thank you. Now go write a letter!

Halo Custom Edition is having a serious popularity problem right now, about 40-100 people online while 1,000-1,000,000 people are online on Combat Evolved, so it would be a great idea. It should be in an update too, so people don't go "WTF Where do I get "H2 Coagulation??!?!"

There is never a million people on PC, never ever ever. I personaly think that not very many maps if any at all, are bungie quality.

YOU'RE MISSING THE POINT! Keep asking for H2PC until you're blue in the face - that's a project that would cost in the millions and involve a lot of staff. There's already petitions out there - but nonetheless - petitions won't pay for the time and resources to port an entire game to PC. It comes down to the money plain and simple. So unless you can get a million votes on a petition with a $2 cheque attached to EACH one, you're just frustrating yourself.

Adding new premade maps would likely only involve one, maybe two people's time and changing a few hundred lines of code. THAT'S something within reach and if it costs $20,000 - THAT'S also within reach. Remember, Bungie, like any other business, IS IN THE BUSINESS OF MAKING MONEY - plain and simple.

Heh. Why don't you ask one of the mods? I'm sure they'll be happy to tell you...

Ah, but the past is past. If you really can't remember what you've done before, I suppose there's no harm done.

Its not about the money.

It IS about the money. Do not be mistaken.

Posted by: Mr B
Anyone knows that the sales of halo 2 for PC would bring in a hellva lot more than it cost to port it, even start the code from scratch.

Do you have evidence and figures to back this up, or is this strictly your opinion?

Posted by: Mr B
Have you seen the sales for halo1?

I would love to. Pretty please provide us with a reference to this.

Yeah, I don't know what fox did but w/e.
And Freaky's completely right. Mr B,
1. Money is why companies were formed
2. Halo PC might sell more, but companies would make more money with a console. To play Halo 2, you would have to buy an Xbox and Halo 2, a price of $200. And all you would have to do for PC is buy it. People who are reading this have a PC, so..yeah.
3.Halo 1 Xbox=Millions PC=I seriously do not know.
