Ello. I've been playing halo for a few months now, and all the while, never able to create an online server people could join. Keep in mind, i AM able to..

-Join dedicated servers
-Join other user created multiplayer servers

I have my router on these settings.. i only bothered to list the ones i was unsure of. If someone asks for info about it that would help, i would be glad to tell.

DMZ: disabled.
Block WAN Request: enabled.
SNMPv2c: disabled.
WEP: disabled.
Open Ports: 2300 to 2305 ( from previous attempt to make my own game)
DDNS: disabled.

Thats just about all that i can say. If anyone can help, it'll be much appreciated.

I have no clue about how this works cuz i have the same problem and even previously when ive asked the answers did not do anything.

All i am pretty sure about is that it has something to do with the ports. U need to have the right ports open so ur pc can upload info to people who try to join ur server.

Yeah, I figured that too, ages ago, and consequentially fiddled around with my port settings. Anyone else?

Mmm... bumpage.

BUT

New question.

I just got a new laptop.

...
:D

And its running with nVidia GeForce Go 6400.
(PCI-e x 16, 256 mb mem)

...
:D

Pentium M, 2.00 ghz, vaio build. custom bought, though just a tad bit more expensive. Although, a lappy. Meh.

The problem im facing is... one... i still am unable to make a multiplayer game people can join. Which means the problem is in the router, not my comp. I suppose this can be seen as good news... x_x

Two! On my other computer from which i was previously -blam!-ing about my gameplay was running on Intel Extreme Graphics Card. I have the right mind to take this piece of junk out of my tower and shoot it. Repeatedly. The performance i'm able to get on that piece of junk are...heck, lets just do a comparison.

MINI TOWER
60 hz configuration.
Capable of 85 hz configuration
Gamma: 1.0
Brightness: 0
Contrast: 50%
Default Screen Size: 1024 x 768
Configured Screen Size: 1024 x 768
Usual Halo Screen Size: 640 x 480
BIOS = 5.22.02.35.01
uh.. i dont know if this info below matters or not
Operating system: Windows NT (??)
physical mem: 758 mb
min graphics mem = 8 mb, max = 64,
processor = x86??
processor speed = 2491 mhz??

LAPPY
60 hz configuration
Capable of only 60 hz configuration
Gamma:1.0
Brightness:100%
Contrast:100%
Default Screen Size: 1280 x 800
Configured Screen Size: 1280 x 800
Usual Halo Screen Size: 1024 x 768
BIOS = 2897
Memory: 256 mb
pci-e x 16

OKAY

The differences... On my laptop... when i zoom... everything blurrs. Its horrible. x_X i can barely see what im targeting, most of the time... that is, in comparison to my other comp. When i zoom on my other comp, everything is crystal clear, all accross the monitor. Ofcourse, on my minitower though.... i see everyone as white. And pixelated. But atleast they're all white. Whereas, on my laptop, i can see in such detail i can notice the encrusted dirt on my arm. its amazing. ANYWAY anyone know how to fix the zoom problem? If so, please tell me. The other major problem is that night vision sucks. On my other comp, everything works fine.. but on this comp, everything turns bright green and i cant see didly.

Those are my graphics problems. On to sound problems...
On my lappy, i hear everything...
Everything.
Including, someone reloading their pistol, accross the map.. im not exaggerating. Also, because of this, i dont hear shots wizzing by. I only hear the shot, so i dont know if its directed at me or not. Its quite disturbing, since im used to playing without constant gun shots; its like they're right behind me, which usually succeeds in scaring the crappers outta me. Often, i think its due to some weird attempt at sound wave rebounding off the walls, if i hear a shot, it sounds all choppy. And weird. On to sound card stats...

LAPPY
Sound Playback Device: Realtek HD Audio output
MIDI music playback device: Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth
Laptop Stereo Speakers

Sound Playback Device: Realtek AC97 Audio
MIDI music playback device: Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth
Desktop Stereo Speakers

So... why does it act all weird?

Any help is appreciated ^^

Hm...everything looks fine to me, through the specs. Uh...have you checked for firewalls? ZoneAlarm's free trial version has known issues with halo, for example.

Hum. Okay, yes, I AM using ZoneAlarm's free trial version. As for other security stuffs.. AVG Free is up and running 24/7 as well. Question though; If i disable my firewall... and AVG says there are no trojans/viruses/worms/senators in my system, I should be fine, right? I mean.. the worst i can picture is a cookie sending a relay back to some site to download something at a random time, but the likilihood of that is next to none... especially if i run adaware before i play. But honestly, is doing 2 scans and taking down my firewall necessairy? x_X

Anyway. Alil up, to what mjolnir said, that could well be it.. If you mean, not enough power to relay back all the info, i can completely understand that :] and you have just managed to tear the last shred of hope from my grasp. Meh.

Does anyone have any clue about the sound problems? I'm functioning through 2x speakers imbedded in the casing, so i'll try playing with headphones and test the difference in a bit; i'll get back to whoever is reading this for answers on what i find, later.

blur is normal dont worry bout it that only means your card is working the way its supposed to. and yes if you want to start a server you have to take your firewall down. sorry but thats the way it is with most games.

THERE! THAT'S WHY! Zone Alarm Trial'sFirewall has a known incompatibility issue with Halo online. Turn it off each time you want to go online. (I use it myself. Trust me. It dun like Halo.) I think the other firewalls give you the ability to allow halo. If not, turn them off as well.

Relax. Unless someone maliciously tries to hack into your computer (which is unlikely, given the more important computers out there), your compy will be fine. Turn em off at will.

Mmm...
Six malicious attempts to get into my computer in the last week...

Anyway. I tried that, and...
1- Usual gameplay is unaffected.
2- I can create my own games, and i can join them from my other computer, but no one else can join.

Its the uber sux.

As of currently though, my sound problem has been fixed!

I guess my audio hardware accellerator is skrewwy, so i turned it off :[ no more eax though. Oh well. Still have as of yet to test with headphones, due to the fact my mother threw out my good pair and my bad pair are being used by my brother.

'Nother thing comes up. At the beginning, i was raving on about lag and whatnot; taking off ZoneAlarm doesnt help from what i can tell. Few other bits of data to consider...

My average upstream connection is about 215 kb/s ... which is right between the network setting of low and average dsl/cable. Do i choose the higher or the lower? What are the advantages of having higher or lower, if i chose one? Also, if i had a faster upstream connection, say, 512 or somewhere thereabout, what would the advantage be? What does the -use11 command do? What does it matter what port im connected on? How do my port settings affect my gameplay? Do i have to have these ports open on my router for best results? What is the meaning of life?

All answers are appreciated. Except 42. Way too cliché.

Mmm nvm then. I think i fixed most of my problems, a big part of it was my optical mouse, which wasnt responding well to my pad i had it on, thus skipped around every minute or so :]

Thanks for everyone who bothered to post.
