Subject: What is Your Favorite Checkpoint?

There are some great checkpoints/subtitles in Halo. Mine hands down is the checkpoint that you get right before, "Warning: Hitchhikers May Be Escaping Convicts" on The Maw. There is nothing like driving that Warthog down the Pillar of Autumn, volume pumping, things exploding, and turning Elites, Flood, and Grunts into road kill. Absolutely classic. A close second is, "Into the Belly of the Beast" on Truth and Reconciliation. I love that battle. What is yours?

I'd have to say it's "I WOULD HAVE BEEN YOUR DADDY" at the beginning of ASSULT ON THE CONTROL ROOM.

While you're in the warthog during the Maw, right before the big jump, a bunch of flood run out in front of the warthog. Every time we reach that part, I shout out,

"Watch out for children crossing the road!"
just as we hit 'em. Nothing against kids, it's just a good line.

I also like it when it says "Final Run," because that's followed up a truly great segment of music.

Wow, this thread is a lot better than I thought. Personally, I had visions of loads of geeks arguing over which checkpoint in 'The Silent Cartgrapher' was best, 12 or 23.

Everyone is making really valid points about these 'subtitles' and I'll just make some comments on what I think are the best:

Shafted
That section really kicks ass because you got a virtually unlimited amount of Human ammunition and the feeling of cracking those engines is great. The engine room is just laid out so perfectly and the positioning and timing of enemies (Flood or Sentinal) is spot on. That rush to the service lift is always heart-stopping for me and the wait for the lift to reach the top seems endless.

Warning: Hitch-hikers Maybe Escaping Convicts
This is a really good follow up to Shafted as it's most definitely the greatest one-way track imaginable. All those twists and turns, with the enemies hot on your ass really gets the adrenaline flowing. Although the layout of the 'track' seems a little unrealistic (big holes in the corridor 'roof' and Junction 4C holding the entire ship together) on closer inspection, its still a great section.

Final Run
Great beginning with the coming out of the opening to greet absolute carnage. Always good to Fight Covenant and Flood as they fight each other. Then, after all that you get to nick a Banshee and have a burn back to the generator to end things. Difficult to top that really.

Well there's my views, I personally like Shafted , followed by Warning: Hitch-hikers Maybe Escaping Convicts . But that's just me...

...And the horse you wrode in on
the cut scen there is simply one ofthe best cinematic experiences in any game.

The Flood
simply becuase you get to completely murderize thousands of those little infection form bastards, (i called them cancer babies the first time it was funny, i was like DIE YOU CANCER BABY THINGYS!)

WARNING: hitchhikers may be escaping convicts.
simply put, it really was the most irritating thing having to really focus down on my driving to save my ass, now that i think back on it, it was really fun.

Breaking stuff to look tough.
that name was always so cool, it really was perfect for the job at hand.

Flawless Cowboy:
the first time you get to walk around on halo, coupled with saving the marines from destruction, and the fact that by the time i got to this point, i was sold for halo, made this one of my favorite sections.

And i think we all want to know, what the hell does "I would have been your daddy" mean anyway?

It's the first half of the line "I would have been your daddy, but the dog beat me over the fence."

Warning: Hitch-Hikers Maybe Escaped Convicts
This has to be the grandaddy of them all, nothing matches the last chase of the Warthog, escaping through the ship's bowels. Class.

Final Run
Following The Maw closely is Final Run, a class moment as you ascend from the inside. The music blares as you start the huge battles. Sheer class. Good work Bungie.

Ohh, I forgot about "Shut up and get behind me...sir" in Truth and Reconciliation. That is a good one.
