Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

You could just look at the Top Forum Topics for a number of theories on that.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

Given the nature of the final terminal, Mendicant Bias pretty much tells John that he's sending you to the planet the Forerunners exiled themselves to - in order to prove he's atoned for betraying them

The "where in the world" theory is complete BS. For one, 343 Industries don't own the Marathon IP which is enough to say that it will never happen. Time travel is not a plot device in Halo because the developers all hate it.

I know, but there are sub-theories inside of it. And I'm tired of seeing the same thread pop up every fifth day.

I've been prowling around that thread for months now... It has taught me that 9/10 people from this community haven't got a clue about what they're talking about.

The WITW thread is based on the premise that John has gone to the Marathon universe. This is impossible, and the theory is out of date by about 2 years.

Here's the transcript, I'll bold the important bits:
You don't know the contortions I had to go through to follow you here, Reclaimer. I know what you're here for. What position do I take? Will I follow one betrayal with another?

You're going to say I'm making a habit of turning on my masters.

But the one that destroyed me long ago, in the upper atmosphere of a world far distant from here, was an implement far cruder than I. My weakness was capacity - unintentional though it was! - to choose the Flood. A mistake my makers would not soon forgive.

But I want something far different from you, Reclaimer.

Atonement.

And so here at the end of my life, I do once again betray a former master. The path ahead is fraught with peril. But I will do all I can to keep it stable - keep you safe. I'm not so foolish to think this will absolve me of my sins. One life hardly balances billions.

But I would have my masters know that I have changed.

And you shall be my example.

I'm not seeing anything there that suggests Mendicant Bias is sending you to a world the Forerunner supposedly exiled themselves to. That just seems like baseless speculation, to me.

Given other Terminals detailing the Forerunner-Flood war, the Forerunners were not yet capable of travel between galaxies, but built a number of structures outside the Milky Way (loke the Ark).

John is a Reclaimer, Bias clearly states he's using you to prove he has atoned from betraying the Forerunners: "But I would have my masters know that I have changed. And you shall be my example." It therefore makes sense for him to send John to the Forerunners to.

Bias tried to do something similar to this in Contact Harvest when he almost destroys High Charity by launching the Dreadnaught, he says he will bring the Reclaimers safely to the Ark.

His intent has been made clear to have humanity reclaim the fallen empire of the Forerunners and prove that he has changed, having failed twice he had a chance to send John to the Forerunners themselves (as a fragment of him was on the Ark for the 100,000 years following the Forerunner-Flood war, where one of the Terminals state he infiltrated the Portal's systems).

Sorry, but I'm still not seeing any justification for the claim that Mendicant Bias intended to send John to a world which the Forerunner (allegedly) exiled themselves to. It doesn't seem any more plausible to me than any other theory I've seen so far.

I never even thought of it that way...

Can't wait for Halo 4.

So it's more likely for John to be sent to the Marathon universe when 343 Industries and Microsoft don't even own the Marathon IP? More likely that John is sent back in time to Reach for no apparent reason but simultaneously screws up all canon?

It doesn't seem any more likely than those theories. Even if it is, it's still baseless speculation.

It's a thousand times more likely than other theories because Mendicant Bias actually tells you that he's using John as an instrument to prove to the Forerunners he's atoned.

Honestly, I myself believe he is floating towards Onyx.

In Halo Reach, the data pads seem to hint towards discoveries of Onyx, etc. Which could be Bungie's way of saying that is where Halo 4 will take place.

After all a great deal of Bungie employees who worked on Halo CE, Halo 2, and even Halo 3 are apart of 343 Industries.

But this is of course speculation, but an excellent theory if you ask me.
