I would love to see a Halo movie, if done well; and I think that Halo has one thing going for it that sets it apart from most other video games: an engaging and well developed plot. Though the game's storyline is not too involved, the backdrop that Nyberg (sp?) wove it into, in the first book, IS. Also, the book "The Flood" contains a very engaging side-story of the marooned marine expedition that parallels the MC's efforts: Very poignant, very nicely done. This story could easily steal the show from the MC (i.e., the story as told in the game) if treated well.
The only BIG problem I see, from a prospective director's point of view, is: not being able to see the main star's face is a huge disadvantage. It is tough to bond with an expressionless character, and bonding = bucks at the box office. Hollywood is not going to spend $100 million on a movie whose main star you can't see. Therefore, the MJOLNIR suit would have to be changed, and/or MC would have to spend a significant portion of his time out of it. Oh, and another thing: Don't count on the movie being true to the suppressed "testosterone drive" mentioned in the "The Fall of Reach."
If Bungie holds out for a good director to work with, and lays down the law on the acceptable bounds of artistic interpretation; then it should go well. I would not cry about a movie done after the fashion of "Starship Troopers;" but with the CGI effects of Lord of the Rings, and a little better plot and character development. And I do think it WILL happen, because Halo (the trilogy) is a very good story, with good opportunities for plot character development; and Hollywood will kill, nowadays to get even a sort of good story.
