My boy just picked up Halo PC after upgrading some -blam!- on his comp. Whenever he gets into the game he gets to the point on the first level where he talks to Captain Keyes and the game crashes. He gets an error message that says that his video card isn't good enough but he has an Nvidia GeForce 5500. He also got the same message with a 5200 and couldn't get a radeon 9600 to read. The comp is an athlon 950mhz with 392 sdram, brand new 160 GB HDD runningg Win XP Home. Any ideas?

i would sent this exact same message to nVidia or Leoht, here on the boards, but i'd also make sure that... um, wait, who installed the video card? well, just asking cause im only 14 and i can install a video card in like 3-5 minutes.

He installed it, it runs everything else fine but comes up with an error on Halo and only Halo.

Yeah I'd agree with with darth, giv NVIDIA a call, cuz i have NIVIDIA GeForce 4 and I beat the game on single player, so yeah just contact NVIDIA and tell them your problem, I;m sure they can tell you something about it. And next time maybe you should install the video card.

C'mon, now, I'm not that good. I fix people's problems maybe once out of every ten times I try. Nevertheless, thanks for the good thoughts.

EAjuggalo,

If you do in fact have a GeForce 5500, I doubt it's a problem with your video card, as I've known people to run Halo on that card before, with minimal problems. Could you post the exact error message for us?

-Have you updated Halo to the latest version (1.04)?
-Have you tried updating any drivers yet (video, sound, chipset)?
-Also, be sure to have Atialiasing and Anisotropic filtering turned off in Halo's Nvidia profile. I think these settings would have more of an effect on performance (and having atialiasing enabled would prevent Halo from starting up), rather than making your game crash, but it's something else to verify.
