If you do in fact have a GeForce 5500, I doubt it's a problem with your video card, as I've known people to run Halo on that card before, with minimal problems. Could you post the exact error message for us?
-Have you updated Halo to the latest version (1.04)?
-Have you tried updating any drivers yet (video, sound, chipset)?
-Also, be sure to have Atialiasing and Anisotropic filtering turned off in Halo's Nvidia profile. I think these settings would have more of an effect on performance (and having atialiasing enabled would prevent Halo from starting up), rather than making your game crash, but it's something else to verify.
