Have you noticed that the modders are strangely picky when it comes to locking down threads?

I've seen full on abuse and flaming, involving racial and political (usually slagging off Americans about 9/11 or British with the July bombings) connections to stir up trouble. Thing is, one in particular was left 'til like the 100th post (about 1/2 way into page 2).

Then on the other hand, some guy who creates a nice thread just showing is a parakeet in which he's called Halo gets moved in like 2 minutes.

I sometimes think the moderators of this forum like to see where things go with the flaming...

Ya. I have seen that. It went into a full blown racist argument till we asked for a moderator to help. They also deleted anti- racist threads that I saw... Anyone get a strange feeling? I get the feeling that I'm getting Blacklisted again for pointing out some truths... That's the feeling I get for why I was black listed but ya they are... well... odd.

Speaking on my behalf, I try and let people settle issues on their own. A lot of those threads do get out of hand. It doesn't seem fair, in my opinion, to lock a topic because the people who are posting in it don't know how to behave. They do get attention, though.

The posts you see moved or deleted quickly are treated so because they are obviously either off topic or not staying within the forum guidelines.

FYI: This post, and the thread you are talking about, were moved by another person with moderating powers.

Just a question. Aren't the modderators supposed to be official in talk and stuff? If so you might want to change were to was.

I moved your thread to the appropriate forum approximately 10-15 seconds after you posted it.

It's just a matter of when a moderator comes across the post, sometimes they see it right away, sometimes not. Posts about racism and other inflammatory topics typically get more replies and thus grow larger, quicker. They're not kept active for anyones amusement or entertainment, it's simply a matter of when one of the moderators comes across it.

Uh huh. I've seen racist threads not locked at all until everyone started giving the maker a hard time. Shouldn't those be near the top of yalls list?

What "list" are you referring to?

The entire forum is a list of threads, when we find one that needs to be dealt with, we deal with it.

The most I've seen it is in Zanzibar. You locked oe down the other day Ninja. Some threads don't start racist but someone comes in and says something racist. I would look out on Zanzibar more. I've seen threads in which someone shows up and insults religion because of a name of a person. Keep an eye on Zanzibar more.

Gimpy, don't be an idiot. Comparing the wiimote to the power glove is like comparing sex to dieing.

Moderators have lives too, they can't catch everything.

I know it may come as a surprise to you, but no, the moderators aren't actually omnipresent.

Yep. The truth is scary, isn't it?

  • 10.31.2005 4:09 PM PDT

I just think it's odd they miss racist stuff.

Well unless the title thread is in all caps and extremely offensive, I doubt a moderator would notice the thread, especially with all the traffic Zanzibar gets.

Ok. The only people I got that are moderators on PM are Yoozel, who blacklisted me, so I think he wouldn't be to happy and Achronos. I don't know if he keeps the site up-to-date or moderates the forums but I'll try to PM the moderators.

I have a theory that it's easier to complain than be part of the solution.

12 forums. About as many moderators. Thousands of posts a day. Moderators do not have a scheduled moderation time, all their work on this website is volunteer. So, there will be periods in which no moderator is present. And even when there are moderators on, it's entirely likely that a thread, or a post, will get missed. While I'm sure you read every post in every thread and check updated threads every five minutes for new posts, the rest of us are quite human. You'll find that the reason some threads are moved, locked, or deleted more quickly than others, and generally it's related to how obvious it is that they're a problem thread.

Every time somebody chooses to post about other people breaking the rules rather helping out by pointing the offending thread or post to a moderator via pm, a voice in the back of my head screams.

I usually don't lock crappy posts. I delete them. I guess that sorta goes unnoticed with the volume of posts we have.

I think Recon has hit the right spot with his post. And I Blacklisted, I’m happy to hear from any member as long as it doesn’t contain; “OMGZ, u banzored me!1 u r teh -blam!-zorz1!! Blam blam blam…” I look at my PM box at various times a day to check up on Bungie.net when I cannot browse the forums for long periods of time.

Like Recon said, this is a community effort, if the Moderator’s don’t know about it, we can’t offer a solution. So if you see some trash on the forums, point it out quick so the fire can be put out. We’re here to help you by helping keeping the forums relatively clean; the question is… how do you want to help?

Wow, i've never seen 7 Ninjas at one time in the same thread.

I think we do a damn good job for such a small team for such a large community. A lot of us spend more free time on here than we should, but we choose to do it for the community. We work quite well, we're even down a few guys, but once they're back we'll be better covered.

As for elections, no that wouldn’t work… Moderators work behind the scenes, which is why no one ever knows who we select or when we are watching for new Moderators, so it’s best to be on your toes if you’re hoping to one day become a Moderator.

I guess that might be me? Well at least I know I can contact Yoozel. If you want people who are on every five minutes try some mature people you posting all night.
