One of the best things about Marathon is its awesome story. View the insanity inherent in the system.

the BEST game ever, the story line is amazing, and its not a walk through like doom. it takes some skill.

Much of the "feel" can often times be like Halo. Or wait, scratch that. Halo can often times feel like Marathon. So if you liked Halo, you just may like marathon as well!

(playing a netlevel like wizard or longest ffa or oddball will feel eeringly familiar to playing marathon netplay).

The beginning of Oni gave you a small taste of what terminals were like. its a shame they began to phase out at the end of the game, and its a true crime that Halo (or any other modern game) doesn't have terminals as well. There is nothing like conveying story and mysetery through a terminal ( loved the one terminal in marathon2 that was just a bunch of hexadecimal code. converting to ascii just gave random gibberish, but someone realizled that the terminal had exactly 512bytes of information, which was the exact amount used in old bw mac icons. turns outo the random hex code found in the terminal was code for a baclk and white marathon logo!!).

And if you play marathon, be sure to check out netplay. i suggest if you don't have friends an a LAN to go onto AIMS and go to the chatroom "aleph one". Good luck!

And who can forget the first and last terminals of infinity - they contain seemingly random binary that when put in to a file together make a compressed archive containing a multiplayer map called hats off to 819.

Now 8 maps to H on the alephabet and 19 maps to S.

HS = Hamish Sinclair, the guy to runs the marathon story page (link above). Hows that for showing apreciation to dedicated fans :)

I beg to differ. Marathon 2: Durandal is the best game ever made

Its great, but don't take my word for it. You don't have to suck up to the marathon fan's to get their approval. Play the damn game for yourself!

Usually I look at the Marathon Trilogy as one big game since they each continue each other's story, but out of the three Infinity is the greatest.

I'm a Marathon virgin. I just took advantage of the Bungie Store clearance sale and picked up The Mac Sack. I want to play all the games on it but am having trouble deciding where to begin. Everything I hear about Marathon makes me lean toward it first (I've read the manuals for each game on the disc), but I'm intrigued by Abuse's side-scrolling (I love side-scrollers) and the premises of both Minotaur and Pathways Into Darkness.

Also, there's the little fact that I have to work, continue moving into a new apartment, and organize all my crap after settling in said apartment.
Does Bungie have a game that actually stretches and expands time?
If so, I should play that one first.

I suggest you play PiD first, then the Marathons, then Abuse or Minotaur. You should try Gnop out too.

Yah, PiD first. its the even lesser known Bungie FPS. And I believe its the blue crystal that allows you to "stretch and expand" time. :P (pid.bungie.org) And watch out for Muller. he's a wiley one. (PiD reminds me of a dark Indiana Jones adventure). However, its hard as hell. So i see potentially "time sucker upper."

After PiD hit up marathon. I'd personally make sure to read the story pages as you play (finish a chapter, read the chapter, repeat) to fully get the story. Again, this could take a while.

Never could get into Abuse. I dunno why. I just felt it was mindless killing and not any story. Tell me if you enjoy it and I was just missing something.

Minatuar is bada$$. I'm coaxing some of my friends to bring their mac laptops to come over to my airport network so we can play some more Minatuar for "good times sake." Take note though:
1) LANnetwork only game, needing Mac os Classic to play.
2) Requires about 10-15 minutes of manual reading, as well as another 10-15 minutes of "solo" playing to get the controls and understand how the game plays out.
3)Now, You have to get all your friends too also go through the ~20minutes required to learn the game.
4)yell "Apocylpse" and feast in the Battle Royale Carnage that issues! (well worth the trouble, addicting, hilarious, gameplay).

Enjoy your best spent 10(?) dollars of your life :D

That’s the real beauty behind Abuse man! I don’t consider it to be meant for a story, just really, really cool gameplay. Die screaming in pain! Kill loads of horrible alien type things in a variety of horrific manners!

I mean, the tension in this game just drips with horror. Abuse is the first game to ever actually make my skin tingle with fear. Everywhere you go you hear the eerie animal screams and growls of freakish, mutated beasts who are just waiting to hideously mutilate you.

Good stuff.

Gotcha, well, after i beat Infinity and I have a lot of downtime, I'll try and tackle Abuse again. It sucks having a life . . . not enough time to do what should be done :P

Halo is a lot like Marathon, not the other way around. Halo is the new-age glammer crap desensitized for all the 12-year-old trigger happy MasterChief925629 punks who don't know what 'story' means. Marathon is nothing like Halo.
