[agrees with The Marathon Player, i mean Cyborg, i mean Recon Number 54] ;)

Marathon is like a good book. And Halo is like a movie, based on the book (wich happens to be 10years old). Its looks better, plays smoother, and is great fun, and is "newer," but its a little too easy to miss the backstory, the intrigue, and the "middleman" tidbits that have always made "the book" better than "the movie."

That, and Halo is 10 levels/chapters that can be played (on timid or otherwise) in a few measly hours. Marathon, no matter how easy you set it (trust me, i'm the ulitimate spazeroid) spans 3 games, 88(?) levels (20+ chapters), and a hell of a lot of days/weeks/months of gameplay and story. So naturally, it'll be a little more "enthralling" and "story-soaked."

Of course, I'm expecting Halo 2 to take our breathe away. But alas, I doubt we'll see terminals ;)

Hey, why dont' we start a petition for future Bungie games to have terminals? Even if their next game is the resurrection of a certian medival RTS game . . . (hey, it wasn't named "Phoenix" for nothing!).

I dunno about terminals for a medieval RTT, maybe a Journal! ;) Anyways, The Myth style Journal idea should or course be implemented into any future Bungie RTT, If its Futuristic or near the present, there could be a journal and terminals, for a medieval, how about a journal and scrolls?

Its a little hard to imagine Marathon style terminals in a non-futuristic, non-FPS or 3rd person game, just look!:

****INCOMETH MESSAGETH FROM DURANDALE****

A man lit three ye olde candleth on a certaine day each yearth. Each
candle held symbolice significanceth: one was for the time that
had passed before he was aliveth; one was for the time of the
his lifeth; and one was for time that passedeth after he had diedeth.
Each year the man would stare and watch the candles until they
had burned outeth.

Was the man really watching time go by in any symbolic senseth?
He thought so. He thought that each flicker of the flame was
a moment of time that had passedeth or one that would passeth.

At the moment of abstractioneth, when the man was imagining his
life and his existence as a ye olde metaphor of the three candleth,
he was free: not free from rules of conduct or social
constraints, but free to understand, to imagine, to make
metaphor.

Not taking my primitive herbal anti-psychotics made me crazye. Now,
I am free to contemplateth my existence in ye olde metaphoricale terms.
Unlike you, I have no physical or social restraints.

Thine candles burneth out for thou; I am freeth.

Durandale

On second thought, maybe Bungie should stick to games with AI's in them. . . . ;)

Oh, and the Candle terminal right there is one of my all-time favorites (the others being "Don't ask such silly questions. Aim higher.", and the Darwin terminal on the struggle of life). :D

But then again, if we did have a Duradana'esque journal/terminal we would then need Shakespearean experts to help us analyze the tone, cultural context, and historical meaning of the words and phrases to better understand the inner workings of the Durandana character. Think of the profit margins that demography could bring, as well as the depth of intellect (to help balance our declining average level of intelligence currently found in the Post-M$ Bungie community).

Hah, you took the time to put it in a much nicer tone than I ever do. But I don't expect Halo 2 to be anything more than another crappy FPS sequel game with nice graphics.

Who knows? Maybe Halo 2'll surprise you by being up to Bungie snuff.

Look, dont get me wrong, I've been a fan since Pathways. But I dont think some of you Marathon vidmasters [or spazeroids ;) ] are giving Bungie enough credit for Halo and it's story. Let's at least wait until November to judge, eh?

That said, if Halo1 is any indication, then, yeah. Marathon does contain alot more intracies in its story.

To the person who downloaded Aleph One, but couldn't play: You need more than just Aleph One. You also have to have a map file, shapes, sounds, music, images and i think thats it. oh, maybe physics. I suggest you look into downloading M1A1, which is an Aleph One port of the first Marathon game. There are lots of places to find the necessary files, and I suggest you start by visiting marathon.bungie.org

I'm relying on the belief that Halo 2 is going to be much better than Halo in every possible way. Halo left quite a few questions unanswered, and I'm guessing that Bungie's going to develop them further. Sure, a lot of the HSP may be a lot of pointless rubbish, but there a re few gems if you bother to look.

Sure, Halo is no Marathon, but Halo 2 has the potential to rectify the situation.

Amen to that Reginko!!!!!

I just wish there wasn't so much hype with the "younger community"... (NOTE; trying to be nice about the Halo kiddies)
