2 new short stories in each volume as well as new artwork in each? Plus the fact that 343 said they're selling it in two, cheaper volumes rather than the more expensive single version.

It'd probably be about $15 for both volumes together. Not too bad of a deal for 200+ new pages of Halo canon and artwork.
200+ pages makes it a sound like a sweet deal, but I'm still on the fence here. I'll probably end up waiting to hear the topics of the two stories. As for the artwork....meh =/ They'll wind up scanned and floating around the internet soon enough.

I'm pretty sure the artwork from HBO community members was put up on the site somewhere.

In other news it seems like Leviathan (one of said HBO community members who had won the art contest) is reporting that Volume I is already released...

If anyone happens to see or purchase it, it would be nice to know how many new short stories are included.

Edit: Just checked in with my local bookstore and they seem to have it in stock right now. I'll go give it a quick look through tomorrow and give you guys the heads up on what's new and which of the original short stories were included in this volume.

The Razor.

For the honour of the Mirratord.

Let's clear some things up.

The version of Evolutions that has already been released is not any volume number.

Evolutions volume 1 and 2 are reissues of Evolutions, with some new artwork for each story and maybe one or two new stories, but essentially, THEY ARE THE SAME STORIES FROM THE FIRST EDITION OF EVOLUTIONS.

You guys really should research your facts before posting. Franky said that this is what was happening at the Halo Universe comic-con planel.

Volume I and Volume II each contain some of the stories from the full edition already released. However, each volume contains roughly 110 pages of extra content, and new artwork for each story.

Alright I took a quick look see at the first volume. First off this TOR book is tiny as in the size of the original Del Ray Novels in terms of height and width.

Second off (and the sad part) is that there is only one new short story and it's only 4 pages long. It's called "Soma the Painter" and all it is about is said Forerunner painter describing a scene he/she? wants to paint. When Soma is finished it is noticed that an odd anomaly shows up on the painting. Looking out to the horizon an object with a "sickly yellow trail" following it is seen coming down to the planet. That's all there is to the story.

There's a paragraph afterwards of Forerunners discussing the ethics of spying on the populace through every nook and cranny (apparently Soma's paintbrush could send data) and the reports stemming from what is presumably the aftermath of whatever is occurring on Soma's planet. The eventually come to the decision to alert "the Didact". And....that's all. The only real interesting bit of info from that story other than how advanced Forerunner paintbrushers seems to be the fact that Didact is not a name as many of us presumed from the Halo 3 terminals, but rather it's a title.

Wait, did volume one come out yet?

Crap, I have to get it if so.

EDIT: So it's the same size dimension wise as the original TFoR, TF, and FS? Damn it, I like the Tor size!

Yeah about the same dimensions. At a glance it seems even smaller though I haven't had the chance to put them side by side.

Edit: Oh I should probably mention. Soma's planet is G617. The same one mentioned in the Halo 3 Terminals.

The smaller size is the standard for trade paper backs. Most novels start out as hardback and are released as a trade paper back a year later (usually). Some books start off as s trade paper back (books that may not sell a lot, such as a lot of tie ins), but some start off as a large paper back (I.e. the TOR size) before going to TPB later.

"Jesus saves, everybody else takes damage." some gal's t-shirt

http://DanteDreams.com <- my webcomic

think in this new volume or any other work they will make up for the discrepancies between Reach and F.O.R.?

  • 11.06.2010 4:37 AM PDT

......this cant be right surely? Why didnt they just make an evolutions vol. 2 with actual new content?

They have really just plagiarized the hell out of the original book, split it in half added a new story to each and trotted them out for sale? Really? Someone tell me im wrong?

  • 11.06.2010 5:16 AM PDT

Oh come on I just bought Halo Evolutions last week and I'm still reading it. Aww screw it I'm gonna buy something else when I go to Barnes and Nobles today

If Volume I only had about 4 pages of new content, than Volume II must have the other 200 additional pages.

Let's hope so. Volume I has:

Soma the Painter (new)

Beyond

Pariah

Stomping on the Heels of a Fuss

Midnight in the Heart of the Midlothian

Dirt

Anchron VII

Headhunters

and finally The Impossible Life and the Possible Death of Preston J Cole.

So

Volume II will likely have:

Blunt Instruments

The Mona Lisa

Icon

Palace Hotel

Human Weakness

Connectivity

and The Return.

Plus whatever new content is up.

Mona Lisa was like 150 pages though...

Well jeez, that's disappointing to hear. I would imagine it's at least longer than Soma the Painter.

I was in Barnes and Noble today and saw the book, I didn't even know there was a new one coming out! Does anyone know what the stories are about?

Soma the Painter: It is about a forerunner on the first planet where the flood came. It describes her painting a natual occuring event involving two suns when she notices she painted a yellow smear on it and she doesn't know what it is. Also it is revealed that the Forerunners might have fur.

Wages of Sin: It is about the Prophet of Discovery looking back on the covenants mistakes while High Charity is being overun by the Flood. He regrets the switching of the gaurd, the release of the Flood, and the war against the Humans.
