Here is a listing of groups by alphabetical order

You all may remember my other thread saying that I was going to create a list of all of the groups on Bungie.net. Well here is the first step.

Please tell me what you think about it and if you have any suggestions on improvements I would like to hear them. It's a long file.

Since it is such a long file you may wish to search it. In internet explorer you click on the top of the page to make sure it will start the search at the top and press CTRL + F. Then type in what you want to find in the dialogue.

You mention the Marty Army Clan Admn group twice.

Out of curiosity, since I apparently missed your earlier thread on this topic, what do you intend to do with this list?

Good effort, but I'm wondering as to what it's purpose is. It's basically a list by date of founding of chapter names and IDs, the only way to find something specific would be to use find, in which case Group Search would be equally as good. Plus, I can foresee maintenance issues, what with new groups etc. That aside, it is the nearest thing to a Chapter Directory yet.

Now that you've taken the time to look at my sig, I actually regret not providing you with something more worthwhile.

Maybe alphabetize it or something. You could group them by the theme or main point of the group. Good job so far, but is there a specific reason you're doing this or is it just for the hell of it?

First I'm going to add information to it like the amount of members, motto, and group description. I think that b.nets search only allows searching of the group name. Hopefully later I will be able to make a search program.

I like that idea. It may be hard because the only way I can think about doing that is to load it into an array and sort the array. I don't know how large I can make an array in c++, but there are about 11000 groups.

The major difference here is that you are presented with all the groups so you don't have to be looking for something specific to find the group. You can still search it using the find feature. Later you will be able to search group descriptions and mottos.

New groups do make the list somewhat incomplete. It is probably already out of date. After I get it finalized, which will take a while, I will probably update it every other month or so. The most time consuming part is downloading every group home page. It is about a gig of files. I had to computers at my home running through the files and it took them about a day and a half.

Are you sure, did you check every number, specifically numbers 82700 and 81323?

Checking to see if the groups you are in is one of the best things you can do for me. The way I find the name of the group is I find a common element in 2 or 3 different files that occurs before the name and then search for it. Then I read the next characters into a string up until a sentinel character. Since I can't check to see that this works for all cases. Right now I'm having an issue with one group because they enclosed their name in <> brackets. This is written in html as an escape code that starts with &. That happens to be my sentinel so my program stops reading at the < and returns an empty string as the group name. There could be other problems

ODST Recon is 81323
The soccer lovers 82700

Those were already on there, but I'm glad you checked. Make sure you click at the top to make sure the search starts at the top.

Nice job, but on my cpu it freezes up and causes lag, maybe you can turn that into a web page, on the top have like A B C D, alphabetize it so it causes lesss lag and is more organized, but this is a great start, we just have to wait to see what Achronos thinks of it.

The last paragraph of my first post in this thread has information on that. Also, if you are checking to see if a certain group is on my list then go to your group home page and then click on the home button one more time. In the address bar on your browser should be a link in the format:

http://www.bungie.net/fanclub/group_number/group/GroupHome.as px

Look for your group number in the list. Either method works.

I had a little problem with lag. After I alphabetize the list I will definately make it accessible by letter. Great idea. I am also interested in what achronos thinks of it. I was worried that someone on the web team would have noticed that there were 90,000 file downloads from one IP and think someone was trying a DOS attack or something. I guess an extra 90K isn't considered a big increase in traffic for this site.

A member directory sounds like a challenge.

Yea, especially with 1,374,015 members on B.net, give or take some because of deletion of accounts.

Nice job on the Group Directory thing.

You realize that account #'s, just like group ID #'s, are NOT reused dont you?

Account Deletion wont affect the total accounts made #, but it will affect the amount of active accounts. Greatly. There have been TONS of deleted accounts...
