Here are some of my ideas on what could be done to the B.net forums

and make things a lot better and improve the B.net community.

Bungie needs to have one of those "post counter" things that tells how

many posts you have made before and some type of rank system to go

with that to.

There also needs to be a Search system. You would be able to find a

thread by its name or by the user that posted it, This would be

extremely useful so that we wouldn't have to search through pages to

find the thread we are looking for.

Another idea that isn't completely necesary is a Spell checker and

fixer
. This would be helpful to a lot of users who are not good at

or do not want to take the time spelling things correctly. This would

not be automatic though, The user would be able to click a button to

spell check themselves. Even I'm not perfect.

I think that the -blam!- and language filter should be changed, but

not completely scrapped. The user would have a choice whether to turn

it on or off. This would be ideal for older users that don't want

everything that they say to be blocked, or should I say -blam!-ed.

I'm not really sure if this would work, but it's still an idea.

Whoever creates a thread should be able to lock it themselves if they

feel things have gotten to off-topic. I'm not sure if this would

actualy help but it's an idea.

There should also be more spaces avaliable in the forum's polls. A lot

of times, there's simply just not enough and can get very irritating

sometimes.

There should be also a feedback system similar to Xbox Live. This

would help some of the spam and bad users when the mods are not there

to witness it.

Just keep in mind, I'm not trying to complain, but simply make

these forums better. For all of us.

I think all your suggestions have already been suggested. I'll answer a few.

They used to have a post counter, then they quickly found out that it encouraged spam so they scrapped it, forever.

They have been working on a Search Feature that will be here one of these days. Basically it won't suck.

There are Spell Checkers out there for different browsers, but even if people had them they probably wouldn't use them. Like they would be too lazy to change their mistakes.

They are working on a Feedback system as well, but they call it a Karma system. It's supposed to be automated, but I can't imagine how.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

I don't think the Karma system is automated, the mods would hand out points, and then after you have X amount of points you get X reward.

Capatain K Mart did a good job of answering your other questions.

I could swear Achronos mentioned something about the Karma system being automated so members couldn't give other members points. That's all I remember of that fateful day...

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

Well normal members couldn't give other members points, because it would be way too easy to abuse. But I don't think there is any way a script could tell whether or not you were being as good member...

Indeed. I don't think too may of those are new ideas. A post counter would be very bad, as people would see who could get the count to the highest. Thus, posting just to post. Captain K Mart covered it well. And next time, could you please not double space? Thanks!

...if there were no drunkards, we today, would have no hobos...and the world would be a boring place.

1. Never going to happen.
2. Coming Soon(TM)
3. Unecessary, but a good idea.
4. I'm confused. Do you turn it off or on when you're typing a post, or when you are viewing one? The second one makes much more sense.
5. This is a good idea, but I don't think it would be utilized very much.
6. Seven isn't enough? Plus, seven is Bungie's number.
7. I've always thought a "Report to Mod" button would make reporting spam much more easier. This is one of the things I really would like to see.

  • 11.04.2005 8:10 PM PDT

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

Here are a couple things I forgot to mention:
On the old site you could turn the -blam!- filter off, but that was innefficient coding, because information had to go from the server, to the cookie that said whether or not it was on, and then back to the server. Or something like that. Now this was ok when the site only had around 50,000 members*, but Achronos had to improve the code to prepare for the vast onslaught of new users, so it was removed.

Being able to lock your own thread would be kind of nice, but rather unnecessary since people do not want to lock their own threads very often, and if they do they can always PM a moderator. While it would be nice to have (I guess), Achronos has more important things to work on, like the Search.

There are 8 options for a poll Napalm. Once again, while it would be a nice thing to have, I would rather Achronos put that time into finishing the Search and working on the Karma system.

*I made this number up.

This is a good example of Shishka's joke in an earlier topic, "How many bungie.net members does it take to explain something? 21, 1 to explain and 20 to echo the first person"
They were all correct in what they said though.

Heh. Blinx, you just proved yourself right.

And deathstrike, I don't think instant messenger icons should be at the top of his list. I think that a "Report to Mods" button should be though.

This sounds like great ideas though I'm not shure that to cancel the language filter would be a good idea but the other ones are sorta like my post.
I am also not shure what you mean about the points idea

Yes, bungie needs to have one. The forums will collapse without one.

The post counter has been suggested, but not many people know that there was a post counter a while ago. However, it encouraged one word replies, spam, and pretty much anything else that would add to the post count. Achronos said he will never put one back.

find the thread we are looking for.

A search feature is being worked on. There is no need to remind Bungie, because they are already working on it.

They aren't going to rush the search feature. Achronos said, either there will be a good search bar, or none at all.

It isn't necessary. It's why we have the handy "edit" button.

There is no need to emphasize it.

People will abuse the power. Besides, the words that are "blammed" are censored for a good reason.

feel things have gotten to off-topic. I'm not sure if this would

actualy help but it's an idea.

It won't work. Allowing people to only lock their own threads would be a very bugged feature.

of times, there's simply just not enough and can get very irritating

sometimes.

There is no need. If you want extra room, write "other." Besides, I can not express how much I hate it when people make polls with more than, say, 12 options. It's annoying, and it encourages more room for "spam" answers (i.e. instead of a normal "Yes" or "No," the extra room will allow users to say "Kind of," "This is the most l33t thread ever," etc.

Posted by: deathstrike91
There should be also a feedback system similar to Xbox Live. This

would help some of the spam and bad users when the mods are not there

to witness it.

This is a completely original idea no one in the past has ever thought of before.

I've been around these parts for almost eight years now...wow! Maybe I should be concerned about that...

The post counter encourages spam, and if you get a rank for posts, that encourages it even more. They are working on a search and feedback system, but for now you can just PM mods. And there are many spellchecks available for browsers...just like the one I have right now which says "detects no spelling errors". ;-)

I don't see why you had to be a jerk about it. Seriously, he was just trying to help. It's hard to tell if someone's being sarcastic on here, because we don't read how you talk, dip-blam!-.

I'm inclined to agree with The Weas. You could have phrased it a bit nicer, even if it was intended to be sarcastic. I like most of the ideas, but they are small things. I want Bungie to concentrate on larger things. Basically, I think they're good, but not the best.
