Thanks for opening up old wounds, Shock120.
I've never quite understood you. You modify Halo 2 Vista, yet bash Bungie, Halo fans and Microsoft for releasing the game. You do realise that without Microsoft, we would have never had the Halo we love, right? And that includes Halo CE/Custom. Yes, it was wrong for Microsoft to release such a shoddy product, but people bought it right? You included. That was the bottom line for H2V, to ride on the success of the Xbox version and promote the GFWL and Windows Vista platforms, not to promote the game itself. Microsoft has learned a lesson from this though; it flopped big time, and that's one of the (albeit lesser) reasons why we won't see a Halo 3/Reach PC version in the near future.
If you hate Halo 2 Vista so much, just stick to Halo PC/Custom or modify the XBox version. It's practically the same thing, except you can actually modify the game to a greater degree. It's quite a simple option; if you don't like it, stop supporting it, because by modding you are inadvertently supporting the product. Yes, importing new geometry and tags would have been refreshing for H2V, and it would have lived a much longer life than it did, but can't you just let go already?
I looked forward to modifying Halo 2 Vista too, but I gave up on it due to the lacking toolset (if it could be called that). There's a reason why we never got to modify the game, and that relates to the bottom line: money. Microsoft don't want you potentially releasing a new game or importing content from other IPs (because that's how powerful the tag engine system is, as you probably know) out of something you get for a small fee. They want you to play in a walled garden, and that's why H2V sucked, and is also the we have The Forge on Halo 3/Reach, as it effectively negates any justification for a PC version of those titles.
I'm sure there are other, greater avenues available for your talent, so why restrict yourself to Halo 2 Vista? Just move on and stop making these borderline troll posts by bringing up another franchise. Because comparing two games with a release gap of six years (H2V's date doesn't count... it's the same as the XBox version, even so it's still a considerable gap of three years) makes for an effective comparison, right? Most of the community here has moved on from H2V by sticking to Halo PC/Custom or playing H2X over Kai/XBC. Or hell, even playing Halo: Reach.
Me? I've moved on to the SourceSDK, and I'm looking forward to IdTech4's GPL release.
