Like most of the video gaming community i have been de-sensitized to violence to the point of no return and am proud of it.

With the M rating that halo recieved and the same M rating Halo 2 will recieve, I think Bungie should really go all out on the blood and gore. "if your going to get wet, you might as well go swimming"

For example, I for one have always wished that you could grab a shotgun, whirl around the corner in a Blood Gulch base and blow the head off of the nearby enemy waiting for you.

It would also be nice to see wound effects (place damage) like a gunshot wound in an elites skull or a dead marine clearly riveted by assault rifle rounds.or blood splashing up onto the chiefs armor, or the flag, in multiplayer.

and for all you snipers out there, it would be nice to blow at least part of someones face off with a headshot. (don't tell me that the power in the sniper isn't enough to tear someones face off).

Now for some reason, alot of you will disagree with me.... i'm not sure why but it's like it's your job.

so here's a second proposition, once you get a killtacular your shots have the ability to tear limbs and heads off. now tell me that wouldn't be awesome.you wouldn't be more powerful in any way it would just have diferent death animations for your foes.

please don't get me wrong i don't want a quake or anything going on here. I really hate seeing a pistol shot to a dead quake body make it explode as if each player in quake comes with c4 attached to their mid section. I believe with the lighting engine and enhanced graphics, Bungie could really make it look good, where others have failed, they will triumph.

Wow, someone else feels the same way. I definately don't want another SOF2, but some bullet wounds, a leg blown off because of a grenade etc would be great. Halo 2 should be in your face, and elevated gore would greatly add to the feel.

Hell if it was like that there would be new games you could play in MP! Like you shoot a guy with a RL and now you can play body part treasure hunt! that would be awsome!

or in single player u give a grunt a shotgun shell to the fave and u see skull chuncks on the wall behing him, or u just shoot him in the gut and it tears away so u see flesh.

Another thing I'd like to add is this.

you know when you get pissed at an elite for not dying when it was supposed to so once you kill it you start shooting and whacking it's dead body until theres so much blood the game lags.

well 2 things are wrong with this picture

1. blood just surrounds the elite.
2. the elite itself remains perfectly intact.

if i'm blasting a dead corpse with a shotgun i want to see armor shred and chest cavities caving in and i want to hear their freakin bones shattering on my stereo!

Hey Peck are you sure you don't need help? I'm always here to talk. No I can't say I haven't beaten an Elite or Hunter when its down. I'll admit it one of the sweetest things to look at is the carnage you've created after you made your way through an area. Especially the Hunters blood; thats why I kill it with an assault rifle instead of a pistol...more blood. But the limps tearin off is alright only if it looks good and not cartoonish.

When I'm playing Halo, I never think 'this game could use more gore'. It's unneccisary, but if done correctly could be quite cool. If done badly, it could be totally ridiculous.

You're a violent person aren't you?

Anyway, decapitations would be stupid because it says in the books, that Spartans' bones are unbreakable, so the skull will not be able to be ripped from the neck.

ya i agree with kepp, after reading the books and reading about the gore and then easily imagining it because i've played halo so much made it so cool. but then when i played halo i was hoping to see a leg blown off or somthing. but that never happened. so ya that would be cool. but if not, meh, i really don't care.

I think that deformable and damagable armor would be a nice touch, but I think that overdooing the gore would be a bit too gratuitous. There's a fine line between realizm(I can't believe I can't spell that right!) and the cartoony feel that Unreal Tournament has.

blaze 97 this is for you man

The bones of spartans are not "unbreakable".

In first strike several characters like fred suffer from injuries such as broken ribs. just thought i'd point that out

SO DON'T YOU -blam!-ing TELL ME IF I CAN RIP A SPARTANS HEAD OFF OR NOT!!!!

heh heh j/k.

you can shot the flood's arms off and i think heads too...
but it would be so kool to shoot a grunt's arm or head off and see it run around like crazy...
im always throwing stikies on the marines just to see them struggle to get it off anyways.

Hey , but didnt the Spartans jmp out of a Pelican at thousands of feet above the ground? yes they did. and they LIVED. well, most of em. but that bloody impressive still, survving a huge fall wth only the armour. wouldnt it be nice to have jetpacks in halo 2?

i would also love to see some more gore and blood and guts, but too much would be stupid. It would also be cool if you threw a grenade (sticky or frag) really close to some one, and instead of "flying" they partially vapourise from the heat of the blast. Their face and arms etc. kinda melt because of the heat and blast force. It would also be nice when you crack someone in the back of the head to actually see them dead on the ground with a broken neck or cracked skull. Shooting limbs off would also be a very nice touch, the ability to do that to The Flood was great, but now with grunts it would be awesome... I can imagine it now:
using the new AR with the scope.
BAM!
a grunt has lost his arm and is running around with the blue blood coming out of it. Then all the other grunts start going crazy as well.
Ahh that would be awesome!!!
But that's just me...

Not too many of you are commenting on the killtacular idea. re-read my first post for details.

i think it's a good idea.

  • 05.06.2004 9:03 AM PDT

I say leave Halo as it is. I've seen too many games try to change up the original bestseller and end up ruining the entire game. I don't want that to happen to Halo 2.

yes but if you get bullets that tear limbs of at killtaculer then you will get more killtaculars and be invincible.

Please golden elite try to read the posts more carefully.

i clearly said that it would be -blam!- if you became more powerful with a killtacular streak. The only thing that wold change is the shot that kills. instead of the usual death animations, you would be rewarded with blowing limbs and heads off.

i agree with you however, i wouldn't want someone to have an advantage over me once they have a killtacular.

This is a bloody brilliant idea. Maybe a hi/lo gore setting? For the more soft-cocked, i mean, uh... sensibility-inclined amongst us? ;)
Turok had this feature, shoot a dinosoid in the chest with a shottie and you could see straight through him, with the ribs shattered and poking out into a wound the size of a footy...
Turok 2 owned all...until halo of course...

I want to vote against the unnecessary blood and guts. DOOM didn't need copious amounts of gore and it's one of the greatest games of all time. THe same with Halo. Halo is more about storyline and believability. Having one rifle round tear off an arm is a tad much, don'tcha think? Sure, in the American Civil War a musket round to the leg would likely mean an amputation, but even modern firearms don't typically blow a limb clean off. Puncture yes, but even large caliber just means a larger hole. Not quite sure what the damage owuld be on a semi-explosive M6D round, though...

As to explosives, I really, really lie how rockets don't gib enemies in Halo. Most of the damage from rockets and grenades comes from shrapnel and concussive force rather than just the explosion and heat, and bodies flying across the board was just really fun.

Plus, gibs would make Halo 2 a "me too" kind of game. The lack of gibs (outside of the Flood) in Halo really, really made it stand out from any other FPS I've ever played.

  • 05.06.2004 9:13 AM PDT

And remember, if Halo has too much gore, it will be considered -blam!- in Canada. I'm dead serious.
