Lone Wolf Story: http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=50298964&p ostRepeater1-p=1
I will be writing the mission, Lone Wolf, as if it was a chapter in a book. Here it goes.
**NOTE: as some of you may know, I originally posted this in the Reach forum. I found this one and realized this is where to go!
_Noble Six was standing on the hill, watching the Banshees fly by. They had a strange beauty to them; they flew overhead with a magestic dance-like sway.
And the covenant fleet, just overhead, an apocalyptic work of art. In the distance Six could hear the sound of a scarab firing its massive gun. Reach had fallen. He and his companions had lost.
But he wasn't going down without a fight.
He readied his DMR, the elegant weapon of choice for the Spartans. As he made is way down the hill, a phantom landed in the distance. Habitually, he stripped ammo from nearby fallen marines.
He spotted a group of four grunts in the distance. He fired his DMR four times. Each grunt fell with a bullet through its pathetic head.
Another group of grunts emerged--this time there were six, His lucky number. Six shots for six dead grunts. He reloaded.
An Elite appeared out of the dust. Finally, Six thought, a worthy opponent. He unsheathed his assault rifle as the Elite opened fire. He dodged and rapid-fired at the Elite right into the chest. The Elite, with little resistance, died. This was too easy, Six was thinking.
Suddenly, he saw Phantoms land in the distance. Not one phantom, not even two. No, there were at least eight Phantoms dropping troops in the distance. Six made for the hill; he had his eye on the mounted machine gun.
He readied the gun and made sure it had plenty of ammo. He knew he was going down. But, like he was always taught: before going to Hell, make sure it's crowded when you get there.
Hell was about to reach its maximum capacity.
Grunts and Elites emerged from the dust. Without hesitation, Six unloaded his gun on them. As wave after wave of contacts emerged, the Spartan tore through them with his machine gun. For every bastard he killed, two more would take its place. But the Lone Wolf did not faltar. Six maintained his massacre untill finally his turret was out of ammo.
Quickly, Six made for a nearby bunker and reloaded his DMR and assault rifle. He took a quick look around. On the eastern side, there was a half-crumbled wall he could use for cover. On the western side, there was a ladder to the roof. There was also plenty of spare ammo crates in the bunker, as well as grenade racks. Reach had given him the tools to go out with a bang.
The Lieutenant steadied his DMR and fired on aproaching covenant. One by one they fell, and none of them ever reached his bunker. For a full ten minutes, he held off waves of covenant infantry, untill finally his DMR's ammo depleated. He quickly switched to his assault rifle.
Suprisingly less ammo was available for the assault rifle. All together, Six had roughly 200 rounds for the weapon. He glanced at the remaining covenant. Two Elites, six grunts, and a pair of hunters.
Six grabbed a fragmentation grenade and tossed it over the broken wall. All six grunts, within close proximity of each other, fell. One Elite's shields dropped. Six quickly unloaded a clip into the Elite, and the alien fell. The other elite opened fire on six.
The Spartan returned to cover behind the broken wall. His shields were reduced to half. He ran for the ladder in the corner, and climbed to the roof. He layed on the roof, out of sight from the hunter pair.
The Elite, impatient, ran for the broken wall and jumped over it. The alien was expecting to see Six there, but instead he saw nothing. He cautiously walked toward the western side. Unknowingly, he was directly underneath the entrance to the roof.
Six dropped from the entrance, and thrust his dagger right into the throat of the Elite. Now to deal with the hunters.
He had three grenades left. While the hunters were charging their fuel rod cannons, Six threw all three grenades in their direction. Normally, the Lieutenant would never do something as sloppy and inaccurate as that, but the Hunters were very close to each other. And he was running out of options.
Six took cover behind the broken wall. The grenades exploded and injured both hunters. But hunters are just too hard to kill. He sprayed an entire clip into one of the hunters, took cover, reloaded, and repeated on the other.
The broken wall could sustain treamendous damage. It was made of solid lead. But the wall was not invincible, which was how only half of it was remaing. Just like the hunters, it could be destroyed.
Six unloaded another clip into a hunter as he repeated his process. One hunter fell. The Spartan unloaded his final clip, but the remaining hunter did not fall. The beast charged its fuel rod cannon-- aimed directly as Six. The Spartan quickly took out his pistol and fired on the hunter's head. The creature fell, and its cannon did not fire.
Six looked around. He was all out of enemies. Had he won? Had he survived?
Just then, a pair of Elite Zealots crept out of the dust, energy swords ready. And Six was all out of ammo.
One immediately swung at Six, but the Spartan sidestepped and grabbed the Zealot's arm. He punched the bastard square in the face and yanked the sword from his hand. Six quickly thrust the blade into the gut of the Elite.
The other Zealot attacked Six, and the Spartan blocked with his sword. The two subsequently attacked and blocked each other's attacks. After a brief duel, their swords locked. Both were pushing with all their strength.
But Six was stronger. He knocked the Zealot back. The Elite was angry, and ready to pounce.
Six noticed a Spartan Laser nearby. He quickly picked it up off the ground; it charged, and the Laser shot at the Elite in mid-air with a glowing brilliance. The Zealot fell to the
ground.
But it was not over.
Out of the dust, an Elite Field Marshall-- the highest rank in the Covenant-- emerged.
Six prepared himself for the real fight. He checked the Spartan Laser's charge. Empty. He readied his sword.
Six swung at the Marshall, but the Elite was very skilled and experienced with the blade. The Marshall slashed Six's hand and forced the Spartan's sword out of his grasp.
The Elite sidestepped around the Spartan. He was circling Six, ready to strike at any moment. But the Marshall was smart; he knew that the filthy demon would have a trick up his sleeve. He would have to strike at the right moment.
The Marshall spoke in English. "I tread the Blessed Path. The Great Journey is at hand! You and all your kin will fall! Your destruction is the will of the gods! And we are their INSTRUMENTS! You, demon, will DIE!"
More Elite Zealots emerged from the dust and formed a circle around Six. He knew he wouldn't make it out of this encounter alive, so he was going to make sure those bastards didn't either. He grabbed a plasma grenade from his belt.
"I can't die", Six said. "No, Spartans don't die". He activated the plasma grenade. "We're just Missing in Action."

Jun took a good look at reach one last time before he entered slipspace. He had flown Dr. Halsey to a small frigate docked in an abandoned ship yard. The owner was dead, but Jun didn't have enough time to burry the body before getting off of Reach.
And now he was here-- leaving his home that he had fought so hard for. Noble 3 had specific orders from Commander Carter to get Halsey out of the system and into safety. But by now, Carter was probably dead. Something told him that Carter didn't make it to the Pillar of Autom. He wondered if Six succeeded in delivering the package. Maybe he was safe aboard the Pillar of Autom.
But that didn't matter at the moment. He had his orders. Jun took one more look at Reach and entered slipspace.
The war was not over. Humanity wasn't defeated. We can win this, Jun thought, we will win this. We will show those bastards who they're dealing with.
Jun sat down and took a moment to remember his fallen companions. They had achieved the highest honor and sacraficed themselves for all of humanity.
We will remember you, he thought, all of you. We will remember Reach._
What did you think? Please comment.
***Update: I will be writing more short stories in Word, then copying and pasting them onto these forums. My next idea will probably be about Jun after Reach, but I don't know yet.
