That's right. My plumage is brighter than yours.
I've just been witnessing so many people on this forum totally being humiliated, reputations ruined, and many people creating new accounts to ease the pain. Well, I won't let that happen again! Echo is here with a guide to totally not getting pwned in the face! Besides, while spending your eternity here, you'd be better off being liked, right?
Follow the Rules
Do not just join the forum with this air of high and mightyness surrounding you so that you think you know the East and West of Zanzibar. It just won't work out. Actually take the fifteen minutes to read all of the forum and Code of Conduct rules before posting your mindless dribble in the wrong forums.
Just Let it Slide
Just in case you completely blank read the preceding rule, then at least pay attention to this one to not make yourself look like too much of an idiot when this time comes. Let us say that you just posted this completely offtopic thread in, oh, The Underground about, oh, Stubbs the Zombie. Since Stubbs the Zombie has nothing to do with Bungie general discussion or oldschool games, the moderator, oh, Sigma sleep-locks it. Don't get all pissy about it and create a thread about your problem. That'll just make you look like an idiot. It'll also get deleted and/or locked. Let us say that you have thus far read both rules, and you have posted that Stubbs the Zombie thread in The Underground, and you find that it goes missing, here is your chance for a little field work. First, go back through the page to see if your thread has just been kicked back a page. If not, then contact the whichever mod seems to be patroling that forum the most at the moment, and ask about it. If you find your thread locked, then look for a reason to it's locking withing the thread....most mods like to execute you with a toast. If no reason is given, then look back at the beginning of this rule; don't make a whiney thread wondering why 'MY FUKING THRED JSUT GAWT DLETED!!1', instead, just contact a moderator and see what's going on. Tis simple, right?
Private Messaging
While private messages, or PMs, aren't greatly concerned monitoring zones for the moderators, this doesn't mean that you can use it for any simpleminded task you want. Here is a hint: No one likes spam via PM. No one liked spam via anything, actually, but it's alot worst throught PMs because you're building up this person's excitement of having a new message.....and then SPAM! People don't like a PM asking to join this certain group and then hopefully you'd join theirs. People don't like pages of messages that look like this. PMs should also NOT be used for flaming without humiliating youself in a post. Remember the adage: "Getting in an argument over the internet is like competing in the special Olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded". What PMs SHOULD be used for: The kind of things that you might include in an IM with a friend, something stupid or funny that the addressee would like, or maybe just a question that you know the person can answer for you. Good PMs look like this. Bad ones look like this. Comprendas?
Thread Making
To delve into the proper post, we first have to cut through the thread itself. So, let us, again, say that you are the one wanting to make the thread. First, make sure it's nothing stupid, despite what forum it's in. A thread entitled "." with a post body consisting of "HAHa made joo look!" is just stupid....too stupid even for the Flood. Then, rising in properness, comes 'threads that should actually be PMs' and the 'Test Threads'. There are uses for the PM system and Test Chapters, so don't waste bumping space in the forums, jerk! Moving up a tier comes the threads along the lines of 'We got a spammer' and 'I'm going into Zanzibar!'. first off, do you really think a page of spam has gone completely unacknowledged by everyone else? Making a thread addressing ten pages of spam is just.....redundant. It's the thing people go "DERRR!" for. Don't do it. Up a couple tiers comes the threads that seem harmless, but are likely to go out of control or already are a bit on the spammish side......Shorty has been posting a bunchles of those XD
The Proper Post
Rule of thumb: It is not your thread. Ever. Even when you created the thread, even when you sweated blood over your keyboard to create this fiasco, it still isn't yours. The thread is completely and totally the idea of it's post. With that said, keep on topic. No one likes someone to come into a thread titled, say, 'In Memory of Kurt Cobain', and have a bunch of junior Feds coming in and changing the subject to Courtney Love. It's very rude and inconsiderate. If you're coming into a thread to hijack it, at least have the courtesy of telling others not to follow suit. A simple "I don't mean to hijack the thread...." is all you need to say to get in your tidbit without getting the thread locked. Also, NO FLAMMING. It's really depressing for someone to start making fun of someone they don't even know online about liking a certain type of music or for being of a certain clique or whatever. Not only will it make other's like him or her hate you, but also the flamee will likely have a never ending grudge against you, so when you wreck your pinto into a ditch just outside of that certain person's house, don't expect a warm reception. Expect being pelted with marshmellows, and embrace it. You deserve it you bastard.
Sheewwww. That's about all I can manage to fit on here for tonight. Maybe some other time I'll update the list for you all. Echo out.
