I've been a Halo fan and a player for a long time, but there's been one thing that has been bothering me for years and it doesn't really have to do with the game itself. I remember back in 2002 and 2003 when I first became a member of the Halo "community" over on HBO, and Halo was still the only game in the series. In those days, Halo was just Halo. I don't think I ever heard anyone refer to the game's title as "Halo: Combat Evolved". If someone wrote Halo: CE they almost always meant Halo: Custom Edition, the update from Gearbox for Halo PC that allowed you to use the HEK.
Now I'm not saying that no one called it Halo: Combat Evolved back then, but if they did I certainly never noticed it, and I was quite active on HBO and Bungie.net between 2002 and 2006.
In my eyes, Halo is the title and Combat Evolved is a tag line like on a movie poster. You don't hear people talking about "X-Files: The Truth is Out There" or "Alien: In Space No One Can Hear You Scream". It's just my opinion, but it's something that has always bothered me immensely.
What do you guys think? Does anyone have an opinion on the "correct" title for the game? And before people get all snarky, yes I realize this forum is called the Halo: Combat Evolved forum, but I also know that the banner at the top simply says "Halo Forum". Plus if the majority of the community calls it Halo: Combat Evolved then it makes sense to label it as such even if it's wrong. I'm simply asking your opinions.
And also, if anyone can provide any evidence as to what the "correct" title is (actual evidence, not hearsay) it would be greatly appreciated.
