Ok, first problem in most of these statements is people saying Activision owns Blizzard. Blizzard's parent company (Vivendi) purchased Activision, not the other way around. Semantics yes, but kind of an important distinction. Second there is very little to suggest MMO here. If anything the articles linked here would suggest that Bungie has NOT met with Blizzard as Pardo states that if Bungie wanted help, they'd be happy to provide some, suggesting they HAVEN'T asked for any yet, so yeah, no meetings happen (at least going by these linked interviews). Second is that Staten has only mentioned a persistent world that is always there for you. Everyone and there mom knows what an MMO is, so if he meant MMO, he probably wouldn't have said something so open ended. Everyone knows that unless your WoW, the MMO space is hard to make a profit on and a lot of MMO's have died lately. Add that to the fact that Bungie's new publisher already runs one MMO and that they are working on another (Blizzards long ago announced "next gen" MMO) and trying to publish a third would seem like cannibalizing your own market.
A persistent world that's always there for you is a vague description, and I think that's intentional. It could just mean a shooter similar to Halo but with realtime info and stats (or even playable things) from your mobile phone. It could mean a game like MAG where there's always a war going on and you jump in and out when you log in or off. It COULD be an MMO, but this seems like well tread ground, and I'd expect something a LITTLE more unique from Bungie.
