I saw bits of every Star Trek TNG movie, Star Trek VI, and Aliens in that video.

yeah, all that stuff is just another montage..

Having said that, it DOES capture the mood and dark feel of the Fall of Reach.

And if they are gonna make a HALO movie series...they MUST start with the book "Fall of Reach" to explain the background of the Spartan Project, otherwise, it would make no sense to the non-halo fan. Think of when HALO: CE First came out...we REALLY had no real idea on who Chief was or Cortana, or the Covenant or any of that...all we knew was MC was a Cyborg Super Soldier, they were on the run from Alien Forces, and they found this Ring World...
Wasn't until the books came out and HALO2 came around that all the missing pieces started fitting together.

SO...if I were a director (and I work in the film industry, so I know how they would normally plan something like this)..what I would do is:

1st Halo Movie: Fall of Reach...focusing on the book, and thus, the Spartan Program, while leading into the departure of the Autumn during REACH the game.
The opening sequence, however, before the movie Title came around, would be a rough paraphrasing of what happened in Contact:Harvest.

Think of how they introduce the history of "The Lord of the Rings" with Galadriel kinda giving the viewer an "update"...

I would have Cortana give the same kinda narrative update on all the event that happened between first contact and the beginning of REACH, including the Covenant, birth of the Spartan need, Insurrection/Rebellion and so forth.

Then, get into the meat and potatoes...."Fall of Reach" Focusing on Master Chief as a young Spartan...pre-Mjolnir and up until the Autumn initiates Cole Protocol and jumps into Slpispace.

The 2nd Halo movie would be the first Halo game, or the book "The Flood"
3rd would be "First Strike/Ghosts of Onyx"
4th would be Halo 2/ODST
5th would be Halo 3 and probably in two parts.

Anyways...thats how I would run it...

you my friend, are a genuise.

I figured a 5 part series. 2 "seuqels" and 3 main sections.

Halo: First contact.

Deals with the events at the very beginning of TFOR up to the ending of contact harvest. Main plot deals with the spartan-IIs being raised and fighting against innies (the innie leader watts is the main antagonist until first contact at harvest happens). The primary sub-plot involves sgt Johnson, since he was both heavily involved fighting innies (the main bad guy for half the movie) and was a main character on harvest. The movie ends at the same time as contact harvest ends. This also happens to be when the spartans get the Mk IV for the first time. So to make people salivate for more, the last scene is the spartans getting off the elevator undergound and gazing upon the now iconic armor (I realize mk IV isn't quite the same as MK V, but close enough)

Halo: Reach
second movie, deal with the covenant war, and ends with the fall of reach. This is meant to be the most tragic of the films. As it covers the events of the war we see planet after planet burned and billions upon billions of humans killed. The main plot still follows the spartan-IIs. The main sub plots involve the creation of the spartan-IIIs, and the eventual formation of noble team. ANother sub-plot follows Preston Cole and Captain Keyes. These two act as a way to keep the viewer involved with the space battles and the "bigger picture". One of the main goals of the movie is to connect the viewers with as many of the spartans as they can. So when reach finally falls at the end and seemingly every single spartan-II and III (including noble team) except for one are dead, it truly seems like a tragic film. We are introduced to the thel'vadam as he commands his fleet to destroy reach.

Halo: The flood
Follow the events of Halo: CE. Has some massive horror film elements when the flood get introduced. The main sub plots follow Dr. Halsey and red team trapped under Reach. Minor sub plot is from the view point of thel vadam as he attempts to cleanse the human from halo, but the eventual outbreak of the flood and the smarts of cortana lead him to failure.

Halo: The Return
this details how Chief returns to reach after CE and rescues red team/halsey. Eventually they return to earth. Final scenes involve Hood making a rather inspirational worldwide speech as humanity prepares for its final stand in this war. Also, the knowledge gained at halo with the flood is being analyzed by human scientists, and it may be the only thing that can change the outcome of the war.

Halo: The ark

Details the events of Halo 2 and Halo 3. Main plot follow MC and cortana of course. Main sub plots are: The arbiter, blue team/halsey on onyx, and a minor sub plot following Lord Hood as he commands the space battles defending earth. Ends with both the master chief and Blue team lost in the middle of nowhere. Mendez reads the section of poem from the end of GOO.

Yeah, I'd go and see a Halo movie, but I'm not holding any high expectations for it.

Thall.

I'd like to see a Halo: The Fall of Reach movie. Based on the book. I'd like it to look nice, but even if it doesn't. It's a halo movie. Don't care if it's animated or not.

Long time listener,first time complainer.

A movie that shatters canon.I could handle Halo:Reach but a movie
would be a true insult unless the story was heavily observed or corrected by Bungie/Eric Nylund depending on your definition of canon.

I'd love a Halo movie. I wouldn't mind if it was an animation but like very good graphics that it looks real because then it looks stunning and you can do more than live action can.

Live action would be good too.

I would have Halo Wars from the ground persepective. You would have some epic set peices.

Anything Halo would be fine for me! :)

Dark Neptune, a young amateur astronomer whose gaming life is no different from other teenagers of his age, though he controls it more strictly then others.

It's a shame Neil is unable to direct it anymore.

He made District 9 bloody awesome. I mean, I haven't seen a movie character uttered the same 4 letter word as if he's a spoilt tape recorder, or a pig being tossed in the air to actually kill something.

Nononono, the PoV should be from that loosely canon (see what I did there?) war photgrahper, Jake Courage. He could detail the exploits of Master Chief.

  • 11.19.2010 9:40 PM PDT

im sorry but master chief HAS to be on it for me to see

  • 11.21.2010 8:13 AM PDT

Of course . I am the vote #117 =D

  • 11.21.2010 8:40 AM PDT

If they started somewhere new, they might actually be able to make a good movie.

But since its Halo, if they made it, they'd make money, regardless.

When the going gets tough, whine and groan and complain, then post a thread on the flood about how tough the going is and flame anyone who disagrees.

If there was to be a Halo movie, it could not be full live action. The cutscenes in Halo Wars were pretty good looking, and I think that there could be a movie made totally or partially in CGI of that quality. If it were partial live action however, any and all SPARTANs would have to be animated, at least for the armor. (In case you haven't noticed, SPARTAN armor is reaaaally hard to make real-looking. ODSTs and Marines are fine though)

Now, for the plot, I think it should be something bridging the time between Contact Harvest and The Fall of Reach. Then it can be a completely new storyline and leaves it open for sequels is the movie is any good.

Maybe something along the lines of:

One of the major battles to defend one of the Outer Colonies. The UNSC finds an unusual Forerunner artifact that could sway the war to their favor on the uncharted planet they randomly jump to while retreating. They go onto the planet to investigate, but meet a Monitor who is obviously rampant. He sets sentinels and the other defenses on the troops.

When they make it back to their orbiting ship, they find that the crew has disappeared. Then a cloaked Covenant ship has taken them as prisoners of war. With the navigators gone, no nav data (as per the Cole Protocol) and most of the technicians, the ship has no way of getting back to UNSC space, and is stranded for a short amount of time until rescued by another retreating ship. This one however, is a small group of SPARTAN-IIs who are manning the ship by themselves after suffering the same fate.

the two ships join and go to rescue the PoWs on the Covenant ship, (preferably a supercarrier) fight their way to the detention center, and blow the ship up. Then they go back to the world with the forerunner artifact and then the movie ends, leaving room for a sequel.

When is the last time you saw a video game movie that was good? So no.

Edit: Caboose, it wouldn't start with Harvest for the mere fact that even among Halo fans the majority of people haven't read the books. Quite a shame really.

I've realised that I've been expelled from my mother's uterus as if being shot from a canon, towards a barn door covered in rusty hooks and old nail files. It's a matter of how you use the intervening time in an intelligent and ironic way, and try not to do anything dastardly to your fellow creatures.

They should probably make a contact harvest movie, because it shows first contact between humans and the covenant so you don't really need to be a big fan of the series to see it.

Last I heard they didn't want to retell any stories from the games. Infact, in this interview Frankie says they probably wouldn't retell the story from the games, and the movie(s) would be stand alone stories.

Uwe Bol is responsible for most of those atrocities, and he is not a good director period.

I think it would be amazing if it was just Halo CE, 2 and 3 were all made into SEPARATE movies. I don't care if theres not enough background and you don't really know what's going on.... I remember the feeling I had during Halo CE when I was playing it for the first time on Campaign, Legendary. I kind of liked it before Reach, when you DIDN'T know the background. It felt more, new. I was thinking how awesome 343 Guilty Spark and the Library would be in a movie. If they were able to make that as intense as it could get in the game, and make the flood pop out at you on the screen looking so terrifying you scream, that would be insane. But if it does happen then the Hollywood producers would probably mess it up anyways so that it wouldn't even feel like Halo....

Have you guys ever read Mr. Vociferous's script down at Ascendant Justice?

it's by far the best on the subject matter I've ever read.

Long Ass read but worth it.

Aside from the sophomoric and deficient style of writing of the script, it outlines the game for what it is. Boring. It's a video game, I hate being the one to burst people's bubbles, but the reason no studio will fund this movie is because of how stupid and impaired of a story it holds. Having secondary characters speak for the main character makes the story mundane and monotonous. Lifeless at best. When you play the game, all that really occurs is you killing something and the occasional cut scene.

While doing a "producers" skim over the script, the first thing it should have done is catch my attention. Which it didn't. Even if you could re-write the script, it would still lack that main concept that all movies need. Now before everyone starts flaming me for holding a realists view on the matter, and before I start getting called a condescending ass; the only "HALO" related story that holds water, would be the books. But conceptually speaking, they have no relations to the games at all in terms of story, all they took after was the universe of "HALO." They built ontop of lifeless characters, gave them a voice, and put them into a fictional world that was conceptualized by the primary universe. A mundane universe.

If you were to look at all the pseudo live action trailers that have been released for the "HALO" games, you would liken one fundamental reoccurring aspect. Action with little to no dialogue at all. Sure it makes for great scenes, but aside from action, dialogue is what makes up for most of what is characterized in the movie. In movies, actions and words speak at the same level. Most people who I have talked to agree that they would rather have a silent character that represents them for a video game, because they can step into their shoes without having them already filled. This doesn't work in movies.

Let me summarize this for the loons that don't want to read it. There will never be a HALO movie. If there is, it will bomb terribly. There will be over a one tenth ratio to the required amount needed to meet the expenses. No director would touch that script, nor would any studio/distributer.
