It going into the atmosphere would cause tremendous heat, not radiation. Remember, force=mass*acceleration. A MAC round has a lot of both. I found the MAC shot to be disappointing. There should have been a huge sonic boom, and the spire should have been annihilated. A MAC impact is something akin to a nuke exploding in terms of sheer power.

Super heated air becomes plasma. Plasma disrupts Covenant energy shields.

Yeah, their portrayal was very unrealistic.

I don't think plasma disrupts shields for being plasma - plasma WEAPONS disrupt it very well, possibly due to their magnetic bubble which could cause a localised EMP.

Also, an SMAC fires at forty percent speed of light, not 8.

Somewhere on this page I calculate roughly how powerful the shield on the Supercarrier might be. As you can see (whilst talking in rough energy figures), its shield is more than powerful enough to deflect an SMAC round, but hyperkinetic impacts is unfortunately not my strong suit.

I am almost positive that normal ship based MAC rounds are not 500 tons each. That would be insane.

They're not, they're 600 tonnes each, and are 10 metres long.

And an SMAC's rounds are 3000 tonnes each.

No, it fires at point four tenths the speed of light. Nobody knows what that actually means.

I think the most likely is that Nylund originally put 'point four the speed of light' then realised it sounded a bit off, and changed it to 'four tenths the speed of light'. Or the other way round.

But he didn't backspace enough, and we're stuck with 'point four tenths'. It's clearly a typo, it's mathematically and grammatically incorrect.

If it was only 4% and not 40%, then it's a difference of about 100 times in terms of impact energy, and only 400 times greater velocity than a shipboard MAC.
Although at 4%, the energy values required to generate that kind of power are more realistic.

Some can come away from reading "War and Peace" thinking it a simple adventure story, while others can read the ingredients on a gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.

That was also one of the few disappointments I had with the game. I was expecting total annihilation of that tower. I mean it should have been reduced to it's component elements from the force.

I am a monument to all your sins

covenant sheilds can be broken by kinetic energy, not just plasm or emps, theres evidence of this in all the books and games. we have no reason to call this unrealistic when we dont even have any real idea of how energy sheilds work

Or read this. Only theory on it I've ever seen.

Going to redo that thread in a couple weeks.
