Subject: Why do the covenant paint their things so brightly

On a related note, ******'s mom has really nice boobs, and it doesn't take much booze or encouragement to get her to let the puppies out of the pen...if you know what I mean...

I am also wondering what their things are made out of. It seems like they're saying: Hey, where right here for you to kill us.

Purple is quite a dark colour, the white/grey they have on their ships is kind of obvious I suppose, maybe they didn't see the point because they thought they were 1337.

Message me if you want, I will try to get back as soon as possible.

See you on the forums and in the games.

Maybe that's the natural color of the material. Also if I could waste anything I see in a few seconds with a plasma torpedo, I wouldn't be worried about being seen.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

We dont know what Covenant ship armour is made out of, or atleast it hasent been specified in the canon that I can remember of.

< Trick enemy into thinking it's a galaxy...

Maybe they hadn't discovered paint?

  • 11.13.2010 1:26 PM PDT

I don't care. I really don't.

It seems it's the natural colour of the material, and I don't think they'd waste millions of gallons of paint/light bending technology on changing the colour. If they don't want to be seen, they just cloak themselves.

Sometimes being highly visible in combat has an excellent effect: Fear. If you can see something that happened to destroy your army last time, and you see it in the distance due to its high visibility, chances are you won't stick around to see if it does it again.

there much less utilitarian than the UNSC. They like to kick ass while looking awsome, while the UNSC cares much more about just kicking ass, as practically as possible

They are trying to get hit.

  • 11.13.2010 2:03 PM PDT

So that they can camouflage easily. Truly Bungie designed the covenant that way because colors like purple are alien like.

I am...whimsical today.

Maybe their eyes see colors differently, and the colors they use are actually really dark to them.
This is what I was going with.

Our own visible spectrum seems to stem from the fact that it's also the peak output of our sun. There's more light coming from the sun in the visible wavelengths than there are others, so our eyes have adapted to make use of the most abundant wavelengths.

Covenant are aliens. Their technology and colors are what they are to convey the fact that they are aliens. Example: We don't have purple anything, but Covenant have purple everything because they are wierd alien people who don't think like we do.

This is a no brainer, I mean come on you guys. Its because Prince designed the covenant ships, and weapons.

This probably the best answer, though....

That was my thought exactly. Most of the Covenant may be humanoid in shape, but they're still aliens of which we know close to nothing of their anatomy. Only that they are tasty for the Flood.

A large part of the covenant military strategy is taking the enemy off guard by how alien they are, so large purple ships would probably be part of this.

The covenant is the most powerful space fighting force known in the galaxy. For them, fear trumps stealth, and anyways, when they want stealth, they can just use cloaking technology instead of having to rely on archaic paint-based camouflage.

im pretty sure its not paint, its just the colour of whatever material covenant ships are made from, it varies from ship to ship as well, cruisers are purple where as assault carriers appear more grey, etc. imagine how much time and effort it would take (as well as how much paint?!) to paint a 1,500 metre long cruisers?

Some can come away from reading "War and Peace" thinking it a simple adventure story, while others can read the ingredients on a gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.

You can't possibly be basing this off the color of their ships.

Space is so massive, you could take a Covenant cruiser and attach giant flashing neon signs to it and it would be impossible to see with the naked eye from a distance. Ship sensory systems detect foreign bodies far before you can visually see them from a window. This makes the color of a ship completely insignificant, unless it's a stealth ship designed to get exceptionally close to, or attach itself to an enemy ship. In this case it would just be cloaked.

What about Super carrier? 27 kilometers long. Surface area would probably be over 600 square kilometers if you count the Interior. Then there is that small hexagonal shape that is very small. Imagine someone painting that.

So, yes. It's probably the normal color of the material.

I think the exterior alone is ~2,800 km^2

Reread the description of the Combat Harness in H3; Elites want to be seen. Psychological warfare, that's really all it is.

I'm not talking about spaceships, but wraiths and phantoms. From what I know only green elite phantoms can cloak

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

Because Joseph Staten's favorite color is Purple.
