Subject: What was The Maw?

I've been lurking on these boards for while now (but not great while). And every now and then I read about something that seems beloved among older members called "The Maw" (not the level). So for those of us who are newer, could this be explained by someone who does knows about it? From what I can tell, it seems like it would have been awesome.

Stupid parents let their stupid children play games that are rated M when they should be playing Big Birds Spelling Adventures

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

That was the old title of the Halo PC forum on here. Before it was changed to "Halo 1 and 2 forum."

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

Before H2V was released, this board itself was The Maw. Older Halo PC players like myself prefer the name because it's reminiscent of days when this board was an active hub for (generally) intelligent discussion among Halo PC players.

Add me to your friends list if you haven't already. It's a lot more fun to play with people from The Maw and people I know than random noobs.

The gatherings. Oh the gatherings.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

The Maw used to be the place to talk about Halo PC, a mostly perfect port by Gearbox in collaboration with Bungie of the Xbox hit, for Windows.

The Maw was the awesome place this was before Xbox refugees came flocking in toward the crazies waving their "H2V Isn't Broken" flags.

Its what it is now I'd guess as a courtesy of Bungie only. Officially they have no association with the broken Windows version of Halo 2. Then again, neither does Microsoft. It's listed as "supported" but try to get some. You can't.

Most of what appealed to me about this forum is gone, and it looks like most of the Halo PC vets feel similarly. Out with the old, in with the new I guess.

Or, out with the new and in with the old. As in "The Maw" title and banner should be reinstated.

If Bungie had nothing to do with the making of H2V then why was the once titled "The Maw" forum currently titled the "Halo 1&2 for PC" forum? Answer me that Bungie.

I honestly believe that Bungie had a significant amount of influence over the making of H2V.

I can't see how a bunch of people exalting H2V killed it. Was it more that the user population of Halo PC going down over time? It would seem that the veteran users would just ignore them and wait for them to go away. But maybe I'm wrong.

And what do you mean by "Xbox refugees?" They didn't shut down original live service until this year. I must be missing something.

Thanks for the replies and information.
