Subject: Do flood forms use grenades?

You know, when you're having a bad day, you just gotta let yourself go!

The thought just occurred to me after playing Halo: CE. Every time I kill combat forms, they drop grenades. But I have never seen them use them. So why do they carry them in the first place?

"I will show you how a true Prussian officer fights!"

"And i will show you where the iron crosses grow..."

- "Cross of Iron"

There previous hosts were carrying them. Thus when killed they drop them.

"I wort wort wort you."

To give the player grenades. If they didn't carry them, missions that contain all flood, such as the library, would be impossible due to the lack of grenades.

They don't use them because they would probably kill themselves or allies.

Inside another dead body. It's the last place they'll look
A corpse within a corpse.
CORPSEPTION.
Win.

Small arms and starships are familiar territory to the Flood (and thus the Gravemind), as the Forerunner Navy used them back in the Forerunner-Flood War.

Not being as barbaric as humans or the Covenant, I doubt they used grenades.
With these new weapons, the Flood do not know what they are, and thus don't bother using them.

Except for the fact that the flood acquires all of it's hosts memories, so it would know how to use grenades.

Aha! An oversight! Thanks, CTN.

Worried about destroying the target body too much that it cannot become a Flood host, the host knowing the damage a fragmentation grenade does? Wouldn't explain why they bother using plasma weapons then.

This makes the sense, but it doesn't explain the flood who carry rocket launchers.

Maybe they use things like plasma weapons or rockets if they don't have anything better available, but prefer weapons that leave the host bodies relatively intact.

Yeah. Fragmentation grenades work by causing shrapnel to be dispersed around in the area of the target and cause a deafening boom, and plasma grenades probably don't leave the target in one piece either.

Gameplay-wise, this is probably why.

I was thinking more in terms of plasma pistols and rifles, since they boil away large portions of their targets in real life.
A needler also blows targets apart, so isn't that ideal for a Flood form either, because both prevents an Infection form from using the corpse as a host.

I swear that they did, on the last level on Halo 3?

Some can come away from reading "War and Peace" thinking it a simple adventure story, while others can read the ingredients on a gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.

The not wanting to destroy the target host seems like the most realistic answer.

Although it could also be attributed to the simple fact that their hands are so morphed (one having 3 FT long tentacles, the other usually clutching a weapon), they simply cannot easily manipulate grenades and risk just blowing themselves to pieces by arming them.
