"FOR YOUR OWN PROTECTION: Ensure brain is engaged before putting keyboard into gear." --- Anton P Nym
I've been holding this back for a long time, trust me. But when I looked through the Weekly Update thread, I couldn't help myself. Maybe there's a better way to go about expressing this. Maybe I should stay out of it --after all, it's very rare that I come here anyway. But maybe something can be done.
It comes as no surprise to many (unfortunately, also the a minority) of you that the forums here at Bungie.net are in sorry shape to say the least. A rather large number of you seem more concerned with loudly proclaiming what order you've posted in than with actually expressing your thoughts and ideas. Many of you, when you do express yourselves, are often either incredibly rude about it, type such a string of a incoherant drivel that no one bothers to read it anyway, or both. (e.g. "wtf worst update evar. alta is the suxxorz.")
To say it bluntly, a lot of you need to grow the hell up. For a game rated "Mature", you ceratinly wouldn't give the majority of its fanbase the same rating. To summarize, here's a nice list of ways many of you can easily improve:
--Be much more civil and respectful to others. Just because no one knows who you are, that doesn't mean you have a license to act like an ass.
--Develop a sense of humor.
--Take more than 30 seconds to write a post for once. Spell check. For the love of soffish, use punctuation.
--Don't post if you have nothing to say! (I see that happen a lot more often than I should.)
--Take the time to actually read the thread you're posting in. A lot of space is taken up by people simply repeating what other have already said in that thread.
--Enough with the "omg first post". If can't contribute anything useful, don't say anything at all.
I'm sure there's more, and you're welcome to add some if you'd like. Perhaps it's naïve to think people will read this and change for the better, but I suppose one can always hope. I love this community (most aspects of it, at least), and I don't want to see it end up in the toilet. I apologize if I'm stating the obvious, and I apologize if I've started an unwanted thread that will be locked. I just don't want the Bungie community to be yet another scar on the face of the internet.
Thank you for giving me your time, and I apologize again if I've wasted it.
