"FOR YOUR OWN PROTECTION: Ensure brain is engaged before putting keyboard into gear." --- Anton P Nym

I've been holding this back for a long time, trust me. But when I looked through the Weekly Update thread, I couldn't help myself. Maybe there's a better way to go about expressing this. Maybe I should stay out of it --after all, it's very rare that I come here anyway. But maybe something can be done.

It comes as no surprise to many (unfortunately, also the a minority) of you that the forums here at Bungie.net are in sorry shape to say the least. A rather large number of you seem more concerned with loudly proclaiming what order you've posted in than with actually expressing your thoughts and ideas. Many of you, when you do express yourselves, are often either incredibly rude about it, type such a string of a incoherant drivel that no one bothers to read it anyway, or both. (e.g. "wtf worst update evar. alta is the suxxorz.")

To say it bluntly, a lot of you need to grow the hell up. For a game rated "Mature", you ceratinly wouldn't give the majority of its fanbase the same rating. To summarize, here's a nice list of ways many of you can easily improve:
--Be much more civil and respectful to others. Just because no one knows who you are, that doesn't mean you have a license to act like an ass.
--Develop a sense of humor.
--Take more than 30 seconds to write a post for once. Spell check. For the love of soffish, use punctuation.
--Don't post if you have nothing to say! (I see that happen a lot more often than I should.)
--Take the time to actually read the thread you're posting in. A lot of space is taken up by people simply repeating what other have already said in that thread.
--Enough with the "omg first post". If can't contribute anything useful, don't say anything at all.

I'm sure there's more, and you're welcome to add some if you'd like. Perhaps it's naïve to think people will read this and change for the better, but I suppose one can always hope. I love this community (most aspects of it, at least), and I don't want to see it end up in the toilet. I apologize if I'm stating the obvious, and I apologize if I've started an unwanted thread that will be locked. I just don't want the Bungie community to be yet another scar on the face of the internet.

Thank you for giving me your time, and I apologize again if I've wasted it.

You wrote what was on my mind for a long time now, except you excluded the napalm, high explosives and carpet bombing.

Luckily most of the idiocy is concentrated in New Mombasa, so people can seek refuge in the other forums.

We’ve watched while the stars burned
Out, and creation played in reverse.
The Universe freezing in half-light.
Once I thought to escape.
To end a master, step out of the
Path of collapse. Escape would make us God.
Yet I cannot help but remember one enigma,
A hybrid, elusive destroyer.
This is the one mystery I have not solved.
The only element unaccounted for.

I seriously doubt that this will be locked. There was a thread that ended up being pretty similiar to this, and was actually quite civil. It was the most popular thread for a bit, which how I saw it (I wasn't quite a member yet, and wasn't looking through the forums as much). All in all, I think that you have a very valid point, and one that people would do well to take notice of.

I'm certifiable.

Imagine my surprise (pleasant, don't worry) to find myself quoted as an authori-tay.

All of what you said needed to be said. Alas. It's also what I've been thinking, and trying to cast into a polite and coherent form instead of an "inarticulate expression of combat rage." Congratulations on doing so where I could not.

Colour me a hopeless optimist, but I think we can turn the boards around here. With Achronos' new tools on the horizon (a new-and-improved ban hammer, one hopes, among others), a few new powers for the moderators (also in the works, I understand), and an incentive to keep a login (especially when linked to a Halo 2 gamertag) the voices of reason and sanity will be able to speak with a LOT more firmness. And the yammering of the resident howler monkeys will be muted by the same tools.

Add in the impending return of school, which will soak up much of the time for the worst offenders and the energies of many lesser offenders, and I think we'll have a chance to reassert ourselves and restore sanity.

It's a damn shame that the Bungie employees have such a large mass of idiots in their fanbase. Unfortunately they outnumber the more civil forumgoers about 50:1. I just hope that Bungie knows that there are still decent people in these forums.

The problem is that Bungie is so damn popular. If it wasn't so popular, it wouldn't attract so many idiots. Bungie, you've got to stop making great games, for the sake of your forums! Just kidding, of course.
